10 Things I love about myself.

Over the past couple of years, I have blogged my little heart out. It wasn’t until this past January, when I created Curves and Chaos, that I realized just how much I’ve grown as a person. This isn’t a “pat myself on the back” moment either. I honestly believe that this community of amazing and beautiful curvy bloggers, has been exactly what I needed to realize what I love about myself.

  1. I know what true love is.
  2. I know I’m not perfect.
  3. I can be silly any minute of any day and not be embarrassed by it.
  4. I am comfortable in my own skin.
  5. I am stubborn and that’s OK.
  6. I use shopping as a way to relive stress.
  7. Sometimes, I eat dessert before dinner.
  8. I know the value of a hug.
  9. I rely on my faith to get me through this life.
  10. I know I would be nothing without the wonderful people in my life.
What do you love about yourself?

Who is your favorite fashion designer and why?

I don’t have one. I’ve never really been into this designer fashion thing, I don’t own anything from a expensive brand or a designer or anything Haute Couture. With one exception, some things from the Beth Ditto collection. So, if you want to call her a fashion designer, it would be her.

What is the one fashion accessory/item you can’t live without?

Till it’s not tooo hot outside I never go outside without a scarf, I just love them in every shape, size and color. Scarfs keep you warm and kind of cozy and they can bring a wonderful touch of color to a plain outfit….I know just ONE thing is ask, but I think I also would die without oversized bows and colorful headbands for my hair.

If you were allowed to create a beauty product, what would it be and what would you name it?

Hmmm that’s is a difficult question. The first thing I thought about was a deep black eyeliner, that doesn’t smudge, is water resistant and includes a slightly touch of silver glitter in it. But that’s is kind of boring, isn’t it? So I would create a matte intensively pink lipstick which tastes like cherry-vanilla-cupcakes, is fair traded and has a super cute packaging with illustrations from Simone Legno.

If you only had 10 minutes to pack for a fashion extravaganza in your favorite city, what would you bring and where would it be?

It would be London (or maybe Berlin) and I would bring black leggings, cause this is my all-time-favorite-piece and works with everything, my new coral skirt from ASOS, cause it adds a sweet touch of color and has a great quality and looks kind of elegant, a simple black shirt and my Beth Ditto Biker Jacket for the extra coolness. I would also pack a huge hair bow for my hair and my flat iron, some make-up, mascara, pink lipstick and eyeliner AND my Canon, I can’t go without my camera :)

Do you live by a fashion philosophy or quote? What is it?

I don’t understand all these women who say they feel betrayed by fashion. A piece of clothing can’t talk — it can’t tell you that you can’t have it — so really, you’re just telling yourself that. You make yourself the victim.”
Beth Ditto (The Times)

I think that most of it is true, we often feel as the victims of the situation we are in, cause there aren’t many options of nice clothing for us, but actually we ourselves decide what we want to wear or what we don’t.

Beauty Buzz: Vivid Nails

It’s a bright nail polish rainbow up in here!
These are by POP beauty and I can’t seem to get the bright colors out of my head! I think I’ve been wearing dark colors too long. It’s either that-our spring has officially smacked me upside the head!

Which one is your favorite color?

New Feature: B.Chic

Hey curvaliscious ladies!

Let me take a sec to introduce you to a new little feature.

“B.Chic: Fashion and Beauty by Brenda.”

Who is Brenda? She’s my beautiful cousin! I love this chick! After the past couple of weekends in Arizona, I’ve come to grow envious of her fashion styling and make-up skills! I’ve told her to go pro, but she won’t listen to me! And can you believe she’s a proud mommy!

Brenda will send me photos of her outfits and make-up, and I’ll post it here! Check out her reviews on Chick Advisor. (She’s in the process of building her profile.)

Enjoy!

TIME/CNN/People/Fortune 2010 White House Correspondents' Dinner Pre-Party

Chopard Celebrates 150 Years Of Excellence - Arrivals

These lovely ladies have definitely inspired me to get some color back into my wardrobe! Jessica Simpson and Gabourey Sidibe simply glowed at the TIME/CNN/People/Fortune 2010 White House Correspondents’ Dinner Pre-Party. While Christina Ricci made me green with envy at Chopard Celebrates 150 Years Of Excellence party. But, you’re not going to find me running around L.A. in a cocktail dress or fancy gown. Sorry.

I’m going to stay closer to my price range…like Old Navy! One of my favorite stores to shop at. Here are three spring/summer alternatives, all under $40! And if the weather gets chilly, throw on a cardigan or wrap. Simple, easy, and cheap.

Gray and Comfy

Last night, the hubby and I met up with his sister and brother to watch our lovely Los Angeles Lakers. I wasn’t really in the mood to dress up or anything. I was in one of my good ol’ comfy moments. Seems like I’ve been in that kind of mood lately. By the way, I haven’t worn a denim jacket since I was a little girl! I got this gray one at Old Navy for $7!! It has a very worn and thrifted feel to it. I wish it was more fitted, I felt like my waist got lost in this outfit. And yes…the Lakers did win!!

Jeans, cardigans, and I, we go way back. There’s nothing I love more than throwing on a comfy pair of jeans, a tank top, and a simple black cardigan. They make me a happy chica! Here are two casual outfits where accessories and shoes can make a difference. Outfit #1 was for a dinner and I wore outfit #2 to the Sassy City Chicks event. I am obsessed with the gladiator sandals. Love them!!

#1
Jeans: Paper Denim & Cloth
Cardigan: Target
Tank Top: Shade Clothing
Shoes: Nine West
Necklace: Forever 21

#2
Jeans: Old Navy
Cardigan: Target
Tank Top: Shade Clothing
Sandals: Nine West

Summer Trends: Gladiator Sandals

Sandal Season is here!! Well, it is in L.A. Sorry, I don’t mean to brag. Some of you will get yours soon! Then you’ll want to try this trend, if you haven’t already.

This is another shoe style that I didn’t really love at first. That is until I tried it on and the gladiator sandal captured my heart. These go great with maxi dresses, capris, shorts, skirts, and even skinny jeans. If you have a wide foot, don’t worry…Torrid has us covered!

I just want to thank all those hunky Roman gladiators for bringing us this trend!

My golden rule: Make sure you try them on before buying them! I know this sounds like common sense, but the width can be tricky in these.

Need to make a statement?

Do you need to make a fashion statement? Why not grab a statement necklace! Make a boring outfit pop with a piece of jewelry that will wow your friends! I’m a sucker for a necklace that stands out! I love ALL of these! I think it’s time to go shopping!!

New Glamour Cover!!

The new cover for Glamour magazine’s June 2010 issue is out! You’ve heard the hype over this issue! It features three beautiful women: Crystal Renn, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Brooklyn Decker.

They are wearing the summer’s hottest swimsuits and share their “confindence-boosting tips.”

I can’t wait to get my issue! I still haven’t found my swimsuit, maybe this will help me. {fingers crossed}

“Women will accept themselves when they see more [body] types…. This is the new normal.” -Crystal Renn

A gorgeous cover indeed. Some say Crystal is losing her curves? Does it really matter?

What do you think of the lovely ladies?

An Eye on Faith 21

Hey there!

I just got back from a weekend road trip, not a happy one, but I did get out of L.A. I had the chance to meet up with a lot of family that I haven’t seen in a long time. It was a pretty exhausting weekend. Let me tell you…I was very happy to be back home. I love me some City of Angels!! And just to update you, I am still on a budget…kinda. Lol. I did do some shopping last week. I spent my birthday gift cards…Sorry I didn’t do a post about the stuff I bought. But, I am in the mood to get a little shopping done at Forever 21. Here is what I have my eye on:

Who is your favorite fashion designer and why?

My favorite fashion designer is Phillip Lim. I’ll be honest in that I don’t really follow designers all that much (mostly because I don’t have the budget to buy their clothes), but I do flip through various fashion magazines each month, and every time I like a piece and I look in the sidebar to see who it’s made by, it’s Phillip Lim. I think he just has a great mixture of amazing cuts, classic styles, sleekness and a little big of edge.

What is the one fashion accessory/item you can’t live without?

I can not live without shoes! I’m like the sister in “In My Sister’s Shoes” that buys shoes and doesn’t wear them a lot, but keeps them in her closet “just in case.” Well, I have that problem. :)

If you were allowed to create a beauty product, what would it be and what would you name it?

Good question.. I never thought about creating a beauty product, mostly because I can find whatever I want out there pretty much. I guess sometimes though, I can’t find the exact nail color I’m looking for, so it would be interesting to design colors for a nail polish company and develop a polish that tries SUPER fast!

If you only had 10 minutes to pack for a fashion extravaganza in your favorite city, what would you bring and where would it be?

light weight, cotton knee length cami dress, with a pair of simple sandals or flats, a cardigan or light weight linen jacket (for if it gets cold), and a pair of sunglasses for Seneca Lake near Watkins, Glen NY.

Do you live by a fashion philosophy or quote? What is it?

Don’t be afraid to try something new and different. It’s always great to have a distinct style, but I find the most fun in trying something new for a day. Fashion is a great way to express yourself because sometimes you feel like a little bit country, and sometimes you feel a little bit rock n’ roll. Fashion is the easiest way to try on a new you!
