Don’t you just love social media? I know I do. Say what you want about it, but it’s connecting us in ways we never thought was possible. Especially, on Facebook! Take a look at these three recent emails that landed in my inbox. All you have to do is “Like” them on Facebook.
Fashion to Figure will donate $1 for every “Like” they get on FB to help the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
On April 9th, I had the honor of attending the opening reception of the About Face: A New Perspective on Photographic Portraiture exhibit, here in Los Angeles. As part of the Miracle Mile Art Walk, the exhibit featured the work of World Renowned Fashion Photographer Wahb Mabkhout. As one of the nine artists, Wahb decided to photograph eight plus size models. I’m not going to go into too much detail here, but I will tell you it was beautiful and inspiring. You can read the full recap in the May 2011 issue of Plus Model Magazine on May 1st. I just wanted to give you a sneak peek with a few photos I took.
I’m going to make this short and sweet. If you’re looking for a natural looking blush, then you need to try JAFRA’s Powder Blush ($14.50). Seriously, I’ve tried a few blushes here and there, but this one is different.
I use the color “Perfect Glow” and I can’t help but think it’s the perfect shade for my medium skin tone. Not to sound too cliche, but it’s not too dark, not too light…It’s just right.
This Powder Blush is part of JAFRA’s revamped Color Line. There are 11 different shades and it’s jet-milled, so the blush goes on silky smooth. It’s formulated with Vitamins E and C, which they say will condition and protect your skin. And it absorbs oil, so you will get a longer wear out of it. This makes me love it even more! If you haven’t tried any of the products from the Color Line, you’re kinda missing out. They haven’t been around for over 50 years for nothing.
Have you tried any of JAFRA’s products? Which one is your favorite?
Disclaimer: I was not paid for this review. Although the item was gifted, the above is my true and honest opinion.
Aren’t we in love with members-only (a.k.a flash) shopping sites? I know I am! And I definitely love the fact that a lot of them are finally catching on-curvy ladies love shopping too. Ideeli is one that caught on in 2010 and now they are regularly featuring special sizes. Yay!
The sales kick off every Wednesday at noon and feature designers like Adrianna Papell, Calvin Klein, Seven7, Antik, and more. They not only offer plus sizes, but they also offer petite sizes. Ideeli claims petite sizes are more underrepresented than plus! That’s crazy! The fashion industry can’t seriously believe on tall and thin women like fashion. I’m not even going to get started (LOL).
To shop Ideeli’s great amazing deals you need an invite…Of course I have one for you!! Join today, it’s FREE! Click on the link below.
Melie Bianco is a handbag line based out of Los Angeles and offers what they call “Affordable Luxury.” You won’t find anything over $100. I recently purchased one of their bags at the Sassy City Chicks event. It’s this amazing clutch that I’ve only used once and I can’t wait to use again. If you’re looking to add some color into your life with a handbag, just look up. Oh…and if you live in the Los Angeles area, you’ll be happy to know they are holding a sample sale on April 30th at their headquarters in Pico Rivera. Go here for details. I don’t think I’m going to be able to go, so instead I’m just going to sit here and drool over these.
Oh yeah that’s me posing in my awesome Curvy Divas Rock tee at the recent Kurvee event. And yeah I think I’m sexy…LOL. Ok, I was just being silly and had to take the photo opportunity. While I was at Kurvee, I realized something. I’ve become a really indecisive shopper lately. I didn’t know what to buy. I guess that’s a lot better than being an impulse shopper, right?
What really confirmed it for me was a shopping trip I took with my mom last week. She wanted to buy me something for my birthday and I could not make up my mind on what I wanted. It was kind of frustrating. I actually waited until we went to the very last store to get something. FYI, I ended up with a pair of gladiator sandals and jewelery from Avenue.
I don’t know what’s going on, but now that I think about it, it’s been a lot easier on my wallet. But, when I do buy something, I just end up returning it because I bought it last minute. Grrr…
Has this ever happened to any of you? I consider myself a shopper and I need to fix it (LOL).
There’s this little thing called Full Figured Fashion Week in New York City that I have to save up for. And I am TRYING not to do any shopping, unless it’s an emergency or something. And I have been TRYING to ignore the “Collection by OSP.” But it doesn’t seem like it’s working. I am in love a lot of their pieces, but especially with the Crepe de Chine Pants in this amazing Rain Forest Green. I also love their use of sequins and the draping…oh the draping. Sigh. Rumor is there’s a coupon code on Manolo for The Big Girl’s blog for 40% off one item. But, not sure if it still works. Please let me know if it works. If it does, I might have to get those pants. Grrr…the shopping never ends.
Update: found this code on OSP’s Facebook fan page–Get $20 off $70, $30 off $90, or $40 off $120 when you use code OSPSPRINGSAVE exp 4/24.
Everyone’s favorite line ASOS Curve…well one of my favorite lines…has been getting a little vintage on us. And I like it! You’ll see from the pieces below that they’ve been inspired by the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. My jaw dropped when I saw the Full Dress with Variegated Stripes. I’m kind of in love. I would’ve worn this if I went to Coachella. I will admit, I was a “wanna be” hippie child when I was growing up. My dad had me listening to Jimi Hendrix and The Doors records. Remember records? Ohhhh the good ol’ days…just like the era’s that inspired the designs below. Ok, I’m totally showing my age here, but I don’t care. Fashion is timeless.
I’ve always loved the saying “April showers bring May flowers.” I might love the cold season, but I also love the spring weather. The saying reminds me that blooming flowers are almost here. I can smell them now. Read more

It’s Wednesday and I I feel like I’m still trying to recover from this weekend. I attended an art gallery exhibit on Saturday night, featuring some beautiful curvy women. You’ll hear about that soon.
Sunday, was a day filled with fashion and beauty. I was invited to the Retail Camp, which was held at Woodbury University. It was a two-day conference that brought together apparel and retail industry professionals, bloggers and designers. They taught them how to use technology as a marketing, business and brand development tool. I was only able to attend a half-day and it was very educational. Marie Denee The Curvy Fashionista and Jeanine Jacob of The Coveted, along with other top notch fashion bloggers were part of a panel called “The Business of Blogging.” It was a great look into the minds of successful fashion bloggers.
After the conference, I headed over to Kurvee, the shopping and beauty event. I met up with a bunch of other bloggers and we had so much fun. There was not only shopping, but there were beauty treatments as well. The weather was amazing as we sat on the patio waiting to see if we won any of the giveaways. A big thank you to the organizer, Tamika. You outdid yourself.
It was a greatly needed event and I thank all the vendors and sponsors for being a part of it. We had Haute CurVture, You by Crocs, Curvy Divas Rock, Belini, Chinese Laundry, Phoenicia Goddess, Sealed With A Kiss Designs, IGIGI, and many more! A portion of the proceeds went to Pushing Pink Pedals, they work with at risk women and teens to help build self esteem and empowerment through makeup. I seriously can’t wait for the next one. You should too!
Welcome to my new obsession, wooden bangle bracelet sets. Yes, it has to be a set. My friend Ivory has really inspired me to start wearing large bangle bracelets. She always rocks them! Today, I went shopping with my mom and she bought me an early birthday gift, which included a set from Avenue. She did buy me other stuff, but you’ll have to wait and see those. If you haven’t noticed, I have to buy my bracelets at plus size stores. I have my dad to thank for my large man hands. LOL. I love the tribal feel you get from these and they pretty much go with anything. Take a look at the wide assortment below.
