Style Trend: The Kimono

The Kimono, a traditional Japanese garment, has always inspired fashion trends. Kimono actually means “a thing put on.” And derives from ki “wear” and mono “thing.” Just a little fashion lesson for ya.

It’s normally a long length robe, with wide sleeves and wide sash at the waist. And it was a definite inspiration for these pieces I found below at Style369.com, Evans.co.uk, and DorothyPerkins.com.

They feature the the wide sleeves and some even have a sash as the waist. It’s definitely not your traditional Kimono, it’s just a trend inspired by it. I’m dying over the Dorothy Perkin’s Orange kimono dress!

Are you feeling the kimono inspiration?

Thank You

Thank you to everyone who voted for me to be included in City Chic’s next blogger lookbook! I made the cut and will be featured in the next one. In fact, I’m currently shopping for my next City Chic outfit (LOL).

Thank you again, I really do appreciate it! xoxo

Beauty Buzz: China Glaze’s Fall METRO Collection

I think my nails are officially excited for China Glaze’s Fall 2011 METRO collections in “Downtown” and “Uptown.”

“Uptown” is also a 6 piece box collection, which includes CG in the City, Urban-Night, Traffic Jam, City Siren, Street Chic, and Brownstone.

“Downtown” is a 6 piece box collection, which includes Skyscraper, Concrete Catwalk, Westside Warrior, Trendsetter, Loft-y Ambitions and Midtown Magic.

I’m wearing CG in the City below. You get all the glitter on a subtle purple/grey background.  It’s such a great color. I’m kind of in a hurry for summer to be over. I want to start wearing all these colors!

What METRO collection is for you? Uptown or Downtown?

Disclosure: The samples were complimentary. This is NOT a paid post. The above is my true and honest opinion.

Vogue Curvy and Fluvia Lacerda=Yay!

My girl Fluvia Lacerda has made ANOTHER appearance in Vogue Italia’s Curvy web site. She posed for the “Bathing Suits for Curvy Women” feature.

She looks stunning and I’m happy they are using a size 18 model. Make sure you leave a comment, so they know how much we love them using her and models that look like her. But, I will say…I’m kind of sad they covered her up in all the images they chose. She’s a very confident women with a beautiful body. There’s no need to cover that up!

Custom Plus is Customizable for You

I got this “Confidently Curvy” undies by Custom Plus at Full Figure Fashion Week. When I wear them, I feel super sexy and sassy. I can’t help it.

Custom Plus is a “custom apparel site, which caters exclusively to the plus size consumer.” That means you can design your own pair of undies, tank top, t-shirt, or tote bag with your own design or choose one of theirs. And the best part is, they offer sizes 0-32!

It’s not just for women either. They carry men, youth, babies, toddlers, and apparel for dogs. Yes, dogs…Fluffy gets a t-shirt. Their customizing tool is super easy to use too. I love this idea and can’t wait to order from them!

Disclosure: This item was part of a complimentary gift bag. This is NOT a paid post. The above is my true and honest opinion.

A Turquoise Summer

It was another hot weekend in Souther California! I know it’s been hot all over the country and that makes it hard to actually want to go outside. But, I had a 3-year-old’s Hello Kitty birthday party to go to. You can’t miss those!

I grabbed this Fashion to Figure dress I’ve had in my closet for a few weeks and it was perfect weather to wear it. Besides, this is one of the colors I’ve been loving this summer.

The dress is no longer available on the web site, but I can tell you it’s a beautiful turquoise rayon summer dress with an embroidered ruffle on top. The straps are adjustable and there’s an elastic band under the chest, to give it shape.

I was a little worried that it would be too short, but it actually hit at the right spot for me. I wore my tan Aldo wedges (that are hard to button) and headed out the door.

Everything was cool until there was a gust of wind that flew right up the skirt. It seems like the dress wanted me to flash people or something! LOL

I’m so jealous of you east coast ladies that have a Fashion to Figure in your city. No fair. They need to come to Los Angeles!

Disclosure: This dress was gifted by Fashion to Figure. The above is my true and honest opinion.

Lookbook: Gunas the Eco-Vegan Luxury Handbag

In today’s Eco & animal friendly fashion world, I’m always interested to see what new item will catch my eye. I was supposed to attend the launch party of the Gunas collection below, but couldn’t make it. All I have is this lookbook to drool over. This Eco-vegan luxury line. I do wish I could feel the handbags myself, curious about the quality. What do you think? Is Eco the way to go?

Beauty Buzz: VS Fantasies & Dinner with an Angel

Where are all my Victoria’s Secret Beauty fans? Are you in love with Secret Garden too? The smells are intoxicating… aren’t they?

Did you know your favorite fragrances of Secret Garden have been reinvented. It’s now VS Fantasies and they’ve even added five new scents.

I was lucky enough to be invited to an intimate dinner at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Hollywood with Victoria’s Secret Angel Candace Swanepoel. Now, I didn’t know how intimate this dinner was going to be and I had never been to the legendary hotel. I had no idea what to expect.

As you can see in the pics below, it was very intimate. I met great people, had insightful conversation, and ate delicious food. I ate creme brulee for the first time!

I did get the Sheer love collection and I can honestly tell you it smells sweet and sexy, without being too overbearing. I have a sensitive nose when it comes to fragrances and this is delish! I’m dying over over the body butter!! Stay tuned…I have the entire collection you’ll be able to win soon!

And as for my dress, I bought it from my friend Crystal Rene at Haute CurVture. It was comfy and long! Just the way I like my maxi dresses. xoxo

Disclosure: My attendance to this event and gift bag were courtesy of Victoria’s Secret. The above is my true and honest opinion.

Top 5 List: Plus Size Fashion Pet Peeves

Can I have a moment for a curvy/fat/chubby/plus sized fashion rant? These are my top 5 pet peeves when it comes to clothing made for women of my size.

  1. Please for the love of chubby thighs, can you figure out a way to make the inside of  your pants/trousers more durable. Hello? I have thighs that rub together and that causes friction, which causes wear on the inside of the thigh.
  2. Cap sleeves on blouses are NOT my friend. Is it just me or does it look like my sleeves are shrinking? Either make it completely sleeveless or with a normal sleeve and I will buy it.
  3. I know I’m fat, you don’t have to remind me by making my clothes a lot more expensive than straight size clothes. Because you use “extra” material to make my dress. That my friend is called price discrimination.
  4. All of our breasts are not made equally. I may have a large chest, but Sally down the street doesn’t. Now she can’t buy your blouse because it’s way too big.
  5. Height does matter. Don’t forget there are tall and petite curvy women who want trendy fashion too. Not everyone is 5’7.
There! I feel much better. Now, let’s hope they are listening. Or I’ll just start making my own clothes.
What’s your plus size fashion pet peeve?

What’s missing?

I’m always so curious as to finding out exactly what fashionistas like when it comes to accessorizing. I’m a true believer that just one accessory can liven up any outfit. Especially if it’a nude or tan dress, like the T-Bags mini-dress below, and the accessory is a much needed pop of color. But, that’s just me. I want to know what you think…(read below)

T-Bags at ShopStyle

I’ve chosen 6 random accessories below.
If you could ONLY choose ONE, which item would you pair with the dress and why?
I’m curious.
