Bubbles & Bites with Gilt City & Hpnotiq Harmonie

I really do hate missing out on a beauty event. But, you all know I’ve been sick. I was so heart broken to miss the Bubbles & Bites party over at Benefit Cosmetic’s Santa Monica location.

It was sponsored by Gilt City LA and HPNOTIQ Harmonie. I “heard” the lucky guests were pampered with mini makeovers as they sipped on delicious HPNOTIQ inspired cocktails and indulged in tasty sweet treats from the HPNOTIQ candy bar.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on the ultra-exclusive swag bag.  It was filled with some of Benefit’s newest products, including their oh so popular BADgal Lash Ultra Mascara! I can’t wait to use it. I hear nothing but great things about Benefit.

What’s your favorite Benefit Cosmetic beauty product?

Gilt City, is the newest site from Gilt that offers you the biggest deals in your city. Get going! Start shopping Gilt City while sipping on a HARMONIE Blush cocktail (only if you’re 21+ over of course). They are yummy! I’ve had one before.

Disclosure: I didn’t attend this event, but I was gifted a complimentary gift bag. The above is my true and honest opinion.

Why Size Discrimination?

I’m VERY irritated with this so-called fashion industry, fashion scene, or fashion whatever. As a designer, you have the right to create whatever you like, in any size, and for any person. There are no boundaries to what you design or envision to be fashion. You can be as brave and bold or as simple as you want. There is an infinite amount of freedom to express who you are in your designs. Read more

DefShop is Hip Hop & Streetwear

You’re curvy, you adore Hip Hop, maybe you skate, and you love Streetwear fashion. I knew you were out there.

After spending time in New York City, I can definitely appreciate all types of fashion. Especially style that comes from the streets. I am so jealous of those who can actually pull it off. And now that streetwear had definitely gone retro, I’m getting flash backs just writing this.

I was checking out Def Shop, a Hip Hop and Streetwear online boutique from Europe, and I instantly fell for the retro inspired shoes. Especially, those nice sneakers, like the Nike’s. This is all sooooo 1980’s, from the Adidas bags, brightly colored watches, headphones, and wayfarer sunglasses. I hope I’m not showing my age here.

Don’t worry ladies. If the Hip Hop look isn’t for you, you can also get your bohemian chic look with brands like Flamenco Chic, Italy Style, and Coolway. They do have plus sizes too! And I need that blue scarf in my life.

Remember, the best thing about buying from a European store is the opportunity of buying brands that you can’t normally find in the U.S. Yay! for online shopping and international shipping.

Are you a Hip Hop or Streetwear fashionista?

Casually…Red, White, and Blue

Yes, you’re going to see a lot of red, white, and blue inspired looks as we get closer to this 4th of July weekend. I wanted to go a little bit of a different route to offer you some color inspiration. A lot of these pieces can be paired together or just worn alone. I chose a lot of casual pieces, because one…it’s summer…and two…it’s the weekend. And it’s going to be hot!

I’m looking at this and I can’t help but think how much I love all of these colors right now. Are you going to honor our country’s independence this weekend with a little red, white, and blue?

What color inspiration are you loving? The red, white, or blue

Simply Yours and the Camisole

If there’s one thing I’ve noticed in the plus size online-shopping world,  it’s that there are quite a few options in the U.K. I used to live in Europe and at that time, I didn’t do any online shopping for clothes. Today, you can find almost anything online, including lingerie.

 Sexy! Sexy!

Simply Yours is one of those U.K. lingerie brands. I actually owned a plus size corset of theirs and I loved it! They make the cutest pieces. Anything from bras, knickers, hosiery, nightwear and more.

I was looking at their web site today and I couldn’t help but notice something. Why don’t I wear camisoles like these?

Really? The camisole is such a basic, but essential piece. Think about it, when was the last time you had a button up blouse and you just wanted to leave a few buttons open, but you didn’t want to flash everyone? If you had a lace camisole, you could just wear it underneath and let it peek out. Leaving something to the imagination?

And I’ve always been a fan of wearing tanks underneath my tops as well, but sometimes you just want something a little sexier. That’s where the plus size camisole comes in. It can even be worn casually or as sleepwear. They even carry slimming camisoles, if that’s what you need. You know I love how one piece of clothing can be used in so many ways and be functional. Once again lingerie saves the day!

Do you own a camisole from Simply Yours?

COVERGIRL’s Queen Collection BET Beauty Lounge

Ever since I got back from NYC, I really haven’t been feeling too well. So, in order to try and feel normal, I attended an event on Sunday. COVERGIRL was out and about in L.A. showcasing their Queen Collection at the BET Beauty Lounge.

It was held at the always fabulous, Nine Zero One Salon in West Hollywood and the glam was definitely on hand. This exclusive event featured celebrity make-up artist Ashunta Sheriff and actress Tika Sumpter. Both were so sweet! Ashunta gave us some amazing and useful tips, while she was getting Tika red carpet ready for the BET Awards.

We got mini-makeovers. As you can see, I did get my make up done (smokey eye) and you know they have that amazing braid bar at the salon. I just wanted something loose and romantic. I loved it! I wore this green rayon dress I bought at Target, a skinny gold belt from New York and Company, jewelry from Avenue and nude peep toe sling backs by Jessica Simpson. And if you’re wondering, that’s an amazing coral Cacique plunge bra under that dress! LOL!! Is that FYI?

I did get to hang out with my girlies Marie from The Curvy Fashionista, Ivory from Ivory Jinelle, and Romy form Romy Raves. Love these ladies!! You know what else I love? The fact that I am falling more and more in love with COVERGIRL products. Not only am I getting a reasonably priced and amazing quality product, but with the Queen Collection it’s make up especially for my skin tone! And it’s easy to apply. That makes me a very happy curvy Latina!!

I walked out with an amazing gift bag full of Queen Collection products. And if you were on Twitter today, you had a chance to win a free lipstick. Follow me @CurvesandChaos for more spontaneous giveaways!

Disclosure: Entry to this event was complimentary. I did receive a gift bag and complimentary beauty services. The above is my true and honest opinion.

FFFWeek: Runway Finale Outfit

I can’t believe Full Figured Fashion Week is all done and over with. My week in NYC went by in a minute! Before I knew it, the runway finale was upon us.

The event was held in a hotel located in Times Square and I can tell you the energy at the event was ten times more than what was going on outside.

I know I might sound like a broken record, but  I can’t stress how amazing it is to have all of these amazingly full figured, plus sized, curvaceous, shapely, or whatever you want to call it, women in one room drooling over fashion.

The designers were amazing and I loved that they used such a wide range of models in different sizes. I literally had my jaw drop a couple of times when I saw these beauties strutting their stuff on the runway.

Every designer had something I liked, but there were a few designs that definitely stood out. They know who they are! And I want to send a BIG CONGRATS to my girls Maddy and Fluvia for the awards they won! You are such role models! I love ya!!

For the finale, I wanted to step out of my comfort zone (thanks Ivory!), with a body hugging colorful dress. I found this cobalt Rachel Rachel Roy “The Vivian Dress” at Macy’s. It’s an XL and I was so happy I was able to stuff my curves into it. I paired it with these Jefferey Campbell lace back pumps, Forever 21 earrings, and Avenue bracelets (of course).

I think most of you have seen photos from the finale, but I wanted to share this one with you. It’s my favorite one of the night. It really shows the beauty on the inside and outside of these amazingly stunning women.

China Glaze’s Turned Up Turquoise

I’ve been craving a turquoise nail color and I knew China Glaze would have what I was looking for. They always do. I found Turned Up Turquoise over at Ulta for $7. It’s little more green in real life. For some reason  it was hard to get the exact color in the photos. Something really interesting about this color is that it dries matte. I used the China Glaze No Chip Top Coat to add some gloss. I love that top coat.

What brand makes your favorite turquoise nail color?

Changing it Up!

Call it what you will…interchangeable, convertible, or infinity this style of dress has to be the best deal for your hard earned cash. One price with so many different options. I have been craving my own dress and can’t wait to buy one. You know I’ll get my money’s worth, because that’s what bargainistas do! I even found a blog, Rostitchery, that shows you how to create your own infinity dress.  With so many options, what’s a curvy girl to do? Which designer does a girl choose?

Are you a Hat Lover? Introducing Arturo Rios

The minute this couture hat, modeled by Maxey for Curvysta, hit my page it was on! Everyone kept asking me where it was from. You should have seen the attention it was getting at the rooftop media reception event for Full Figured Fashion Week. It’s not only stunning in the photo, but amazingly beautiful in person!

Designed by the very talented Arturo Rios from Los Angeles, this design is only the tip of the iceberg! Just take a look at some of my favorite pieces below. Stunning!!

Would you rock one of these couture hats?

My Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty Exhibit Visit

When I found out I was going to New York for Full Figured Fashion Week, I knew I had to head over to The Metropolitan Museum of Art. I’ve always been an admirer of Alexander McQueen, his vision, and talent. His death was a loss for the the fashion world. I loved his work, but didn’t know much about him personally. That’s why I made sure to attend the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit.

As the line wrapped around the museum, I couldn’t help but wonder what the exhibit would be like. From the minute I walked in, I was in awe. Seriously, his designs were so unique and captured every bit of what made him an amazing fashion designer. I made sure to purchase the museum’s audio tour ($7), which allowed me to hear narrated pieces by those who knew him, worked with him, and wore his designs. This also gave me insight into the concept of his many different collections.

Every single piece in every room was eye candy, including his shoes and accessories. I learned so much about him from the beginning of his career right down to his last collection. He wasn’t afraid of fashion and I think that’s what I appreciated most about him.

If you’re in the New York City area, I would definitely recommend visiting The Met and waiting in the long line to view his work. The general admission ticket is only $20 and it allows you to visit the entire museum, including this exhibit which runs from now until August 7, 2011.

Have you been to this exhibit? What was your impression?

Sorry, but we weren’t allowed to take photos or video. I found these images on the museum web site. Please note that all images below are property of  The Photograph Studio, The Metropolitan Museum of Art. I do not claim to have taken these images. You can find them here.
