Lingerie.com Review: The Sexy Halloween Costume

Although there’s a mini-heat wave hitting Los Angeles, I am still thinking of all things fall; and yes that includes Halloween.

I love Halloween! Every year I try to be creative and dress up as something different, but as most of us curvy girls know, it’s hard to find a costume that truly fits and is sexy at the same time.

Another thing I worry about is the material that these costumes are made of. Most of the time they’re flimsy or just look cheap. I was pleasantly surprised to find this costume to be pretty good quality. The “corset” is made of black crushed velvet and it stretches (yay!). I just wish there was a little more coverage in the chest area. Being that I am pretty big on top, I need to cover them up. I don’t want the hubby to be a jealous pirate!

Now, I’m looking for the sexy accessories to dress up this costume. Maybe in the future they can throw in a sword or hat. Just an idea. If you’re looking for a costume and you’re on a budget make sure you take a look at Lingerie.com’s sexy Halloween sale!

And from now until October 31st, my curvy readers get 10% off any and all costumes on Lingerie.com. Just enter the code “CurvesandCostumes” at checkout.

Will you make this Halloween a sexy one?

OOTD: Torrid Review III

When it comes to stripes, I’m not the world’s biggest fan. I think I might own two pieces of clothing with a striped design. So, when Torrid sent me this dress, I wasn’t sure I would like it. Once, again I really need to stop being so fatshion judgemental. Today, I wore the Navy Striped Belted 2-Fer Dress ($58.00) courtesy of Torrid, and I will no longer disapprove of stripes again.

When you first touch this dress, you can’t help but love the material; it is very soft. The navy and heather gray go so well together. These are two separate pieces, but they are attached at the shoulder area. And there is a black faux belt attached at the waist. I was worried it would ride up on me or the dress would fly open in the front, but it did neither of those things.

I was also amazed at how comfy and cool I was in this dress. We had a warm day today, and I wasn’t bothered at all. I think it could be really easy to dress this down with a pair of cute sandals as well. I think the thing I liked about this dress the most was the compliment I got while I was out and about. Thanks sales associate at Staples! Btw…the shoes are by Madden Girl.

When was the last time you looked at a piece of clothing, that you loved, but thought “I can’t wear that!” And then you’re on to the next item. For whatever reasons it may be…color, style, body issues. Let’s just push that all aside. How do you know you can’t wear it unless you try it on?

For some reason, that’s what I thought when I saw this top I’m wearing here. My first instinct is to throw a sweater over it, but it’s hot here! Then I tried it on and I loved it. Courtesy of Torrid, the Black Butterfly Tube Top ($38) was not as scary as I imagined it. It was comfortable and it didn’t show my cleavage to the world. It didn’t fall down like a lot of tube tops do. I didn’t know if the (faux) leather and studded design was my thing, but I guess it is now.

I also wore Torrid’s Source of Wisdom virtual Stretch Grey Skinny Jean ($52), also courtesy of Torrid. Now, these jeans fit differently than the other pair I reviewed. The had a lot more stretch in them. I feel like I almost could have worn a 16R in these. I really love grey denim and have that vintage and faded look to them. I just wish I would have worn a belt because they were falling a little. Also, the label on the waistband was itching my back. But, they were comfy as well.

You know I’m not a big fan of over accessorizing, especially with the top having a lot of detail, so I just wore a pair of black earrings. I paired it all with my trusty gladiator sandals. Overall, I’m pretty happy with these pieces. I just have to throw these jeans in the dryer and I think it will be perfect.

BTW…that lipstick is the Wet n’Wild #511B lipstick I told you about in the video.

OOTD: Torrid Review Part I

Last night was date night with the hubby. I had the pleasure of wearing a few things courtesy of Torrid. I wore this Ivory Asymmetrical Ruffle top ($28) and the Source of Wisdom Virtual Stretch Distressed Skinny Jean (on sale $42). This photo was taken after a delicious steak dinner, I should of thought about this before wearing a skinny jean.

The ruffle top was extremely soft and comfy, but it was a little big on me. I usually wear a US size 18 and this was a Torrid size 2. I think the size 1 would have been perfect. I love the frills on the top, it added a very feminine touch to the outfit.

If you’re looking for a vintage inspired skinny jean, then you should really check these out. The denim is a great wash and I love the vintage touches. I was worried about the size when I was putting them on, I didn’t think they were going to fit. But, once I zipped them up, they fit like a glove. The jeans are made of this Virtual Stretch fabric, so they were very comfy. There are faux front pockets and I wish the waist was a little higher. But I loved how they fit me and I felt like they gave my butt some shape.

I didn’t want to over-accessorize because of the ruffles on the top, so I wore earrings my bff gave me and Unlisted wedges.

I’m curious if any of you have tried these jeans yet? How did you like them?

Review: ASSETS Unbelievable Underwear Super Control

To use shape wear or to not use shape wear…that is the question.

Well, it is the question among us body loving curvy gals! I’ve heard the debate and honestly I’m kind of confused by it.

I tell myself that I love my body in all of its glory, but I do own a pair of Spanx (pre-fat girl body acceptance) and I received this pair of ASSETS Unbelievable Underwear Super Control ($18) at the BlogHer Expo.

I was very curious to try them out and after having them for a couple of weeks, I wore them. Yes, I was still fat after I put them on. They didn’t magically erase any pounds and I was still a size 18.

But, it did help because I was wearing a dress and I didn’t have to worry about the dreaded chub rub. I can’t stand that darn chub rub! Don’t get me wrong, I did notice I was wearing shape wear, but it wasn’t like I was instantly a straight size.

The underwear did smooth out the bumpy areas and I loved how they stayed put. No rolling down or creeping up here. And there were no panty lines; that’s always a bonus. I will wear them again, but only for those tight dresses.

So, to answer the great shape wear debate question…I can’t. It’s up to you and your personal preference. But, I would like to know what you think, anonymously of course. Take my little poll below.

Lane Bryant Review – Plus Win & Save!

New York, New York…you stole my heart. I love this city and lucky for me the 2010 BlogHer conference was held here. I had so much fun making new friends, networking, and learning from the best in the blogging world. Plus there was so much swag! Amazing!

But, it wasn’t the perfect trip…let me briefly explain. My flight out of LAX was delayed and made me miss my connection. I was rebooked which delayed my arrival by 6 hours! I checked into the hotel and that night my laptop crashed. My cell phone battery was dying after only 30 minutes of being fully charged and the camera I borrowed didn’t work. I was having a tech nightmare. So, the photos you see are via my cell phone (after a new battery) and a small Kodak hand held camcorder. I apologize for the quality.

**BlogHer Recap: You already know I had an amazing time! Not only did I meet amazing women, but I had to the chance to get my makeup done at the P&G Home, I got tons of swag, and I met model Veronica Webb (very nice) and Bruce Jenner. I even took the time to talk to HauteLook, Shop Style, and White House Black Market about carrying extended sizes. ASSETS by Sara Blakely were on hand and we had a great conversation. Hopefully, I made great connections! Here’s a slideshow of some pics:
