I am missing NYC soooo much right now. The Plus Model Magazine blogger conference was so much fun. There’s just something about being around a group of women who love fashion as much as you do. Nevermind the fact that we all love and appreciate our curves. Everyone looked so beautiful and the confidence was beaming from that room. Once again, a BIG thank you to Plus Model Magazine and Just As You Are for inviting me.
Erica Watson was hilarious, as always, and the models were beautiful. Unfortunately, my batteries and back-up batteries died. I didn’t get any photos after the Just As You Are fashion show. I wanted to take photos of all the bloggers too. Boooooo! to dead batteries.
How many of you are scared of online shopping? Not sure if the styles will suit you? Or is putting together an outfit online a pain in the butt?
If you answered yes to any of the questions above, then you’re going to love this new online tool. Brought to you by Charming Shoppes, the Fashion Genius is here to the rescue.
In less than 3 minutes and with NO measurements required, Fashion Genius will identify your unique body shape & personal style preferences, and then match your style to the perfect bras, tops and pants … just right for you!
I will admit, I’m not a big fan of the term “flatter.” LOL. I’m more of an “enhance” kind of girl. But, that really doesn’t matter here. Because, when you take the survey and answer as truthfully as possible, you’ll get a lot of options.
You can take the survey on the Sonsi, Lane Bryant, Catherine’s, or Fashion Bug web site. Create, save, and share your outfits.
Always inspired by shopping and my good friend Ivory, I had to feature a few pairs of zebra print shoes. It goes a little something like this…
There we were in Soho shopping at Topshop, with Ivory on the hunt for a “must have” pair of platforms she saw online, but were sold out in her size.
Sadly, when she found them, they didn’t have her size. She was a sad shopper. I will admit that shoe is pretty hot. I picked them up and started imagining the ways I would wear them. But, then I realized Ivory would kill me if I bought them before her and they were out of my price range anyways. Besides, all I heard for the rest of the trip was how much she wanted them.
Don’t worry, days later the shoe was restocked in her size online and she snagged the last pair. Now, she’s a happy camper and all I can do is wish those shoes were mine. Instead here are a few for your own Shoe Fever inspiration.
It’s been a few days since I returned from New York (I miss you!) and I’m trying to catch up. You’ll notice I’ve changed the layout of the blog. I think this one is easier to navigate and easier on the eyes. I hope it works.
Today, I’m catching up on all the recorded t.v. shows I missed while I was gone and yes, TLC’s Big Sexy is one of them.
I really do love the idea of a show featuring women who are confident in their bodies, but are normal at the same time. I’ve realized that regardless of the size you are, all woman have insecurities.
As I was watching the show and skimming through the breaks, I happened to run across a commercial for one of TLC’s other shows, What Not to Wear. Now, as much as I love fashion, I’m not a fan of ALL fashion shows. Big surprise, huh?
You all know my stand on fashion and being able to wear what you want as long as you’re confident in it. That’s where my dislike of fashion-themed television shows that thrive off of breaking down your personal style comes from. I don’t mind style advice, but when you’re describing a confident woman’s style in derogatory terms, that’s where I get upset.
There on my television was WNTW’s co-host Clinton Kelly standing in the mirror with a very confident woman, whom they deemed “curvy.” She was was wearing a sparkly tight dress and fur coat. Kelly loudly states that she looks like a stripper or whore…something along those lines. Huh? What? The sad thing is a lot of shows are like this and they’re popular too! What message is this sending to the young women who watch it?
One minute TLC wants to promote confident big girls and the next they are tearing a “curvy” woman apart because of her outfit choices. It doesn’t make sense to me.
I know most of the women on this show will all say they are happier now after their “make-overs.” And most of them go on because they want the help or someone urged them to go on. But, what about the women who walk on that set with confidence in their style? I guess if someone says you dress like a whore, it must be OK for them to berate you and change your style? Why would you let someone do this to you?
Here’s something you’ve probably said before…”Why can’t I find a coat that fits me?”
Fall is almost here and you know that means chilly weather. You all know I love when it gets cold. Although, L
os Angeles doesn’t get that cold, I still want a nice coat that actually fits me.
This weekend I was in New York, for the first Plus Model Magazine blogger conference. It was so much fun!! We were getting the first look, with a group of amazingly beautiful bloggers (those pics to come), of the new line of outerwear by Just As You Are.
Just As You Are wants to emphasize to all of us that they do care about what we want and for us to know that “size doesn’t matter.” They’ve done the research, believe me. They’ve listened, which a lot of brands don’t do. The coats do not come in sizes, you add your measurments, they tell you what coats would suit you, and you order. Simple.
As I watched the ladies modeling the coats (below), I noticed that there was something for everyone. They’ve to
uched on the small details. And believe me it’s the small details that count. For example, they only use faux furs, and they are incredibly soft. The coats are light weight, come in great fall colors, they have inside zippers, linings and faux fur collars that detach.
Prices will range from $159-$289, not bad for something you’ll use for many years.
The site will be live no later than September 14th. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. These coats really are mad
Although it’s scorching here in Los Angeles, I’m still thinking of and waiting for fall. I want to wear my City Chic faux leather a.k.a. leatherette motorcycle jacket. Faux leather jackets are hotter than ever and they come in a lot of different styles and colors. These are great for spring too! I will take one of each below. My favorite would have to be #1.
New York City here I come! Yes, I’m coming back and I couldn’t be more excited. I was lucky enough to be invited to the Plus Model Magazine Conference with Just As You Are.
Just As You Are, a, outerwear company, will give us (a group of bloggers) the first look at their plus collection.
Just As You Are™ is brought to you by AUI International, who have been designing and making ladies coats and outerwear for over 50 years. They are branching out to the plus size market – uniquely blending high fashion and functionality . Their Fall/Winter 2011 media campaign incorporates a diversity of real women , in a variety of shapes and types.
I’m not going to lie, I’m really excited. How many times have I been shopping for a coat, especially a wool pea coat, and couldn’t find anything that was of decent quality. It’s another form of fat girl shopping frustration…don’t you agree?
Looking for a belt that fits can be a pain in the butt, especially when you finally find one you like and it cost a lot more than what you wanted to spend.
I have done this for years, that’s probably why I only have 4 belts. Don’t get me wrong, I do want to wear more belts. They can add so much to a look, all while helping to show off that curvy figure.
Just My Size wants to help us with our belt problems, they have just launched a new belt collection. If you haven’t seen them in your local Walmart, it’s probably because they’ve only launched them in select stores nationwide.
There are only four of the nine styles and they only cost $12! They are available is sizes 1X-4X. That makes me a very happy shopper.
I tried out the Metallic Silver Black Leopard Print Belt and Wide Stretch Belt. The quality seems great and I love the trend twist to each belt. I am a size 16/18 and the 2X in each belt fits well. The stretch belt does seem to run a little big for me, but that’s OK. I hate wearing a belt that’s too small. That’s not something you have to worry about with the Just My Size belt collection.
Do you want a belt? Today’s you’re lucky day. Just My Size wants to giveaway a belt to three of my readers!!
To enter, you should be following me via Google Connect (on sidebar). Just leave a comment below telling me which of the belts, you’d choose if you won. It’s that easy.
Rules: Open to U.S. residents only, must be 18 years or older to enter, only one entry per person, you must submit correct contact information, you only have 24 hours to claim your prize upon notification, winner will be chosen using Random.org, and giveaway ends 09/18/11 12 p.m. PST.

I am in LOVE with the Anna Scholz ‘White Label Collection’ Autumn/Winter 2011 look book. The backdrop is Montefiascone, Italy. It’s sooooo romantic! Shot by designer Anna Scholz’ brother Jonas, this look book is very reminiscent of Sofia Loren. I’ve been to Italy and this makes me want to go back! Oh and her designs are gorgeous as always.
When you think of natural beauty products, you have to think of The Body Shop. They have been creating products with natural ingredients for years. All they want to do is “enhance your natural beauty and express your unique personality.” I’m all for beauty products with us in mind. And I love trying out new products with values like this.
We believe there is only one way to be beautiful, nature’s way.
I had a chance to try out five new products below.
1. 100% Natural Lip Roll-On: This lipgloss is mint-a-licious. It goes on nice and cool, with it’s metal roll-on ball. And it makes your lips glossy. Available now.
2. Hemp Moisturising Hand Wash: If you like the smell of hemp, then this is definitely your kind of hand wash. It is moisturizing and it’s made with Community Fair-Trade hemp seed oil. The scent does last for a while too. Available October 2011.
3. Almond Hand & Nail Butter: You already know how I feel about body butter, well this is made especially for your hands and nails. It smells so yummy and goes on nice and thick. It is made with sweet almond oil and Community Fair-Trade brazil nut oil. Available October 2011.
4. Extra Virgin Minerals Foundation: Any product with the word “mineral” it, doesn’t catch my attention. I’m afraid it will be too light and not provide coverage. This foundation was light, but it did cover. And it left a dewy fresh look. Available September 2011.
5. Wild Rose Hand Cream: I’m going to be honest, I’m not a fan of anything rose scented. In fact, I originally didn’t want to try it. But, I tried a little bit and it’s not overwhelming at all. It smells like an actual rose, with a powdery finishing scent. This is made with rosehip oil and Community Fair Trade brazil nut oil. Available October 2011.
The Body Shop Rainforest Radiance Hair Butter (Available starting October 2011): Yay for hair butter!! I finally wanted to try and I did. It wasn’t as thick as I thought it would be, but that didn’t matter. It still made my hair soft. I used Rainforest Radiance “sourced from the seed of the pracaxi tree which grows organically in the Amazonian rainforest, a few drops of this oil turns even the most difficult hair into manageable, shiny strands, boosting softness and helping you style and comb your hair easily.”

Do I even need to explain how much I love shoes and how much I love buying shoes?Who knows how much I’ve spent over the past year! I’ve been thinking that maybe I’ve been taking my shoe purchasing for granted. That’s why I’m hosting my very first fundraiser!
Starting today until December 1, 2011, my goal is to raise $1000 for the non-profit organization, Soles4Souls.
Soles4Souls® is one of the fastest-growing charities in North America. We have donated over 15 million pairs of shoes to people in need – both in the U.S. and around the world. Soles4Souls partners with your local shoe retailers, footwear brands, and thousands of Non-profit organizations, such as homeless shelters, churches and civic groups…and individuals just like you.
I have even pledged to not purchase one pair of shoes during the entire 90 days of the fundraiser. I’m already jonesing for some killer heels!!
Did you know $1 will provide a pair of shoes to someone in need? I know!
Now, I need your help. I’d love if you could visit my fundraising page and donate. Anything will help. If you can’t…I will ask that you please share my page via Twitter or Facebook. That would mean so much too me.
