Tracy & City Chic on the Latin Billboard Award’s Red Carpet

Guest post written by Tracy López of Latinaish.com

I was invited to the Latin Billboard Awards and red carpet, courtesy of Telemundo. One of my first thoughts after receiving the invitation, (after, “OMG! I could meet Espinoza Paz or Pitbull!”) – was, “What in the world am I going to wear?!”

A smart friend recommended I contact Monique for advice and Monique did me one better – she hooked me up with CityChicOnline.com. They asked me to pick a dress, so after consulting about a dozen friends about three different dresses I liked on their website, the choice was obvious. Overwhelmingly my friends said the Ruffle Victoria Dress with black skirt and fuchsia top would compliment me best based on my body type, coloring and the type of event.

The first one I received didn’t fit and I almost panicked, but Monique calmed me down and had City Chic send two more sizes, which they sent right away. The dresses arrived in time and thankfully one of them fit well.  I had the top part taken in a little around the bust to reduce cleavage and to hold me more snuggly – but it would have been fine without the adjustment.

This particular dress seems to run small – so you may want to order a size or two larger than you think you should. Part of this is because the silky skirt fabric is kind of unforgiving and you don’t want it too tight if that’s a problem area for you. The top of the dress is absolutely gorgeous – from the almost hot pink color to what I call an “artichoke leaf” texture.

If your décolletage, shoulders and back are something you like to show off – this dress is definitely for you. I loved how much skin it showed up top so much that I didn’t wear a necklace so I could keep it open visually. Everyone complimented the design and color of this dress and I felt comfortable in it. The top part holds you in and up which gives the appearance of a good figure.

Accessories: I paired my dress with a black scarf I already owned to cover my upper arms and to take it from fun party dress to something a little more elegant. Shoes: A classic pair of black pumps or simple strappy kitten heels would work perfectly. Don’t try to wear this with footwear that is too complicated visually because it distracts from the dress. The bag: A simple black clutch. Jewelry: Again, I tried to keep it simple to make it more elegant. I used some small “diamond” earrings and a matching ring. Hair: This could work with hair down or up. I pulled mine back and slicked down the front.

One Last Tip: Make sure you have an assistant when you’re getting dressed – you’ll need someone to help zip you into it.

Plus Model Magazine’s May Issue

I love the May issue of Plus Model Magazine! Truth is-I love ALL the issues of PMM. It is “the” magazine for all things going on in our world. If you haven’t read this issue yet, make sure you do it soon. It’s filled to the brim with fashion and tons of info. Just look at the cover! This fashion spread of Always for Me swimsuits is stunning.

OK, maybe I’m playing favorites because I wrote two pieces in this issue: About Face Changes Art Perspective and Kurvee while Shopping. A big thanks to PMM for allowing me to contribute to this amazing digital mag!

My Spring Shoe Lust List

This is a “lust” list…not a “like” list. Join me in drooling over these HOT shoes. Shoes that I probably won’t ever get my hands on, but a curvy girl can dream…can’t she?

Bank Breaker V$. Bargain: White Satchel

Wow, it’s been a while since I did a Bank Breaker V$. Bargain feature. This time I chose an item that I want-a white satchel. This hand bag is a very chic no-nonsense kind of bag. I can really see it getting a lot of use this spring and into summer. I found the Alexa by Mulberry on LaGarconne.com in “petticoat white” for $1150.00! It’s our “Bank Breaker” all right. I actually like the “Bargain” bag better.

The “Bargain” bag is the Maurissa Carry-All Messanger from Melie Bianco in “bone” for $96.00. That is an insane deal compared to the bag above. If you’re a regular reader, then you know Melie Bianco is one of my new favorite hand bag designers. This one is definitely making my list.

Do you like the “Bank Breaker” or the “Bargain” handbag?

My Closet: Lovedrobe’s Crochet Neck Dress

I was looking over some old outfit posts and I couldn’t help but notice how my style has evolved. I don’t follow any “rules” and I dress regardless of what people think. It’s how I feel in a garment that dictates my mood. For example, this Lovedrobe Crochet Neck Dress (£38.00) made me feel very flirty. Not that I was, but you know what I mean (LOL). The dress was a little too short for me, so I wore my Bali leggings underneath. My hubby was happy about that. I chose my trusty Nine West heels to wear out that night. And I accessorized with a beautiful ring from Avenue and my Lane Bryant bracelets.

This dress got me so many compliments! I love the ruffle hem and the crocheted neck. Two distinct design features that you wouldn’t normally think go together. And the crochet goes all the way around, while the ruffle hem is just in the front. The dress does have a tie in the back so you can adjust it and a black slip underneath the dress, so it’s not see through. I did get a size bigger than what I normally wear, bit it didn’t make too much of a difference, I just adjusted the tie in the back and I was set. Love it!

Lovedrobe is a UK plus size clothing line and as of now you can find it on Style369.com. You should definitely check them out if you haven’t already.

Would you wear this dress?

China Glaze’s Electric Pineapple

China Glaze’s “Island Escape” collection won’t be available until the beginning of next month, but I was lucky enough to get my hands on a set.

I’ve already worn the Blue Iguana (read the post here) and tonight I painted my nails with Electric Pineapple. That leaves four more to go.

Put your sunglasses on, because this color is pretty bright. Especially for me. Like I said before, I usually play it pretty safe. But, I’m turning over a new leaf and getting bold! Hear me roar (LOL)!

This nail lacquer reminds me of a muted neon green. Does that make sense? It’s definitely eye-catching and it reminds me of summer. Sitting on a beach…sipping a pina colada….feet in the sand…

Are you bold? Will you try China Glaze’s Electric Pineapple?

Dear Rachel Pally

Dear Rachel Pally,

You don’t know me, but I have to say that I love your “White Label” collection. You have definitely captured the laid back L.A. style without compromising the chicness of your designs. In 2007, you created this collection for plus size women…thank you. I love your mission “To provide quality, comfort, and style to women of all shapes and sizes.” And that’s what you’ve done. This week I’m going to your sample sale in hopes of buying a few things. I’m supposed to be on a strict budget, but if I can get my hands on any of the dresses below (at a discounted rate) I’d be a very happy woman. Just don’t tell my husband.

Sincerely,
Monique

Review: Skindura’s SecretShield

All right, let’s just get it out in the open. I’m going to come out and admit that my thighs do get chafed during the summer months. Whew! I feel a lot better now. And I know that most of you have issues with chafing (a.k.a. chub rub) as well. It’s normal, there’s no need to be embarrassed. Instead, why not find a solution, right?

We’ve all tried the products on the market. Raise your hand if you’ve used deodorant, powder, Vaseline, biker shorts, and even the stuff runners use to stop the chafing. It’s kind of like this endless cycle isn’t it. One thing doesn’t work and we just move on to the next.

I have good news for you, your search may have just ended. I was recently sent Skindura’s SecretShield to review. And instead of throwing on some shorts under my dress, I grabbed this instead.

Now, I will be honest and tell you that I was hesitant at first. It claims it’s “100% veggie derived formula creates a breathable barrier on skin.  Waterproof and sweatproof yet it allows your skin to perspire.  Stands up to hot, dry, humid, and cold conditions.  Won’t evaporate, like products made from  mineral oil, lanolin, water, or alcohol.  Fragrance free, no artificial colors, and non staining.  Silky formula glides on and stays put.

I was going to an outdoor event where I would be doing a lot of walking. I put this on the inner part of my thighs and headed out. It was correct when it say’s it allows your skin to perspire, because I did. I was so worried I would sweat it off.

After 4 hours of wearing it there was no chafing. None at all. Yay!! It didn’t leave behind any stains or residue either. And I’m so happy it didn’t irritate my skin. It is fragrance free, which I really appreciate. The price is very reasonable. For only $10, you get a 1oz. balm, which seems like it would last a few months.  Check out their Etsy page for more products and especially for their awesome SecretShield.

I’m definitely looking forward to my chafe-free summer. Are you?

*Disclaimer: I was NOT compensated for this review. Although the item was gifted, the above is my true and honest opinion.

What I Wore: City Chic’s Passion Flower Maxi

What do you wear on a sunny day in Los Angeles? A maxi dress! Not just any dress, but the Passion Flower Maxi (on sale $30) by City Chic. The Australian fashion retailer is really impressing me with the fit and quality of their designs. My hubby picked this dress and I’m so happy he did. It’s the perfect length for my 5’6 height. I really liked the slight draping in the front and the ruched band on the bust. My favorite part of the dress is the fact that it actually fit me in the chest area without falling down and being uncomfortable. I actually didn’t want to take the dress off, that’s how comfortable it is. Oh and I must point out that the shipping from City Chic is FREE and it got here in a few days. That makes me a happy shopper.

I accessorized this dress with my favorite pair of Nine West gladiator sandals, a coral ring from H&M, bracelets from Avenue, and a brass key necklace from Mindfulnest. I told you ladies I’m going to be a maxi dress wearing fool this spring and summer (LOL).

What do you ladies think? Would your wear this maxi dress?

Disclaimer: The dress was gifted by City Chic. The above is my true and honest opinion.

FFFWeek Update…On a boat!

Full Figured Fashion Week is 7 weeks away! I’m sitting here trying to figure out what I’m more excited for during my week in New York City. I think “Curves at Sea” has taken the lead. It’s a “white on white” sunset cruise on the Hudson River. All to celebrate the opening of FFFWeek. They say there will be 3 floors of music, networking, and dancing. Hmmm…I don’t have my white outfit yet, but don’t you worry. I’m already envisioning the dress. Tickets are only $35! Get them at www.FFFWeek.com, along with the other fabulous events.

Will I see you at “Curves at Sea?”
