ASOS Curve and The Collar

As a child, I was enrolled in an elementary school with a strict dress code. Girls could only wear skirts and dresses (no shorter than your knees of course) with collars or a collared shirt. I did this from kindergarten until the 5th grade. So, when I noticed ASOS Curve’s love for collars, I immediately had flashbacks. LOL…OK it’s not that bad.

I did notice their mini-obsession with the collar. Which you can find embellished, Peter Pan style, scalloped, and even color blocked.

I’m curious…are you a collar fan?

Bottoms Up

I’m so easily distracted! I was researching for one thing and decided to write about all of these cool pants, leggings, and skirts I saw online tonight. These are definitely not your every day bottoms. And they’re a great way to mix things up.

We have ASOS Curve, Forever 21, Torrid, and City Chic pieces below. I’m kind of eyeing all of the different leggings and the shorts. Didn’t think there were would be shorts available during this time of the year, but you could always pair them with tights. Now that I think about it, that would be really cute!

Would you rock any of the bottoms below? Which one is your favorite?

Style Trend: Pleats

What do we know about pleats? We know it’s defined as a “type of fold formed by doubling fabric back upon itself and securing it in place.” But, did you know there are 11 types of pleats? I didn’t either!

All I do know, is that when I went shopping the other day, I saw a lot of pleated pieces. Oh, and I’m not a big fan of ironing pleats. Too tedious! But, I do love the way they look. I’m kind of eyeing the burgundy Evans pleated maxi skirt (#11).

So, what do you think?

Are pleats the way to go?

Style Trend: Bold Knits & Stripes

Old Navy $29.50
Old Navy $29.50

With only a few weeks of summer left, I’m already craving sweaters. Fall is calling me and so are these knits with their bold stripes.

Sorry summer lovers, but it’s going to cold soon and I can’t wait to bundle up.

Weather it’s a cardigan, poncho, or cropped sweater-bold stripes are looking really chic for the fall. They can be paired with a wide leg or skinny jean and a great pair of boots or flats. Ohhhhh a chunky necklace too! Sorry, fashion makes me excited. LOL.

Awwww….hurry up and get cold already!

Are bold stripes in your fashion future?

Style Trend: 1950’s Style with Dorothy Perkins

Ever since the television hit Mad Men came on the air, I’ve been eyeing all 1950’s fashion. Even Banana Republic has introduced a Mad Men inspired line. For a second, I’ll imagine I’m Christina Hendricks as Joan Harris.

I really want a dress now! And I can’t buy from Banana Republic, because they don’t carry my size. Then I remembered Dorothy Perkins carried a lot of 50’s style dresses and they have sizes up to a US 18.

Don’t you just love how the silhouette defines the waist and that flared skirt? Great for showing off those curves! They remind me of I Love Lucy! Ok, These dresses  might be shorter than the average lengths of dresses back then. Regardless, I’m still “madly” in love!

What do you think about 1950’s inspired dresses?

Style Trend: The Kimono

The Kimono, a traditional Japanese garment, has always inspired fashion trends. Kimono actually means “a thing put on.” And derives from ki “wear” and mono “thing.” Just a little fashion lesson for ya.

It’s normally a long length robe, with wide sleeves and wide sash at the waist. And it was a definite inspiration for these pieces I found below at Style369.com, Evans.co.uk, and DorothyPerkins.com.

They feature the the wide sleeves and some even have a sash as the waist. It’s definitely not your traditional Kimono, it’s just a trend inspired by it. I’m dying over the Dorothy Perkin’s Orange kimono dress!

Are you feeling the kimono inspiration?

Style Trend: Summer Scarves

Accessories are an essential piece to any outfit. One of my favorite accessories is the multi-use scarf. Love it in all materials! This week alone I bought 2 scarves! And as I was perusing my fave blogs, I came across a few outfit posts where they accessorized with a scarf. Yes, I know it’s summer, but you can still wear them! Just make sure to stay away from the heavy materials like 100% pure wool and cashmere. I tend to lean towards the silk, cotton, and linen. FYI…I want these!

I love thrifting scarves too! They are really inexpensive and can be used in so many different ways. Have you run out of ways to wear your favorite scarf? I found this cool article from Refinery 29 “4 New Ways to Wear a Scarf.” Click on the image for detailsl.

So, what do you think about accessorizing with a scarf this summer?

Style Trend: Ruffled to Tiers

My little celebs are always looking so cute! I found this ruffled and tiered trio on one of my fave sites JustJared.com.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba, and Claire Danes, partying it up in France. What a life!

I was immediately in love with their dresses. Ruffled and tiered dresses are pretty hot right now. As you’ve seen all the bloggers in that gorgeous black asymmetrical ruffled dress from the Asos Curve line. Here’s Jeniese wearing it on her blog, The Jenesaisquoi, in all it’s glory.

You know I had to go out and find a few dresses to satisfy my fashion trend craving. Enjoy the ruffles and tiers.

Brighten it Up!

TIME/CNN/People/Fortune 2010 White House Correspondents' Dinner Pre-Party

Chopard Celebrates 150 Years Of Excellence - Arrivals

These lovely ladies have definitely inspired me to get some color back into my wardrobe! Jessica Simpson and Gabourey Sidibe simply glowed at the TIME/CNN/People/Fortune 2010 White House Correspondents’ Dinner Pre-Party. While Christina Ricci made me green with envy at Chopard Celebrates 150 Years Of Excellence party. But, you’re not going to find me running around L.A. in a cocktail dress or fancy gown. Sorry.

I’m going to stay closer to my price range…like Old Navy! One of my favorite stores to shop at. Here are three spring/summer alternatives, all under $40! And if the weather gets chilly, throw on a cardigan or wrap. Simple, easy, and cheap.

Style Trend: Leopard Print

Grrrrrrrrrrr…its all about leopard prints! That was my sad attempt of some kind of cat growl…lol. I’ve seen tons of chicas wearing it lately and this sexy print will pretty much always be in style. It’s fun and adventurous…just don’t be afraid to wear it. If you think it’s too much, just try adding an accessory with this print to a solid black outfit. Bring out the feisty gal!
