Las Vegas is one hot city…like really hot. And when I know I’m traveling to a city with warmer weather, I always make sure to pack a maxi dress. They’re easy to pack and easy to dress up and down. Very versatile. And thanks to Torrid, I was able to take this Blue and White Mitered Striped Maxi ($54.50) dress with me to Sin City. Read more
No I didn’t “win it big” in Las Vegas. I know that’s always the first question you’re asked when you go to Sin City. In fact, I think I spent $1 gambling. I’m not even kidding! LOL! I never win, so why continue to give them my money? I did have a chance dress up a bit. Read more
It seems like we’re not going to get a break from this summer heat wave! Seriously people, it’s hot! And when it’s hot like this, I wish I could run around naked, buuuuut I won’t. I will try to wear something light and cool though. This is exactly what I tried to do with yesterday’s outfit. Read more
Have you ever heard the saying that the wrinkles or the lines on your face tell a story? Whether around your eyes, on your forehead, or on the corners of your smile they’ll be there as we age. Could it be from smiling? Frowning? Worrying? Celebrating? Will you remember what was happening in your life during those moments?
I look back and view my stretch marks in the same way.
As a pre-teen, I noticed my first stretch mark. It laid on the lower part of my back and I couldn’t stop looking at it. My mom said it was because I was growing. This made sense, I was a lot taller than a lot of my friends. And it was during this time I felt awkward and a little clumsy. Boys didn’t really look at me. And I’ll always remember who my first crush was.
As I continued to grow, so did the stretch marks. This time they were around my hip area. As a teenager, this pretty much stopped me from wearing swimsuits. I was very insecure, even though I was a mere 125lbs and 5’6. I don’t even think I knew what the word “confident” meant at this age. I did know I didn’t want to look like I did. I envied the pretty girls with the boyfriends.
In my 20′s, I noticed them in my waist area. I would lose weight, gain weight, lose weight, and gain weight. And would often beat myself up when I gained a few pounds. I was in the military and I was still trying to figure out who I was. I found myself trying very hard to fit their standards. During this time, I met my amazing hubby.
Today, I have stretch marks in areas I didn’t know we could get them. I’m not even going to go “there.” But, I will tell you I know when they first appeared and what was going on in my life at that time. I don’t hate them, in fact I embrace them. They remind me of the roads I’ve traveled. I’m thankful they will never go away. They tell me the story of my life.
What do your stretch marks tell you?
I can’t believe I’m actually going to write about this, but I felt the need to share and maybe make you laugh for a moment. Especially after reading an article about actor Octavia Spencer on The Ellen Show, where she admits that she wears triple Spanx during award’s season. Triple?
Well, you remember that outfit post I did where I was wearing the Queen Grace dress? This is it, if you didn’t read it. Let’s just say it was experimenting time.
One of the reasons I wasn’t able to wear that dress earlier was because of the tight fit (my fault). My hubby had to literally zip me into that beautiful dress. Of course I was already wearing one pair of Spanx, but I still had that pooch we all love.
Yes, yes…I know there is a great shape wear debate. You either wear it or you don’t. I wear it proudly. And I firmly stand my ground. It won’t make me lose weight, but it will smooth me out. Anyways, I know a 100lb woman who wears Spanx! It’s not just a fat girl thing.
Back to my story…I still had the pooch. That’s when I thought, hey…why don’t I throw on another pair just to see how it looks. You know…just for sh*ts and giggles.
After a quick struggle, I had successfully pulled on another pair…aaaaand I couldn’t breathe. And don’t get me started on sitting down or eating. You should have seen me trying to get into my car. LOL! I don’t know how Octavia wears three pairs!
I called my friend and proudly admitted that I was wearing two pairs of Spanx. Her response…”You can do that?” Apparently.
At the end of the night, I had to peel myself out and finally…I could breathe. It was glorious!
Now, I’m wondering, are you a two or three pair kind of woman?
Is this even common? Am I alone? Inquiring minds want to know!
I’m really not sad. LOL. I’m just loving this blue top! I bought this at a yard sale that was held by Stylist Reah Norman. Thanks Reah! It’s by Daniel Rainn and it has these amazing ruffles and pockets. You know how I feel about pockets. I wore it to a high school graduation last night. Which had a whopping 680 graduates by the way and it was in a sports arena! WOW.
Back to the outfit…I went simple with my jewelery, only because the color was so bold. My earrings are these cute little rhinestone bows I bought at Torrid and my bracelets are from Lane Bryant. My shoes are from the Kenneth Cole outlet. These suede wedges have a cool magenta stripe on the heel. The belt is from another top and I had to wear it because the top was a little big and I wanted to add some shape. I really liked this look, I’m guessing it was the color. It made me feel a little sassy! LOL
I was looking over some old outfit posts and I couldn’t help but notice how my style has evolved. I don’t follow any “rules” and I dress regardless of what people think. It’s how I feel in a garment that dictates my mood. For example, this Lovedrobe Crochet Neck Dress (£38.00) made me feel very flirty. Not that I was, but you know what I mean (LOL). The dress was a little too short for me, so I wore my Bali leggings underneath. My hubby was happy about that. I chose my trusty Nine West heels to wear out that night. And I accessorized with a beautiful ring from Avenue and my Lane Bryant bracelets.
This dress got me so many compliments! I love the ruffle hem and the crocheted neck. Two distinct design features that you wouldn’t normally think go together. And the crochet goes all the way around, while the ruffle hem is just in the front. The dress does have a tie in the back so you can adjust it and a black slip underneath the dress, so it’s not see through. I did get a size bigger than what I normally wear, bit it didn’t make too much of a difference, I just adjusted the tie in the back and I was set. Love it!
What do you wear on a sunny day in Los Angeles? A maxi dress! Not just any dress, but the Passion Flower Maxi (on sale $30) by City Chic. The Australian fashion retailer is really impressing me with the fit and quality of their designs. My hubby picked this dress and I’m so happy he did. It’s the perfect length for my 5’6 height. I really liked the slight draping in the front and the ruched band on the bust. My favorite part of the dress is the fact that it actually fit me in the chest area without falling down and being uncomfortable. I actually didn’t want to take the dress off, that’s how comfortable it is. Oh and I must point out that the shipping from City Chic is FREE and it got here in a few days. That makes me a happy shopper.
I accessorized this dress with my favorite pair of Nine West gladiator sandals, a coral ring from H&M, bracelets from Avenue, and a brass key necklace from Mindfulnest. I told you ladies I’m going to be a maxi dress wearing fool this spring and summer (LOL).
Ok…I look yucky and I’m not too happy with these photos, but they’ll do. I just wanted to show you the outfit I wore on Saturday, for our little gathering. This is the dress I bought at H&M. It is very roomy. It’s a large and I think it would fit anyone up to a size 22. This may be my new favorite dress for the summer and it has pockets! Yay! The great thing about this dress is the print and the colors. It can be worn so many different ways!

Once again, a fun weekend comes to an end. It sucks, but I guess I have to return to reality. Thanks a lot San Diego for making me fall in love with you. There is something about beach cities that I just can’t explain. When I visit them, I don’t want to leave. I fall more in love every single time.
San Diego welcomed me, my hubby, and one of my bff’s with open arms. We ate, slept, ate, shopped, drank, and ate. We even went swimming, thank goodness the outdoor pool was heated! It was a lot of fun. And I love that it’s only 2 1/2 hours from me. I am definitely going back soon.
I wore this outfit Friday night. It was a very casual outfit for a casual dinner in Old Town. Don’t mind the yellow hue of the pictures, I think it was the poor lighting in the hotel hallway.

If you’re a regular on this blog, then you should know how much I adore being comfy…remember…my number one rule. So, when Simply Be asked me choose a few things, I made sure to pick something that looked not only comfortable, but was a little different.
OK, first of all please do not mind the crazy bangs and my makeup free face. Lol. And I warn you that these are my lounge looks. I’ll have a dressier look for you soon! Promise.
I love the Frock & Frill Pageant Tee (#1)! I have gotten a lot of compliments on it and the quality is amazing. Super duper comfy. Then there’s the Acid Wash Zip Neck Top (#2) that goes amazingly well with leggings. Yes, I said acid wash! I haven’t worn that since I was a teen. I had to try it. Both tops can be worn many ways and I think that’s what I love the most about them.
Don’t forget Simply Be will be available to the U.S. online in July! It’s almost here!!
As I scoured the clearance, I found the Woven Insert Tee (see pic above) for only $8.45 in white!! I wore it on Saturday night to a romantic Italian dinner with my hubby. BTW this is so L.A…this is the resturaunt where the hostess was a contestant on America’s Next Top Model. Anywhoo…
This tee is so comfortable and the cotton is undeniably soft! Initially, I was worried that it might be too see through, but it wasn’t. I wore a nude bra underneath and I got the hubby’s approval. The length and fit is perfect. Congrats ASOS…you now have a new customer!
