Parties, Friends, & Torrid

Yes! More outfits from my weekend at BlogHer. And these two are courtesy of one of my favorite brands, Torrid. They’ve really been stepping it up, in my opinion. Especially, in the quality department. And that’s something that goes a long way for me. If you’re going to spend the money, the piece has to last!

Here I am sitting with my partner in crime, Cid from Cid Style File. We practically hung out all weekend in San Diego. This is from one of the many parties we attended. I wore Torrid’s Leopard Mesh Maxi Dress and I felt very sexy in it. I even got a few compliments while I was dancing my butt off. I do wish it was a little longer, but I guess it’s better that way, so I wasn’t tripping over it.

On our last day at the conference, I wore Torrid’s Navy Embroidered Challis Tube Top. I was seriously expecting this to be a thinner top, with the design to be painted on. But, I was wrong. This top, made from rayon, had this amazing embroidery. I wore it with my  Torrid skinny jeans.

One of the things I loved about both of these strapless pieces is that they didn’t fall down on me. That’s something I really appreciated. Especially, on a busy running around kind of day.

A big thank you to Torrid for the amazing pieces I wore to BlogHer.

Sneak Peek: Missoni for Target

Oh Missoni!

Via the blog, All the way up here, here is a sneak peek at the Missoni for Target look book! These are just a few of the items that caught my eye. There’s a little discussion going around asking what sizes they will go up to. Hopefully, an XXL! that way I can squeeze myself into something here.

According to the blog, there will be more than 400 pieces. This includes luggage, home, children’s, men’s, swimsuit, and a really cute bike!! I can’t wait to see them all, especially this first chocolate sweater/poncho. Delish!

The collection will launch at Target on September 13th.

What pieces are most looking forward too?

Paisley Meets BlogHer

On day 2 of BlogHer, I decided to wear this paisley Jessica London Printed Maxi Dress. First, let me apologize for the photos. This is what happens when you don’t bring your tripod. I haven’t done a mirror photo in a while. LOL.

This dress, courtesy of Jessica London, got a lot of compliments. I think it was this chic paisley print. I really loved the color combination, especially the navy. And I know I can definitely wear this into the fall too. I felt very bohemian wearing it. But, it does run a little big, so choose a size smaller. Oh, I also wore my new nude Dolce Vita sandals. Love them!

Have you been over to the Jessica London web site lately? They have some really cute stuff! I was like a kid in a candy store!!

Beauty Buzz & Giveaway: Aromatherapaes

As I went through my “green” stage, I was on the look out for natural beauty products. Believe me, there are so many out there, but sometimes they just straight out don’t work. And the ones that do work are very expensive. If you feel the same way, then you are going to really like Aromatherapaes.

Aromatherapaes is a certified natural line of aromatherapeutic bath, body, and skincare products. The combine the most beneficial essential oils with the safest, natural ingredients.

Some of the essential oils they use are bergamot, chamomile, eucalyptus, lavendar, neroli, orange, and peppermint…to name a few.

I tried the Refreshing Moisture Lotion in Sweet Orange & Vanilla, Nourishing Moisture Body Wash in Sweet Orange & Vanilla, and the Refreshing Moisture All-Over Balm in Sweet Orange & Vanilla. I’m kind of in love with the All-Over Balm. I use it on my elbows and feet. Because you know how our feet get during the summer wearing nothing but sandals.

First of all, they smell incredibly good. And just knowing the company is cruelty-free makes me very happy. They don’t use sulfates, parabens, phthalate or formaldehyde donors, or ethoxylated ingredients (all the bad stuff).

Do you want to try it out for yourself? I have few travel size products for you.

Leave a comment below, telling me why you use all-natural products.

Rules: must be 18 years-or-older, your information has to be correct, only one entry per person, and you must claim your prize within 24 hours, winner will be chosen via random.org, and giveaway ends 8/22/11 12pm PST.

Ask Ivory…

Hi Ivory,

I have a blue & white tye dye dress that I want to wear on a brunch cruise,
but I’m style challenged on what accessories would look good.

Please help!!!!

-Tee

I love yellow and blue together, so perhaps a yellow clutch? Silver bangles (tons of them; Ashley Stewart carries some really cute ones), large hoops and a chunky ring. I would prefer nude sandals with a heel or you can do wedges. Have fun!

Hello Ivory,

I work in a professional environment where flip flops, jeans (other than Friday), tank tops, etc. are not appropriate. I consider myself someone that dresses with “flare” and would love to dress professionally in a way that flatters my shape while still adding some punch to make me stand out. What would you recommend I do to achieve this?

-Michal

I also work in a professional environment and I understand where you’re coming from. My lifesaver at work has been dresses, dresses and more dresses (esp in this heat). I pretty much wear dresses for work all year long. I tend to look for more conservative styles that I can add a belt and printed shoes with. I also LOVE pencil skirts; I love showing off my hips and pencil skirts are perfect for this. I struggle in finding blazers to pair with said pencil skirts; however a cardigan is a good substitute while I search. Show off that waist! I have about 50 belts that I pair with almost everything. Belts are a great way to change up an ordinary outfit and to add a bit of a punch. Also, don’t be afraid of color! I wear yellow, red, cobalt blue to work on a regular basis and manage to still remain professional. In the winter, I add a pair of printed/textured tights to my dresses/skirts. It’s a bit unexpected and fun.

Hey Ivory,

I was wondering how do you find fashion in a fashionless state and affordable. I stay in Arizona and there is hardly any fashion out here and stuff online is really expensive. If you could help me that would be great. Please and thank you.

-Star

I think the most important thing is to establish your style/what you like to wear. This makes shopping sooo much easier. My best suggestion would be to keep an open mind and shop in places where you think may have nothing for you. Thrifting as super economical, but can be frustrating if you’re not sure what you’re looking for. Check you your local Salvation Army/Goodwill; I have found some gems in there. Secondly, what do you consider to be expensive? If you find an item you love, you will get much more wear out of it than you would with something you just “like”. Many websites have clearance sales going on now, i.e Asos (and they have free shipping!). Ebay is a great option, especially if you know your body well and what will/will not fit.

In a Tiger kind of Mood

I’m back ladies! In case you didn’t know, I was in San Diego attending a blogging conference. BlogHer is the largest conference for women bloggers. There are over 3,000 women from all over the world. It was so much fun, and such a great learning experience.

Over the next couple of days, you’ll see some of the outfits I wore. Torrid, Jessica London, Ashley Stewart, and Sonsi supplied me with clothes and accessories for the weekend. Thank you so much guys!

On the first day of the conference, I wore this Grey All-Over Tiger Print Maxi Dress ($54.50) from Torrid. I got so many compliments on this dress. You know I love maxi dresses.

And of course I love the fact that there are tigers all over the dress! It was such a unique print and I know the cut of this dress would look great on everyone. Just watch out for the length. Remember, I’m 5’6  and I’m wearing sandals and the dress was practically on the floor. But, I kind of like that. LOL.

So, what do you think? Are you loving the tiger print?

Disneyland Casual

Visiting Disneyland in summer, with a million people is not for the weary. That’s why I made sure to dress comfy and cool. I wore my Curve I.D. Levis, this  new Free People top, and my new Dolce Vita sandals.

The top is so soft and flowy. You can’t tell, but the back of the top is longer. I heart my jeans and these awesomely comfy Dolce Vita sandals I pickup up on sale at Nordstrom Rack! You will definitely see me wearing them more often.

Below are a few silly pics I took today….I met Mickey…hee hee. And that is me sitting at his desk, in his home. And this amazing Disney style hair piece. LOL. OK, it’s just a bow from a present I got here. Hahahahaha…

Size? What Size?

What is a true fashionista? We all have our own definitions, but one word I always come to is “unlimited.” A true fashionista has no fashion limits. She will try on anything, regardless of the what the label says. “What? The label say’s it’s a large? So, what! I like it and I’m going to see if it fits.” Actually I know a few who don’t even look at sizes.

I thought of this yesterday, as I was shopping of course.

If you haven’t met my friend Ivory of  the blog Ivory Jinelle, then you’re missing out. Not only is she a true fashionista, but she’s an awesome person to go shopping with (You’ll be seeing her a lot more around here). I love her outlook on fashion and her passion for not fitting the mold.

She’s one of the first curvy ladies, I met that didn’t “stay inside the lines.” When we go shopping, she goes straight to the ‘straight sizes.’ No pun intended. I’m always like…”Hey, the plus section is over here.”

Today, because of her and a few other curvy fashion inspirations online, I do not fear walking into the “straight sizes.” Actually it’s more of a personal challenge for me. As some of you might have read, for a long time, I was intimidated to walk into “straight size” stores or departments. Not anymore and for that I thank you…true fashionistas.

Here are a few straight size lines/brands that I’ve found. Make sure you try them on, some of their pieces are hit or miss. And remember I’m a size XXL or 16/18.

Rachel Rachel Roy

I tend to stick to her size XL, preferably any of her draped pieces.

Rachel Pally

Yes, I know she has the White Label Collection, but her straight sizes run pretty big. I have a dress that’s a large and it’s till big on me.

Tart Collections

I tried on a size large tank yesterday and it fit perfectly, but it was stretchy.

Free People

If you’re going to buy here, aim for the over-sized tops. I bought two yesterday in a large, but they do offer XL in a few pieces.

These are only a few brands and designers…

What “straight size” brands do you tend to gravitate to?

Handbags go Tribal

You can call it a tribal, aztec, or even southwestern print. It actually reminds me of a sarape. That’s a brightly colored mexican blanket or shawl, by the way.

I remember having a blanket like this as a teenager, but that was in my anti-bright color days. So, it was  taupe, black, and white. Whenever I look at these, I feel like go to Tijuana and buying a few of those blankets. LOL.

Ove the past two days of shopping, I’ve seen the print every where. Especially, in the handbag world. I even bought myself one today at Old Navy. I also saw a lot of ponchos in this sprint. It’s really boho chic or is it surfer girl?

Whatever it is, I like it! Do you?
