I’m Loving…ASOS Curve Pants

I need to go shopping. Like, right now. I have this urge to go shopping so bad, but without $$$ all I can do is window shop on the internet. I’ve been eyeing ASOS Curve pants for a while now, especially the cropped pants. Why do they always have to have such great stuff when I’m broke? Grrrr…guess I’ll just look.

Did Someone Say SALE?

Size? What Size?

What is a true fashionista? We all have our own definitions, but one word I always come to is “unlimited.” A true fashionista has no fashion limits. She will try on anything, regardless of the what the label says. “What? The label say’s it’s a large? So, what! I like it and I’m going to see if it fits.” Actually I know a few who don’t even look at sizes.

I thought of this yesterday, as I was shopping of course.

If you haven’t met my friend Ivory of  the blog Ivory Jinelle, then you’re missing out. Not only is she a true fashionista, but she’s an awesome person to go shopping with (You’ll be seeing her a lot more around here). I love her outlook on fashion and her passion for not fitting the mold.

She’s one of the first curvy ladies, I met that didn’t “stay inside the lines.” When we go shopping, she goes straight to the ‘straight sizes.’ No pun intended. I’m always like…”Hey, the plus section is over here.”

Today, because of her and a few other curvy fashion inspirations online, I do not fear walking into the “straight sizes.” Actually it’s more of a personal challenge for me. As some of you might have read, for a long time, I was intimidated to walk into “straight size” stores or departments. Not anymore and for that I thank you…true fashionistas.

Here are a few straight size lines/brands that I’ve found. Make sure you try them on, some of their pieces are hit or miss. And remember I’m a size XXL or 16/18.

Rachel Rachel Roy

I tend to stick to her size XL, preferably any of her draped pieces.

Rachel Pally

Yes, I know she has the White Label Collection, but her straight sizes run pretty big. I have a dress that’s a large and it’s till big on me.

Tart Collections

I tried on a size large tank yesterday and it fit perfectly, but it was stretchy.

Free People

If you’re going to buy here, aim for the over-sized tops. I bought two yesterday in a large, but they do offer XL in a few pieces.

These are only a few brands and designers…

What “straight size” brands do you tend to gravitate to?

My New Love Affair with H by Halston

I’ve been looking for a magenta shoe and I’ve found it. Say hello to my new love affair. I really don’t need many words to describe the love for a shoe. It’s something you either understand or you don’t. And doesn’t a picture speak a thousand words? Just look at these gorgeous H by Halston pumps/wedges I bought at Baker’s yesterday. Yes, they were on sale. Sorry, they aren’t on the web site. I think I actually drooled when I saw the sole on these shoes.

HSN & QVC Wish List

Where are all my home shoppers at? Flip on the television and check out HSN and QVC for a few surprises. I just bought a pair of Levis Curve I.D. jeans on HSN, which I love! It was my first purchase with them, but with items like these, it won’t be my last. I’ve got my eye on these beauties below, especially that Nick Chavez set. I love that product!

What’s been your favorite item you’ve bought from QVC or HSN?

Torrid’s 10th Birthday Bash

It’s hard to believe Torrid is 10 years old. On Sunday night, I was invited to attend one of their birthday parties at the Brea, California store. After the mall closed, we were allowed in the store to shop, mingle, eat yummy mini-cupcakes, and take photos. There were raffles ( we didn’t win) and  music (thanks DJ Dazzler). Ivory and I found a lot of things we loved, but I only bought two rings, which were “Buy One, Get 1/2 Off.” Can’t beat that deal. If you look at the photo below, you’ll see they even had live models on display in the windows. They were too cute!

Why You Should Love Yard Sales

I’ve been going to yard sales (a.k.a rummage sales and garage sales) since I was little kid and I’ve even hosted a few. And now that summer is almost here, there are going to be tons of them and I can’t wait. This morning I attended one held by Stylist Reah Norman. Now, if you’re going to attend a yard sale, you definitely want to go to one held by a stylist. Reah is a close friend of mine, so I made sure to go and support her. Oh…I also wanted to do some shopping. I walked out with three tops, a dress, a scarf, a bracelet, and a pair of shoes for $35! I was definitely a happy shopper.

After I left, I started thinking how awesome yard sales are. If you call yourself a bargainista and you’ve never been to one…well…let’s just say you’re not really a full fledged bargainista. LOL. Here are my reasons why you should love yard sales.

  • Low Low Prices-The whole idea of going to yard sales is to buy items at low prices. These are things the person hosting it doesn’t want anymore, so you might even have a chance to negotiate on prices as well.
  • You’re Going Green-When you buy an item, you’re saving it from going into the landfill. Therefore you’re reusing it and that makes the planet happy.
  • Vintage Finds-You never know what you’ll come across at yard sales, especially if it’s an estate sale. People have found unique and valuable items just by rummaging through boxes people pull out of their garages.
  • No Pressure-It’s all about leisurely shopping, just walking around and taking your time. And no one will make you feel bad if you leave without buying anything.
  • Happiness-You’re giving an article of clothing a second chance to make you look fashionable. And in the end,  that leads to happy clothes and a happier you.
What do you love the most about yard sales?

Handbag Delight: Melie Bianco

Melie Bianco is a handbag line based out of Los Angeles and offers what they call “Affordable Luxury.” You won’t find anything over $100. I recently purchased one of their bags at the Sassy City Chicks event. It’s this amazing clutch that I’ve only used once and I can’t wait to use again. If you’re looking to add some color into your life with a handbag, just look up. Oh…and if you live in the Los Angeles area, you’ll be happy to know they are holding a sample sale on April 30th at their headquarters in Pico Rivera. Go here for details. I don’t think I’m going to be able to go, so instead I’m just going to sit here and drool over these.

The Shopping Diaries: Indecisive Shopper

Oh yeah that’s me posing in my awesome Curvy Divas Rock tee at the recent Kurvee event. And yeah I think I’m sexy…LOL. Ok, I was just being silly and had to take the photo opportunity. While I was at Kurvee, I realized something. I’ve become a really indecisive shopper lately. I didn’t know what to buy. I guess that’s a lot better than being an impulse shopper, right?

What really confirmed it for me was a shopping trip I took with my mom last week. She wanted to buy me something for my birthday and I could not make up my mind on what I wanted. It was kind of frustrating. I actually waited until we went to the very last store to get something. FYI, I ended up with a pair of gladiator sandals and jewelery from Avenue.

I don’t know what’s going on, but now that I think about it, it’s been a lot easier on my wallet. But, when I do buy something, I just end up returning it because I bought it last minute. Grrr…

Has this ever happened to any of you? I consider myself a shopper and I need to fix it (LOL). Giveaway!

Calvein Klein, Michael Kors, Rachel Pally, and Diane Von Fursteberg are only a few of the designers available on This jewel of a sample sale site guarantees women’s designer labels at 70% ! That’s a steal, if you ask me. I love that they use models that represent different shapes and body sizes. And their sizes range from 0/XS to 16/XL. My friend just purchased a Marc Jacobs dress from them at Sassy City Chicks, for an amazing price. I was actually looking at this Rachel Pally design, it would make a great spring dress.
