Maybe we should call it Video Thursday around here! Here’s one from Torrid featuring my girl Denise Bidot. She’s super sweet and beautiful! Love this girl. You should definitely check her out. It’s a behind the scenes look at their spring collection. Which look is your fave?
Carmakoma, an amazing a retailer out of Denmark, has debuted another film to empower the curvy woman. “Boost Your carma” features a modern day Marilyn Monroe in their Spring/Summer 2011 designs.
Size is a number – confidence a choice
The new film ”Boost your carma” is a vivid illustration of the tendency that curvy women all over the world no longer will accept the perception that beauty equals skinny. In an aesthetical manner the film breaks with prejudice concerning body image and attitude for women in plus sizes.
The film is created as a visual collage of feelings, states of mind, actions and expressions in a celebration of the curvy woman. Through classical and iconic fashion frames in the characteristic Helmuth Newton style the curvy main character is portrayed as a modern Marilyn Monroe. – A pioneer who is not afraid to use her femininity in her stride forwards. Through an observing and sensual camera posture the film disturbs our perceptions of the beautiful woman and the ideal body and plays on references from the film “the perfect human” by the Danish film maker Jørgen Leth.
”The main character in the film is the curvy woman of today. She feels free in her body, uninhibited by other people’s opinions. With an understated decadence she is playing with the forbidden showing her bold femininity and her urge for life in a sophisticated and extremely sexy manner,” says Heidie Lykke and Angelica Weiss, the two women behind the film and the commitment to its message.
Here are few of my favorite Carmakoma pieces. I’m such a sucker for the all-black look!
Hey last minute shoppers…I tried my best to stay away from giving you gift ideas. But, this Christmas lover couldn’t help herself. I found a few items for that special person on your list all under $40! Yes, a true bargainista always finds her deals, even during the holidays. Hmmm…maybe this is my wish list. What do you think? Which item would you take home?
You know as well as I do, that finding the perfect bra is torture! It can not only be annoying, but it can be expensive and time consuming. I have been on the hunt for a wireless bra, that was not only affordable, but that actually “held up” its end of the bargain…if you know what I mean. And by that I mean, the bra has to offer great support. Duh!
I’ve had enough with wearing under-wire bras all day with the uncomfortable wire poking me! I don’t mind a couple of hours, but all day…not anymore.
Since, I am already a fan of Cacique Intimates, I’ve decided to try their Smooth Satin No-Wire Bra. Besides, they were having a BOGO sale and I couldn’t miss out on that. I purchased the black and cafe mocha colors. The overall ratings and reviews on the web site were pretty positive. And now I know why.
Yes, this is my first wire-free bra I’ve worn since my training bra days and I was really worried about the support. But, now I know I have nothing to worry about. This is a very supportive and comfortable full coverage bra. I will admit that the first time I wore it there was a little irritation from the adjusters (?) on the back of the bra straps, but that went away after the first wear.
The slightly padded cups give the breast a natural shape that nature intended. The bra straps don’t dig into shoulders because of the wide padded straps and there is plenty of coverage in the back. I think this would make a great t-shirt bra, since it’s pretty invisible under your clothing.
I have made this my all day bra and I don’t regret it one bit. I will admit, if you’re looking for an “uplifting” bra, then this isn’t it. Because there is no under wire, you don’t get the same effect. But, this isn’t your 1950’s soft cup bra either.
** I was not compensated for this review. All of the above is my true and honest opinion.

I love the recent arrival of the U.K. and Australian plus size fashion retailers coming to the U.S. I had the opportunity to review a few pieces from Simply Be a few months ago and I really loved the style and quality of the clothes. Tonight I just kinda peeked my head over there and I was reminded once again why I love them! If anyone cares, I want all of these pieces.
I swear these holidays are going to make me broke! All I want is a little sparkle this holiday season. Is that too much to ask? Maybe a little bling to brighten things up? I am a true lover of shopping. Not just spending money, although that’s fun too. But, I am completely happy “just looking” in a mall filled to the brim with fashion, beauty products, shoes, and accessories. Even without buying a thing. I’m not talking about window shopping. I need to actually feel the merchandise and check out its quality. And not just plus size stores either; I make my way into any retail space. Until a few weeks ago.
I was at a Los Angeles area shopping mall and was stopped dead in my tracks before I even stepped foot into this high end boutique. It’s like I just froze. I couldn’t walk in.
Maybe it was the sales associates who eyed me up and down as I peered into the store. I know I haven’t felt this way since I was a teen. I was visiting my uncle who worked at Barneys New York in Beverly Hills. There was this sense of knowing that you just don’t belong in there. I have always prided myself of being a confident curvy woman. But, how could I be intimidated? What was I worried about? Not being able to afford anything in there or just the fact that I don’t fit into their clothes?
Then I started to think. Maybe I’m just worried about being judged by those in the store. Whether it was the discriminating sales associates or the platinum credit card carrying customer, no one wants to be judged. But, after all these years of curvy shopping…why now? Am I the only one who has felt this way?
I haven’t been back since, but I know that the only way to get over it is to just walk in and act like I own the place. I’m not going to let this “shopping while fat” get to me. I have as much right as anyone else to be in that store. Maybe my confidence did take a little dip that day, for whatever reason. But, I know in my heart that I can’t I let someone elses prejudices stop me from being who I am.
Remember to “Stay curvaliscious, confident, and courageous.”
