My Closet: Lazy Sunday

It’s a great start to a lazy Sunday. I wanted to post this outfit before I got too comfy.

I bought this vintage top from Kori of Buxom Vintage for $8. You should def check her out, she specializes in plus size vintage. She was a vendor at the Curvy Revolution.

I’d love to turn this into some sort of crop top. But the embroidery around the neck, sleeves and trim is really unique. So, I’d hate to lose any of it. Should I just leave it the way it is?

The denim straight leg capri ($20) is courtesy of Just My Size. I couldn’t find them online, but I know they are a piece from their spring looks. There’s a little bit of stretch in the material, which makes them the perfect capri for my lazy day.

What do you wear on your lazy days?

What to Wear: The Corporate Interview

Many of you have come to me asking what to wear to a job interview. I will say, it really depends on the job. For a corporate position, you might not want to mess around. You should dress as professional as possible- without losing your personal style. Unfortunately, many businesses do rely on their employees appearance. That means they might want you to look “put together” for their clients. Here’s a little something I whipped up.

If I was interviewing for a corporate position, this is something I would wear. All of the basics are here, but with my personal style in mind. Of course you have the basic sheath dress and black blazer. Try adding something like a floral pin to add a sweet touch, while staying minimal with the jewelery. Personally, I always want to stay basic with black pumps and a briefcase style bag. And you know I need a pretty pink case for my iPad.
Job interviews can be nerve racking, but at least you won’t have to worry about what you’re wearing. Remember, never lose your personal style and wear what makes you…you!

SimplyBe has your Vacation Essentials

You can always find some of the best plus size womenswear from SimplyBe. Last year I did a review on a few of their pieces and I was very impressed with not only the quality, but the fit. Let’s just say I visit their site weekly.

Today I clicked on their site and I immediately wanted to bust out the sunscreen and go somewhere tropical. Their Vacation Shop is up and running and I can’t start planning my next vacation fast enough.

They have the basics needed like swimsuits, tank tops, maxi dresses, shorts, and even some sexy lingerie to spice things up while you rest in your cabana.

This Beach2beach swimsuit (right) caught my eye immediately. It even comes in two different lengths, for the taller ladies. Their sizes range from 10-28, which gives us curvy ladies quite a range of fashion to choose from.

I think my vacation essentials should consist of the Pack Of 3 Camisoles, Joe Browns Summer Days Dress, Joe Browns Dip Dye Tunic, and these Joe Browns Turnup Shorts (all below).

What are your vacation essentials?

Prints Charming

I’m in the mood for shoes! Inspired by this amazing, yummy, and delish shoe, the Starlet Stiletto from Alloy ($39.90), I had to go in search of the printed shoe.

And I’m not just talking about floral prints. I’ve also included stripes and the ikat/tripal prints. I can just imagine wearing a white sundress with a bold printed shoe. Dreamy…oops, back to the shoes.

Prints are seen in all shapes and forms this spring. Whether it’s on the upper part of the shoe, only in the straps, or even in the heel; prints have definitely grabbed my attention.

It’s not like I need anymore shoes, buuuuuut if I did…I would definitely check out all the ones I picked below.

Have you decided which print you’ll wear this spring?

My Closet: Buxom Boutique Dress

Today, I attended a luncheon at the gorgeous Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. I always feel so classy when I enter that place. That’s why I decided to wear this amazing Asymmetrical Black Dress courtesy of Julia from Buxom Boutique. I paired it with my Madden Girl pumps, black tights, gold hoop earrings, and a gold statement ring.

The asymmetrical neck gives this “little black dress” an edge, but with a 1950’s sillouette. The knee length hem is breath of fresh air in today’s world of mini’s. I wear a size 16/18 in dresses and this dress is a 3X. I really think someone in a size 22 could wear this because of the stretch in the material. It actually matched a blazer I had in my closet, you know just in case I had to cover up at the luncheon.

What I love about this dress is how easy it can go from business to casual. You could wear it to work, then change a few pieces around for an event or night out. I changed my earrings, added a belt, and my silver jeweled sandals. I know I am going to get a lot of use out of this dress. Thanks Julia!

Designer News: Silvia Tcherassi for Payless

Columbian designer, Silvia Tcherassi, was announced today as the latest designer to collaborate with Payless ShoeSource. I don’t about you but I love these designer collaborations!

According to Payless, the two-year collaboration named Silvia Tcherassi for Payless, Tcherassi will design two semi-annual collections including shoes and handbags for the Spring and Fall seasons.

Here’s a look at her first design (right). I am kinda drooling over this shoe!!

The designs will be priced from $40-$70 an item, will “reflect a strong international and Latin influence inspired by the urban woman with a contemporary, passionate and vibrant sense of style.” The initial collection will be available in May.

I am thrilled to be working with Payless on my first-ever shoe label. This is a great opportunity to create shoes and handbags to complement my existing fashion collections and for the Spring/Summer season this includes many important silhouettes like wedges, flats, strappy heels and thongs sandals with key trend details like bright color-blocking, unique mesh uppers and satin ribbon details and ties,” commented Tcherassi. “It was inspiring to work with the Payless footwear design team in NYC — together we created a sophisticated, contemporary collection that features the latest trends and high-end style, but at an affordable price starting at $40 a pair.

City Chic Denim Review

The denim curiosity started in Las Vegas. From the moment I saw model Fluvia Lacerda in a pair of City Chic jeans, I knew I had to try them out. She has amazing curves and these jeans hugged her in all the right places.

And since skinny jeans are all the rage, I wanted to do something a little different by picking the Lace Up Wide Leg Jean ($58). I think this my might be my new favorite cut.

I do have a high waist, so low rise jeans are not for me. For some reason, I thought these were higher waisted, but they actually sit a little bit below my belly button. That’s not ideal for my shape.

One of my favorite features is the dark wash of the jeans. This makes it so versatile and easy to dress up. Because of the stretch in the denim, these jeans are also very comfortable.

The length of the jean was perfect for my height (5’6), while wearing my new heels. But, I do warn that the hem will probably drag with a flat shoe. I haven’t had a chance to wash them yet, so I can tell you if they shrink or not. When I do, I’ll post that as an update here and on my Facebook page.

Take a look at the pics below. This is after wearing them all day, so they keep their shape. They didn’t start to sag, which a problem I normally have with jeans. Because of this one pair, I am very interested in trying another cut. Hmmm…skinny or bootcut?

Do you own a pair of City Chic jeans? Do you love or hate them?

Lounging into Spring with Linen

We are officially one week into the spring season. Even though it doesn’t seem like it in some parts of the country. The weather has been crazy! It’s supposed to be in the 70’s this week here in L.A.

One of my favorite things about spring is being able to layer. Because the weather is still mild and with today’s unpredictable weather, you have to be ready. It’s always changing.

That’s why during this time of the year, you start seeing a lot of linen peices. A linen blazer is great to use over a tank top or a spring dress, because it’s a lighter material than the wool or heavy cotton pieces we were wearing. Not to mention it’s pretty comfy. This Lane Bryant Asymmetric linen jacket ($59.95) is so cute!

Last year, I found a great linen blazer while out thrifting. Yay me! They’re so easy to find at your local thrift store, if you don’t feel like spending a lot. If you want yours brand spanking new-I found you a few below.

Will any linen pieces make into your spring outfits?

The Shopping Diaries: “Me” Time

With the hubby being out of town, I had the chance to do something I haven’t done in a very long time. I had shopping “me” time. Not just regular old shopping time, but time well spent.

I spent hours just walking around the mall. Taking in fashion and a few bargains. I wasn’t in a rush, I didn’t have to be anywhere. I just took my time. It was awesome. I highly recommend it.

We all get our inspiration, one way or another. This is how I get inspired. I almost bought this amazing Rachel Roy dress from Macy’s, but I didn’t want it to be an impulse buy. Now, I’m sitting here going back and forth to the web site wishing I had bought it. Why does that always happen?

I did pick up some jewelery from Francesca’s Collections, two books from Urban Outfitters ($2.90 each!!), and a cardigan from Nordstrom. What can I say…it was a  productive day.

And because of L.A.’s cloudy and chilly weather I wore the most comfy outfit I could put together:
