Beauty Buzz: Benefit’s Stay Don’t Stray

I’ve told you curvaliscious ladies before about my non-makeup ways before this blog. But, now I love trying new products that work for me. Just like I did when I was strolling through Macy’s one day and came across the Benefit counter. They offered me a sample of their Stay Don’t Stray primer for your eyes. I saved it for my cousin’s wedding since it was going to be hot that day and I was going to take a lot of pictures.

Now, I am not one to brag about a product just because, but this one really did what it was supposed to. At the end of the night after 12 hours of wearing my makeup (in the heat), my eyeshadow and concealer around my eyes still looked intact. I was amazed I didn’t have to reapply my eyeshadow once! I need to get my hands on a full-size bottle stat!

Have you used this product? How has it worked for you?

Shoes…I want you.

Whenever I go shopping and I see a tank or blouse I really like, I try to buy it in a few different colors. I don’t know how that started but, it’s just something I do. Does anyone else do that? Anyways, I’ve never done that with a pair of shoes. Never. But, today I flipped through the latest Alloy catalog and I found my first pair of shoes I would consider buying in all colors available.

The Parker Wedge ($32.90)has caught my wandering eye…great…another shoe to fall in love with. There is a problem, I’ve never purchased shoes from Alloy and I am concerned of the fit. Have any of you ever purchased shoes from them? I need to know how they fit and what their quality is like before I buy them.

Beauty Obsession

I know this might sound weird but, I haven’t purchased a bottle of perfume in years. I usually wear those body sprays from Bath & Body Works. I kinda had these sinus allergies and perfumes really agitated my nose. But, that was until I smelled this glorious and amazing scent from Michael Kors. I know I’m late. But, I am sooooo obsessed with this fragrance. Sometimes, I don’t want to spray it because I’m afraid of not having it anymore. Is that weird? LOL. What’s your favorite fragrance?

Who is your favorite fashion designer and why?

I have several favorite designers that I absolutely love, but for clothing it would have to be Ralph Lauren. His pieces are classic and withstand yearly trends. Also, he has “real” sizes that work for plus-size women. Most of my favorite pieces in my closet are Ralph Lauren that I have thrifted. Another favorite of mine is Marc Jacobs, though I know I won’t ever be able to wear his clothing unless I lose more than half my weight, his accessories lines are amazing. Sunglasses, handbags, shoes, etc are all amazing and I can’t get enough of them.

Being a plus-size woman makes shopping for clothes in the “high fashion” designer lines harder, so I love the in house designers for stores like Avenue, Torrid, and Target. They really cater to PS women on a budget and make both trendy and classic pieces that aren’t gawdy.

What is the one fashion accessory/item you can’t live without?

Sunglasses! No matter what the weather is they are perfect. If you are having a bad day and your eyes are puffy slip on a pair and wallah they’re gone. Sunglasses can add pop of color to a basic outfit too, you could be wearing all black and have a red pair on and it will instantly change your look. My favorite pair are my Marc by Marc Jacobs ones. I actually have 3 pairs of them that I don’t know what I would do without.

If you were allowed to create a beauty product, what would it be and what would you name it?

Surprisingly I don’t wear that much makeup or use that many beauty products, so this is hard to answer. However, I would love the ability to create the perfect shampoo and conditioner that would be designed specifically for my hair and my hair only. My hair is out of control and it has to do with Cuban/Irish genes. Its crazy curly, thick, but also fine and oily, which makes it hard to find a shampoo/conditioner that works right for my hair. Either it weighs my hair down and makes it more greasy, or it drys it out completely. I would name it Cubanita Works :)

If you only had 10 minutes to pack for a fashion extravaganza in your favorite city, what would you bring and where would it be?

A maxi dress, flip flops, a pair of leggings, one long knit tunic, bathing suit, and one pair of wedges. I would love to be in a maxi dress daily and dress it up my throwing on a pair of wedges if I need to go out on the town. My favorite city is one that I have never been, I would love to go to Havana. I have seen thousands of pictures from my mom and grandmother, it is such a beautiful place. If I had the opportunity I would love to go to Cuba and see the areas my family grew up in.

Do you live by a fashion philosophy or quote? What is it?

“Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent.”- Eleanor Roosevelt. Being a bigger girl I have had to deal with criticism and jokes, but when that happens I think of this quote and I realize what others say doesn’t matter. I have learned the hard way that what I think of myself and how I see myself counts for more than how others see me. I have come a long way in my self-confidence journey, and blogging about my style has helped me feel more secure with myself.

Shoe Fever: Steve Madden

Of course all the shoes I want are $99 and over! Somehow, the hot shoes and I are always separated. We’re kind of like Romeo and Juliet. We’re destined to be together, but other circumstances keep us apart…like no money. Except, I don’t think I would die for them. So, maybe we aren’t like Romeo and Juliet after all. See how these hot shoes mess with my mind!! Read more
