Unlike most of you fashionistas out there, I cant always wear a stunning 5-inch high heel. Sometimes, I need to wear flats. I blame it on 5 years of wearing military combat boots. So, when I want to dress up and I know I’m going to doing a lot of walking, I want a shoe that will still stand out. Especially with the holidays coming up. Last month, No.1 plus-size apparel brand JMS/Just My Size hosted a fashion show in New York City. They unveiled their holiday styles and even previewed their spring and summer fashions. The models strutted down the runway in colorful styles accented with metallic, lace, and beaded embellishments. Sold at Walmart, each style was priced below $25! Just take a look for yourself and you might notice a few fellow bloggers in the audience.
I was given the opportunity to ask Maria Teza, director/general manager of JMS, a few questions about the event, plus size fashion, and the JMS brand.
Q. What was your favorite moment from the fashion show in NYC? My favorite moment from the fashion show in NYC was seeing the looks come out on our beautiful plus-size models whose silhouettes represent a range of real women. It is important to us as a brand to show our clothes on truly plus-size women.
Q. What were some of your favorite pieces from that show? My favorites include the embossed velvet boyfriend shirt and black tee paired with our seamed legging. For work, it’s the Solution Pant with printed tank and cocoon jacket that always looks polished and professional. And the dresses are fantastic.
Q. What did you learn from the bloggers who attended the event? We learned just how informed and passionate about plus size fashion these bloggers are. They really engaged with our design team to address what they feel works in plus size fashion and what opportunities exist.
The intent of the Just My Size Style Symposium is to look for new and exciting ways to connect with the plus-size woman, and to provide her with the information and resources she wants. We know the Just My Size woman is an avid online user. She goes online for information and to tap into a community.
Q. What makes JMS different from other plus retailers? Just My Size is dedicated to the plus-size woman. Everything we design is expressly for her, and each silhouette is developed specifically with her body shape in mind. Also, the Just My Size senior design team is plus, so we get it. We understand her fit and style needs at a very personal level.
Q. Who is the JMS woman? The JMS woman is confident and comfortable because JMS clothing gives her great-fitting, stylish options to make her look and feel terrific!
Q. What do you think is the biggest misconception the public has about plus size fashion? Do I have to limit it to one!
One of the biggest misconceptions if that you can’t find style at a value. That is simply not true, and JMS is a great example of that. We have great basics, terrific trend-right pieces, as well as items that mix and match to create entire wardrobes—all at a tremendous value.
Another misconception is that plus size fashion is for women that aren’t that interested in or who don’t demand fashionable and stylish clothing.
Q. What can we expect from JMS in the future and the upcoming collections? For Winter/Holiday, our theme is “soft luxe” with an influx of soft fabrics in rich, vibrant colors such as purple, ruby red and teal. We’re combining these soft fabrics with beautiful prints, including animal prints and feminine florals, and adding in touches of lace and metallics. The bottoms are slim – jeggings, leggings and slim leg pants all designed with her shape in mind.
Heading into 2011, our collection for Spring is fresh and bright. There beautiful shades of pinks, corals and blues that we’ve paired with neutrals in khaki and loden. We expect the military influence to be big for Spring, so we’ve translated that trend into pants with cargo pockets, tabs and brass accents.
Summer has a fun, Moroccan beat with vibrant colors and touches of macrame, wood beading and lace. We’re introducing gauze fabrics that are very light and easy to wear in a beautiful collection of versatile summer dresses in different lengths.

This week, this dress is courtesy of ME! I was shopping at Ross (one of my bargainsita faves) for a dress to wear on New Year’s Eve and I saw this beauty below!
It’s an R&M Richards (size 24 only!) and it retails for $79, but Ross is selling it for $29. They didn’t have my size (boo!), but I couldn’t let it go. I felt that someone should have it. I’m sorry, but the pictures do not do this dress justice. It really sparkles and would make a fab NYE dress! Read below for details on how to enter!

When do you consider jewelry to be a piece of art? Does it have to stand out? Make a statement? Catch every passerby’s attention? When I wear a piece of jewelry I would like it to do all of the above. Sometimes, I’m not so brave. But, I’m about to change that. I will now be on the lookout for those special pieces. Here are a few that have made the cut. Most are designer and are out of my price range, but I can sure use them as inspiration. Which one is your fave?

What I found out: Every time I use this I get a whiff of that baby oil fragrance, without it being overbearing (that reminds me of a baby’s bottom). The body wash seems a little “watered-down” so I was concerned that it wouldn’t lather up right. I was wrong; it lathers up like any other luxurious body wash. It doesn’t leave any residue or that baby oil greasy feel, which I loved. And it definitely made my skin feel softer after 2 weeks of using it.
