Thanks to Plus Model Magazine for the heads up on these two videos. Vice.com (from the UK), covered Full Figured Fashion Week for their series “Fashion Week Internationale.” I’d really love to know what you think after watching both videos.
I will tell you, it was honor to attend Full Figured Fashion Week and wouldn’t of had my experience any other way. I had an amazing time and loved being surrounded by women who love fashion as much as I do.
Are you the kind of lady that likes to make a fashion statement? You know…someone that stands out in a crowd? I know a few brave ones. I unfortunately am not that brave. I’m usually the one who has wishes she had the the guts to step outside of my comfort zone, when it comes to fashion. If you read my blog, then you know I’ve said this many times before.
For example, last week I was browsing around the Plus Size Fix web site and found a few daring pieces. I instantly thought to myself…”Cute, but I could never pull that off.” Have you ever felt that way? I think almost everyone has had one of those moments.
Take a look at some of the “stand out” pieces below…which one would you rock?
Calling all Los Angeles Fashionistas! If you love to shop, then you don’t want to miss the Sassy City Chicks L.A. Fall Fashion Bash!
I don’t know a better way to celebrate Fall! I’ve been to this event twice and it’s filled with shopping, shopping, and more shopping. There are major discounts on brands like Free People, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Ellie Tahari, and lots of jewelry and accessories.
They’ll have complimentary cocktails from Pinnacle and Qream Liqueur. Sip on a Strawberry Creme drink from the Qream Lounge. There will be mini-spa treatments from some of L.A.’s hottest salons. You’ll even get your hands on a Sassy Tote! The Sassy Tote is valued at over $30 and features nutritious SOYJOY bars, Softlips, and Fredericks’s of Hollywood lingerie. Sexy!!
City Chic’s 2nd Blogger Lookbook is finally here. If you haven’t seen it yet, take a second to click on over and check it out. It features 12 bloggers wearing pieces from the Australian retailer. I’m wearing the Lava Zip Back Top and Leatherette Biker Jacket. The top is on sale now, so go and grab it. I get tons of compliments on it. Great colors! I love the jacket too, but it’s been a little too warm here in L.A. to wear it as often as I’d like. I know I’m going to get a lot of wear out of it, once the cool weather kicks in. It’s probably one of my favorite City Chic pieces. Do you have a CC favorite?
Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post. The items were gifted by City Chic. The above is my true and honest opinion.
This last year in the “plus-size” fashion world has been crazy. We’ve been getting the most coverage I’ve ever seen. Even so, mainstream America still has no idea about what this world is like.
Yes, there was the cable mini-series Big Sexy on TLC. It definitely caused a stir. But that’s it…or is it? Tonight, Curvy Girls premiered on NuvoTV. The new show features models Denise Bidot, Lorna Litz, Rosie Mercado, and Victoria Castillo.
Curvy Girls provides an all-access pass inside the glamorous world of professional modeling by shining the spotlight on four working plus-size Latina models whose passion and pride fuel their drive to achieve fame, fortune and fabulousness. But secret battles with insecurity, eating disorders, family fiascos and rocky romantic relationships threaten to singe their competitive spirit as they navigate through L.A.’s fast lane of auditions, photo shoots and fierce competition.
I personally know Denise and Rosie, and couldn’t be happier to see these two featured on this show. They are amazingly wonderful and sweet women. I’ve spent enough time with both of them to know that they are both fighters and hard workers. Both are great moms and beautiful on the inside and out.
As I watched tonight, I listened to all of these women reveal their personal struggles and couldn’t help but feel for them. They may be physically beautiful, but they hate their boobs or think they aren’t perfect enough. In other words, body-image issues don’t stop at just us.
We even get an inside look on the dreaded modeling standards and how they effect if and how much these ladies actually work. There were a “few” scenes that I’m not very happy about or impressed with, but that’s just television…I guess.
They always need to add drama to the show (via editing). So, enters the mean-spitired people, cattiness, jealousy, and an almost fight. Mannnnn…some people can be so ugly on the inside. I guess the plus size modeling industry is a lot like the straight-size modeling world. This documentary really got me thinking…
Did you watch Curvy Girls?
What did you think?
Models…is this a proper representation of your world?

With the passing of NYFW and now in the midst of LAFW, there’s tons of spring previews going around. Including this 2012 look at Rafaella’s spring line. I was invited to this preview in New York City, but being that I live in Los Angeles, I couldn’t attend. Boo! I was sent these amazing photos, so I can share with you.
As you can see, the line is filled with brights, whites, and neutrals. You’ll also see a lot of pattern mixing with stripes, chevrons, animal prints, and polka dots. There’s even some color blocking. You can find these pieces, in Spring 2012, at Lord & Taylor, Dillard’s, BELK and Rafaella.com.
I’ll stop typing now, so you can look at the pics…
