Rock Rihanna’s Pistol Pendant

I was browsing my favorite celeb site JustJared.com, when I came across this image of Rihanna wearing the Campise Gun Necklace a Ron Herman exclusive ($648).

I can’t say I’m a regular at Fred Segal, like Miss Rihanna here, but I do love that necklace. So of course, I found you all a few alternatives. (Click on the pendant for shopping info)

What do you think? Which necklace would you rock? I love the first one…of course! It’s by Betsey Johnson.

COVERGIRL 50th Anniversary Red Carpet Looks!

This year, beauty giant COVERGIRL cosmetics commemorates its 50th anniversary and that every woman is a COVERGIRL!

Last night, I had the extreme honor of being an honorary COVERGIRL by attending an exclusive “Primping Party” and Hollywood Red Carpet party! Don’t worry my full recap is coming soon! But, I did want to share the looks that COVERGIRL’s Queen Latifah, Taylor Swift, Drew Barrymore, Ellen DeGeneres, and Dania Ramirez were rocking on the red carpet as told by their makeup artists for the night.

Queen Latifah  - by Celebrity Makeup Artist D’Andre Michael

Queen Latifah’s wardrobe for the show varied between Black, Hot Pink and Turquoise Blue so I wanted to give here a look that accentuated the eyes.

I started by using COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Compact Foundation<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/foundation-makeup/queen-natural-hue-compact-foundation> in Golden Honey and set it with COVEGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Minerals Pressed Powder<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/powder-makeup/queen-natural-hue-pressed-powder> in Brown Bronze 1.

For the eyes, I started by applying COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/eyeshadow/smoky-shadow-blast> in Onyx Smoke (black color) on eyelid and under the lower lash.  Doing this allows you to blend your darker shadows into a softer color.  I then used COVERGIRL Queen Collection 1-Kit Eyeshadow<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/eyeshadow/queen-1-kit> in Black Tie over the Onyx Smoke and blended it above the crease of the lid.  I did this to intensify the color and set the Smoky ShadowBlast. I lined the inner bottom eyelid for depth with COVERGIRL LiquiLineBlast<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/eye-liner/liquilineblast-eyeliner> in Black Fire.  To finish the eyes I applied 2 coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume Waterproof Mascara<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/mascara/lashblast-volume-blasting-mascara> in Very Black.

For Queen’s lips, I offset the smokey eye with a lavender lip gloss. Try COVERGIRL ShineBlast<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/lip-makeup/lipgloss/shineblast-lipgloss> in Dazzle. By doing lighter colored lips, this allows her eyes would stand out.

I accentuated Queen’s cheeks with a light powder blush to add a hint of color and tone.  To complete Queen’s overall look I brushed COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/bronzer/queen-natural-hue-bronzer> in Brown Bronze for a soft and subtle glow.

Taylor Swift- by Celebrity Makeup Artist Lorrie Turk

We decided to go for a fresh, pretty beauty look for Taylor for the People’s Choice Awards and the COVERGIRL 50th Anniversary Party. She opted for a slight departure from her signature bright red lip for more of an orangy-red, which added a pop of color to complement the light color of the dress.

I prepped her face with COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Serum Primer<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/foundation-makeup/simply-ageless-serum-primer> and applied COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Silk Foundation<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/foundation-makeup/natureluxe-foundation> in Alabaster with a brush and blended with a sponge. You can also apply the foundation by mixing it in your palm and applying directly with your fingers. The foundation gave Taylor a polished finish.

On her eyes, I used COVERGIRL LiquiLineBlast<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/eye-liner/liquilineblast-eyeliner> in Black Fire to create the minimal winged liner. We didn’t want to make the eyes too dramatic since we were focusing on a bright lip. I finished the eyes by curling her lashes and applying COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/mascara/lashblast-volume-blasting-mascara> in Black.

Taylor’s lips were the standout of the look. I first used COVERGIRL Lip Perfection Lip Liner<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/lip-makeup/lip-liner/lip-perfection-lip-liner> in Passion to line her lips and also help the color stay through the night. I then finished the lip by applying COVERGIRL Lip Perfection Lipstick<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/lip-makeup/lip-color/lip-perfection-lipstick> in Flame.

Drew Barrymore- by Celebrity Makeup Artist Debra Ferullo

Inspiration: It all started obviously with her dress. It was a gorgeous orange color that reminded us of the French Riviera so I wanted to create a fresh, dewy look.

On Drew’s skin I created a luxurious polished finish with COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Silk Foundation<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/foundation-makeup/natureluxe-foundation> and then warmed up her cheeks by applying COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/blush/simply-ageless-sculpting-blush> in Lush Berry for a natural sun-kissed glow.

For her eyes, we wanted to create some depth, but nothing too strong, so I created a wash of bronzes and plums using COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/eyeshadow/smoky-shadow-blast> in Bronze Fire all the way up to the browbone and under the eye and COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/eyeshadow/smoky-shadow-blast> in Purple Plume. I then lined her eyes with COVERGIRL LiquiLineBlast<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/eye-liner/liquilineblast-eyeliner> in Brown Blaze and smudged it with my finger to create depth but without harsh lines. I finished the eyes with 2 coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/mascara/lashblast-volume-blasting-mascara> Mascara.

Lastly I applied COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Gloss Balm<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/lip-makeup/lipgloss/natureluxe-gloss-balm> in Anemone on her lips to complete the fresh look.

Ellen Degeneres- by Celebrity Makeup Artist Heather Currie

Since this party was representing 50 years of COVERGIRL, I wanted Ellen to have a classic, clean, and beautiful look. At the same time, because she has such vibrant eyes, I wanted to do something sexy and smoky to add a little glamour.

I began the process by prepping her skin with COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Serum Primer<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/foundation-makeup/simply-ageless-serum-primer>. I like to use the primer because it hydrates the skin and helps the foundation to last longer.
Next I used the COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Foundation<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/foundation-makeup/simply-ageless-foundation>. Ellen is a little tan right now so I used the foundation in Warm Beige, but normally I use Buff Beige on her.

I like to use the sponge that comes with the foundation, and I prefer to use it wet. Just make sure that all of the excess water is squeezed out of the sponge.
After the foundation I applied the Simply Ageless Concealer<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/concealer/simply-ageless-concealer> in light/medium. I used a brush, but it works just as well to apply with fingers. I basically put a little concealer under her eyes, and a tiny bit in the T-zone area to reduce any redness.

For Ellen’s eyes, I started by lining the eye with COVERGIRL LiquiLineBlast<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/eye-liner/liquilineblast-eyeliner> in Brown Blaze. I used my finger and smudged the line so that it wouldn’t appear hard. I then used an eye shadow brush and continued to smudge the liner area with COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/eyeshadow/eye-enhancers-1-kit> in Brown Smolder. I wanted Ellen’s look to seem more edgy so I added some of the COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/eyeshadow/smoky-shadow-blast> in Silver Sky on top of the shadow. Adding the metallic cream gave the eye a bit more dimension and a bit of glamorous sheen. I then added a very thin line of the COVERGIRL Line Exact<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/eye-liner/line-exact-liquid-liner> in Brown. I did this to give the lash line more intensity. The last step for the eyes was to curl her lashes and I applied two coats of the COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/mascara/lashblast-volume-blasting-mascara> Mascara. Since Ellen is blonde, and typically prefers a more natural look, I opted for brown mascara.

To give Ellen’s skin that fresh glow I added some of the COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/blush/simply-ageless-sculpting-blush> in Royal Plum to the apple area of her cheeks. I prefer to use a synthetic brush for this, but the fingers can work just as well.

I then used a bit of the COVERGIRL Clean Pressed Powder for Normal Skin<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/powder-makeup/clean-pressed-powder-normal-skin> in Natural Beige, and just swept it lightly over her skin. Because I wanted her skin to appear natural, I focused the powder more in the T-zone area. We want the shine to appear more on the cheekbones and on the sides of her face.

Because the eyes were more of a focus for this look, I wanted to keep the lips more natural and subdued. I used COVERGIRL Lip Perfection Lip Liner<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/lip-makeup/lip-liner/lip-perfection-lip-liner> in Seduce, but I didn’t line the lip with it, I lightly applied the pencil to most of the lip area. I like to do that because it holds the gloss and lip color longer, and gives it a primer affect. Then I applied COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Gloss Balm<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/lip-makeup/lipgloss/natureluxe-gloss-balm> in Clove to add a light luxurious sheer color and finish the look.

Dania Ramirez- by Celebrity Makeup Artist Matthew VanLeeuwen

Dania’s makeup inspiration was a twist on a classic beauty look. She called me earlier that day to tell me she was in love with her dress and thought she wanted a red lip, which I totally agreed with once I saw her outfit.  We stuck with a fairly clean, pale lid and sculpted brows, but I also wanted to add a little gold to the eyes in honor of COVERGIRL’s 50th Anniversary.

To start, I prepped the skin with a light moisturizer and  then applied  COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Serum Primer<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/foundation-makeup/simply-ageless-serum-primer>. I then used COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Foundation<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/foundation-makeup/natureluxe-foundation> in Nutmeg which gave her perfectly polished skin with a luxurious finish.
On her eyes, I applied COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/eyeshadow/smoky-shadow-blast> in Citrus Flair, using the green color on the lid and the bronze color in the crease and then darkened the outside of the eye with COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/eyeshadow/smoky-shadow-blast> in Bronze Fire. I created a minimal line to define the eye with COVERGIRL LiquiLineBlast<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/eye-liner/liquilineblast-eyeliner> in Black Fire and finished with a few coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Length<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/eye-makeup/mascara/lashblast-length-mascara> Mascara in Black.
On her lips, I created a strong, glamorous red lip with COVERGIRL Lip Perfection Lipstick<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/lip-makeup/lip-color/lip-perfection-lipstick> in Hot.
Lastly, I applied COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Blush<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/blush/simply-ageless-sculpting-blush> in Plush Peach on the apples of her cheeks to balance out the look. It is really important to create a natural looking balance on the skin especially when working with a bright red lip.  I finished it off by setting her face with a light dusting of COVERGIRL Clean Pressed<http://www.covergirl.com/beauty-products/face-makeup/powder-makeup/clean-pressed-powder-normal-skin> Powder in Tawny.

Curvy Girl Travels: Ringing in 2011 by “The Bay”

I’ve always lived by the idea of how you ring in the new year will dictate what the upcoming year will be like for you. So, of course I make sure I’m traveling or with family and friends. This year I headed up to San Francisco with my hubby, little brother, cousins, and my best friends. I love that city and the whole “living by the bay” atmosphere. I am also a huge fan of the shopping in the downtown area. To die for! Can I just say the Macy’s in Union Square has the largest “Woman’s” department I’ve seen in a Macy’s! Definitely, check it out. Bag on a Budget?

2011 has started off with a bang for me! How about you? We are five days into this new year and I’m wondering if you’ve stuck to any of your resolutions. Is saving money one of them? I’m with you on that one; that’s why this year will be all about shopping on a budget. I started that resolution a little early as I planned my New Year’s Eve trip to San Francisco. I found this amazing handbag over at Nordstrom for $28! I’m amazed by it’s quality and style! If you’re searching for a “Bag on a Budget,” take a look at these below. They are all under $40!

A quick note…

Tomorrow is New Years Eve and I am going on a mini-vacation. So, I will be M.I.A. For a few days. I am sorry to report I don’t have a best of 2010 anything, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care. I think 2010 was very awesome! And I am definitely looking forward to what 2011 has to offer. I want to thank all of you for reading Curves and Chaos and always leaving me feedback. I hope to bring you a few changes to the blog in the new year and more giveaways!

I hope you have a fashionable and safe New Years Eve!

Beauty Review: Pantene’s Restore Beautiful Lengths ‘Smoothing Balm’

We’re all looking for that one product that will make our hair not only stronger, but will also give it that brilliant shine. And if there’s one thing we all deal with, it’s the havoc that our daily styling routines do to our hair. Whether it’s blow drying, curling, or flat ironing; we do a lot of heat related damage to our luscious locks.

I have always been a Pantene user, it always provided great results at a reasonable price. One day, I was sitting in a chair at the P&G Home at the BlogHer 2010 conference, getting a mini-makeover and I asked the stylist what she would recommend for smoothing my hair. She recommended a product from the Restore Beautiful Lengths collection from Pantene. Months later I purchased the ‘Smoothing Balm.’

Product Info: Pantene Restore Beautiful Lengths ‘Smoothing Balm’ $4.99 at Drugstore.com.

Product Claim: Pantene Pro-V Restore Beautiful Lengths Smoothing Balm helps resist breakage so you can grow hair longer* and helps keep fly-aways and frizz under control. It leaves you with smooth, manageable hair after you style it.

What I found out: The first thing I noticed about this product was the smell. It’s a clean and fresh scent. The balm is thick and non-greasy or sticky. After a regular blow dry your hair feels like it has a smooth protective coat on it, without being too stiff. I did find that it doesn’t take away all the frizz, but that’s probably because I didn’t use the diffuser that was recommended. And I love the shine it adds to my hair.

Would I buy it again? Yes, definitely. This is something I can see me using for a very long time. I just have to get my hands on a diffuser and see if that helps with the leftover frizz.

**I was NOT compensated for this review. The above is my true and honest opinion.

The Shopping Diaries: Last Minute Shopper

With only three days left until New Year’s Eve, I’ve been on the hunt for something to wear. I’ve purchased and returned like a mad woman. I’ve had a dress for a while that I was going to wear, but I tried it on the other night and it just didn’t look right. So, I headed out Sunday looking for an outfit. Isn’t that the story of my shopping life? I’m a last minute shopper.

Is being a last minute shopper smart? Yes and no.

Yes, because you’re forced to find something. No, because your choices are limited and you’re forced to find something. Now, try last minute shopping at malls that aren’t very curve-friendly and already ransacked. Over the last few days I’ve been looking over barely there racks. And when I did see something I like, they didn’t have it in my size. Ohhhhh…the drama.

But, low-and-behold I walk into Forever 21 today. It was the last store, before I gave up for the day. I’ve always been a fan of them, I just don’t know why I waited so long to look there! Of course, I fall for the first dress I see; the One Shoulder Glam Dress (below).

It sparkles more in person, I can’t wait to wear it! Now, I just have to find accessories for it. The shopping is never done!! I am thinking about wearing black opaque tights and black booties. Or should I go with black sequin pumps?

The Little Black Shoe Inspiration

Before I head out shopping, I need a little inspiration. That means…shoooooooes! Yay! I am on the hunt for a pair of black shoes for New Year’s Eve. Aren’t the first pair, Steve Madden’s btw, divine? Love them! Is there anything you like here?

What I Wore: Christmas Weekend

Happy Holidays!! I hope you all had a fantabulous Christmas! I had an amazing time with my family.

Christmas Eve was spent with the in-laws. This is the outfit I wore (left). I wore this Lane Bryant tunic, which is on sale now FYI. An H&M scarf , Bali leggings, Lane Bryant bracelets & earrings, and Kensie shoes.I wanted to keep it comfy and I’ve been dying to wear these shoes again.

I wore my amazing Sejour Silky Jacket (below) courtesy of Nordstrom on Christmas day, but sadly no photos. But, I can tell you I love it! I paired it with Just My Size Leggings and Madden Girl boots. It was a day filled with love and food. Isn’t that what the holidays are all about?

And you know I had to get to the after Christmas sales. I grabbed a few things from Macy’s and H&M, but I think they are going back. Don’t you just hate when that happens. That’s what I get for not trying things on. The shopping center I went to wasn’t very curve-friendly either. Blah!

Today, I’m going to head out and look for a few new pieces for my New Year’s Eve outfit. Last night I tried on my planned outfit and it did not look cute! Time for Plan B!  I’ll keep you updated.

Behind the Scenes of Torrid’s Spring Collection

Maybe we should call it Video Thursday around here! Here’s one from Torrid featuring my girl Denise Bidot. She’s super sweet and beautiful! Love this girl. You should definitely check her out. It’s a behind the scenes look at their spring collection. Which look is your fave?

I am also throwing Torrid’s video featuring the 2010 House of Dreams winners.
