Style Trend: Polka Dots

It’s polka dot time again! Although the black with white dots color scheme is the original, you’re not limited to just those colors. Let’s get a little adventurous and try something a little different. You can find polka dots in lots of different color combos and sizes-from tiny to big. And if you’re one of those that doesn’t like to wear prints, you can grab an accessory like a shoe, scarf, handbag, and even an umbrella. No excuses! 1.MICHAEL Michael Kors via Saks Fifth Avenue 2.Ashley Stewart 3.Charlotte Russe 4.Sonia by Sonia Rykiel via Net-a-Porter 5.ModCloth 6.Muze via Nordstrom 7.Stop … Continue reading

Style Trend: Pleats

What do we know about pleats? We know it’s defined as a “type of fold formed by doubling fabric back upon itself and securing it in place.” But, did you know there are 11 types of pleats? I didn’t either! All I do know, is that when I went shopping the other day, I saw a lot of pleated pieces. Oh, and I’m not a big fan of ironing pleats. Too tedious! But, I do love the way they look. I’m kind of eyeing the burgundy Evans pleated maxi skirt (#11). So, what do you think? Are pleats the way … Continue reading

Although it’s scorching here in Los Angeles, I’m still thinking of and waiting for fall. I want to wear my City Chic faux leather a.k.a. leatherette motorcycle jacket. Style Trend: Bold Knits & Stripes

With only a few weeks of summer left, I’m already craving sweaters. Fall is calling me and so are these knits with their bold stripes. Sorry summer lovers, but it’s going to cold soon and I can’t wait to bundle up. Weather it’s a cardigan, poncho, or cropped sweater-bold stripes are looking really chic for the fall. They can be paired with a wide leg or skinny jean and a great pair of boots or flats. Ohhhhh a chunky necklace too! Sorry, fashion makes me excited. LOL. Awwww….hurry up and get cold already! Are bold stripes in your fashion future? … Continue reading

Style Trend: 1950′s Style with Dorothy Perkins

Ever since the television hit Mad Men came on the air, I’ve been eyeing all 1950′s fashion. Even Banana Republic has introduced a Mad Men inspired line. For a second, I’ll imagine I’m Christina Hendricks as Joan Harris. I really want a dress now! And I can’t buy from Banana Republic, because they don’t carry my size. Then I remembered Dorothy Perkins carried a lot of 50′s style dresses and they have sizes up to a US 18. Don’t you just love how the silhouette defines the waist and that flared skirt? Great for showing off those curves! They remind … Continue reading

Woman Wearing Kimono and Obi

Style Trend: The Kimono

The Kimono, a traditional Japanese garment, has always inspired fashion trends. Kimono actually means “a thing put on.” And derives from ki “wear” and mono “thing.” Just a little fashion lesson for ya. It’s normally a long length robe, with wide sleeves and wide sash at the waist. And it was a definite inspiration for these pieces I found below at Style369.com, Evans.co.uk, and DorothyPerkins.com. They feature the the wide sleeves and some even have a sash as the waist. It’s definitely not your traditional Kimono, it’s just a trend inspired by it. I’m dying over the Dorothy Perkin’s Orange kimono dress! … Continue reading

Style Trend: Summer Scarves

Accessories are an essential piece to any outfit. One of my favorite accessories is the multi-use scarf. Love it in all materials! This week alone I bought 2 scarves! And as I was perusing my fave blogs, I came across a few outfit posts where they accessorized with a scarf. Yes, I know it’s summer, but you can still wear them! Just make sure to stay away from the heavy materials like 100% pure wool and cashmere. I tend to lean towards the silk, cotton, and linen. FYI…I want these! I love thrifting scarves too! They are really inexpensive and … Continue reading

Style Trend: Ruffled to Tiers

My little celebs are always looking so cute! I found this ruffled and tiered trio on one of my fave sites JustJared.com. Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba, and Claire Danes, partying it up in France. What a life! I was immediately in love with their dresses. Ruffled and tiered dresses are pretty hot right now. As you’ve seen all the bloggers in that gorgeous black asymmetrical ruffled dress from the Asos Curve line. Here’s Jeniese wearing it on her blog, The Jenesaisquoi, in all it’s glory. You know I had to go out and find a few dresses to satisfy my … Continue reading

Brighten it Up!

These lovely ladies have definitely inspired me to get some color back into my wardrobe! Jessica Simpson and Gabourey Sidibe simply glowed at the TIME/CNN/People/Fortune 2010 White House Correspondents’ Dinner Pre-Party. While Christina Ricci made me green with envy at Chopard Celebrates 150 Years Of Excellence party. But, you’re not going to find me running around L.A. in a cocktail dress or fancy gown. Sorry. I’m going to stay closer to my price range…like Old Navy! One of my favorite stores to shop at. Here are three spring/summer alternatives, all under $40! And if the weather gets chilly, throw on … Continue reading
