Editor’s Note: All information in this post is from The Susan G. Komen for the Cure web site. I am not a doctor, I am only passing on information from a credible site. Please seek a medical professional if you have any questions or concerns.
According to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure web site, Breast cancer is a type of cancer where cells in the breast divide and grow without normal control. Between 50 and 75 percent of breast cancers begin in the ducts, 10 to 15 percent begin in the lobules and a few begin in other breast tissues.
Tumors in the breast tend to grow slowly. By the time a lump is large enough to feel, it may have been growing for as long as 10 years. However, some tumors are aggressive and grow much more rapidly.
It is important to understand the difference between invasive breast cancer and non-invasive breast cancer, called ductal carcinoma in situ (kar-sin-O-ma in SY-too). Click here to find out more.
Breast self-exam (BSE) is not recommended as a screening tool for breast cancer. However, Susan G. Komen for the Cure® recommends that you become familiar with the way your breasts normally look and feel. Knowing what is normal for you may help you see or feel changes in your breast.
If you notice any of the warning signs of breast cancer listed below, see your health care provider.
- Lump, hard knot or thickening inside the breast or underarm area
- Swelling, warmth, redness or darkening of the breast
- Change in the size or shape of the breast
- Dimpling or puckering of the skin
- Itchy, scaly sore or rash on the nipple
- Pulling in of your nipple or other parts of the breast
- Nipple discharge that starts suddenly
- New pain in one spot that doesn’t go away
If you feel a lump in your breast, do not panic. Most lumps are not breast cancer, but something less serious, like a benign breast condition (more on benign breast conditions).
Some lumps will go away on their own. Often, they are related to your menstrual period and will go away by the end of your cycle. However, it is best to see your health care provider just to be sure.
Please remember this post is not to scare you, but make you more aware of this disease. Let’s be vigilant and more aware of our health. Early detection and screening is key!!
I can’t believe I’ve been blogging for 3 years now. It really seems just like yesterday. Back then, I would have never imagined to be where I am today.
I’m not at all on blogger celebrity status. In fact, probably not even close. LOL. But, I do love what I do and what I get to experience. I consider myself very blessed.
Last week, I was invited to attend Latina Magazine’s 15th anniversary party by COVERGIRL. I’ve been reading this magazine since it was first published. So, this was very exciting for me.
I kind of waited until the last minute to buy my dress. I wanted a very simple LBD. I found this dress over at Torrid and paired it jewlery from Aldo and shoes from Torrid. My makeup is all COVERGIRL, especially the lipstick. It’s Ruby Slipper from the Queen Collection.
I just happened to get my make-up touched up by Artemis, the Beauty Editor of Plus Model Magazine. She’s super sweet and couldn’t believe this was our first time meeting in person. I even got to hang out with Cid from CidStyleFile.com. Love that chick!
I had an amazing night…check out a few pictures below.
Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post. I did receive complimentary admission to this event and a gift bag. The above is my true and honest opinion.
What do we know about pleats? We know it’s defined as a “type of fold formed by doubling fabric back upon itself and securing it in place.” But, did you know there are 11 types of pleats? I didn’t either!
All I do know, is that when I went shopping the other day, I saw a lot of pleated pieces. Oh, and I’m not a big fan of ironing pleats. Too tedious! But, I do love the way they look. I’m kind of eyeing the burgundy Evans pleated maxi skirt (#11).
So, what do you think?
Are pleats the way to go?

As part of Curves and Chaos going “PINK” for Breast Cancer Awareness month, I’m going to featuring brands and events that benefit the cause.
I actually got the email from Forever 21 last week about their support for the fight against breast cancer.
They have a special Pink is Courage collection, they will donate 10% of each item sold from that collection to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
I went in on Friday and bought the Strength French Terry Pullover $19.80. I can’t wait to wear it and show my support.
I love that they are offering these items in different sizes, especially in their plus collection. The entire Pink is Courage collection is priced $4.80-$29.80. I’m sad, I didn’t see that umbrella when I was in the store. Guess, I have to go back and get it.
What will you buy?
Curves and Chaos is going pink in October, all to support Breast Cancer Awareness month.
I hope to honor the memory of my aunt and all of those affected by this horrible disease.
I have a lot planned throughout the entire month. You’ll learn essential health information and tips, what you can do to help, and how you can support the fashion brands out there that are helping the cause themselves. I’ll even have a giveaway each week!
My main goal is help educate you, and of course bring awareness.
This post brought to you by TRESemmé. All opinions are 100% mine.
The alarm goes off. You hit snooze. Alarm goes off again.
It’s one of “those” mornings. You know, the kind where you don’t want to get up and out of bed. You just want 30 more minutes of sleep. Don’t get me started on how long it takes to style our hair!
If you feel like skipping a day of shampooing, then you might want to try TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoo.
It’s a unique formula created to absorb excess oil and remove odors. It rejuvenates hair without a single drop of water and will bring some life your unwashed tresses. You’ll love the bursts of citrus extracts in their full line of products.
Check out the line below.
Strengthening Dry Shampoo: The formula, with B12 vitamins and keratin, helps strengthen your hair and leaves it full of body.
Volumizing Dry Shampoo: This formula is made with mineral clay and citrus. It removes oil while injecting your hair with salon-gorgeous volume.
Smoothing Dry Shampoos: Here you get Vitamin H and Silk Proteins that refreshes your straight hair style by removing excess oil, impurities and odor.
Moisturizing Waterless Foam Shampoo: This formula has Witch Hazel, Citrus, and Aloe Vera. It also refreshes your hair by removing excess oil, impurities, and odor while moisturizing your hair.
Not sure how to use it? Here are some do’s and dont’s.
- Do shake vigorously before use and in between spray bursts for best results.
- Do lift sections of dry hair and spray lightly at roots.
- Do spray in short burst, holding 8-12 inches from head.
- Don’t spray like hair spray (all over and continuously)
- Do leave in for 1-2 minutes.
- Do use fingertips or abursh to distribute product evenly.

If you take a second to visit the ASOS Curve web site, you’ll notice the 19 LBD’s they are currently selling. I know we all love a little black dress and they’re definitely offering your lots of options here. I’m not even sure which one I’d pick. Although, the one with the white corsage really sticks out. It’s so chic! It’s like LBD heaven up in here!!
Everyone’s favorite “go to” shopping site, Amazon.com has created MYHABIT. It’s one of the latest “membership-only” fashion sale sites.
And they just recently launched REAL by MYHABIT. It’s a series of online sale events offering women, sizes 14-24, the best designer and contemporary brands at up to 60% off.
The sales will last up to 4 days, unless they sell out (which can happen!). Today’s sales include dresses from Taylor Dress, denim from CJ by Cookie Johnson (some of my favorites are already sold out), and Z from Zenobia.
I’m loving the red blazer by Z from Zenobia. It’s originally $1,350 and is now $269!!
What I love most, besides the great prices, is that the site offers instant membership, free four day shipping, free returns (US orders only), and a flate rate $15 for priority international shipping.
The site is cool too with it’s 360-degree video of the clothes. That comes in handy, when you’re curious to see how an item fits.
So, check out REAL by MYHABIT and let me know what you think.
