Sneak Peek: Carmakoma AW 2012

Ooooohhhh…do I have something special for you ladies! It’s a VIP SNEAK PEEK into Carmakoma’s AW 2012 collection!! If you’re anything like me and you love a classic clean look with an edgy and sexy twist, then this collection is for you. I’m DYING over the leather leggings! Seriously HOT! OK, you know I love something if I’m using all caps over here.

Carmakoma is a Danish label if you’re wondering, yes all the way from Copenhagen. I especially love them because they’re using my good friend Fluvia Lacerda in their recent campaigns.

“Carmakoma women are strong, independent individuals denying to be subject to the opinions of others. They are not afraid of experimenting with their personal form of expression, but are open to change and always heading towards new experiences – determined to control their own destiny.”

This collection rocks with these amazing wrap skirts, polka dots and stripes, bold pieces, graphic prints, flowy pieces, and the leather leggings…oh the leather leggings!  They also have outerwear and menswear-inspired pieces. I can see myself wearing pretty much everything here.

This collection should be available online and in-store in August and their sizes range from U.S. 12-24.

I want to know what you think!

Will Carmakoma be on your shopping wish list?

The Shopping Diaries: Why so many shoes?

You’re in the shoe department and you see a pair that screams your name. What do you do? Do you run and hide? Or do you gravitate toward them like you’re being pulled in by their imaginary forces? Does your brain start calculating if you can afford them?

This is what I deal with every time I see a pair of shoes I want. About 90% of the time I’ll end up buying them. But, the minute I come home I’m dreading my husband’s favorite shoe catchphrase…”Why do you need so many shoes?”
Grrrrr…that annoys me.

Of course I can think of a lot of reasons why I need more shoes. I tend to go with…”Babe, I don’t have a basic black pump! The ones I have are so old and uncomfortable!” I really do think I come up with the best answers, but he just shakes his head and walks away.

Doesn’t he understand the need to have pretty shoes on my feet? Why don’t some people realize that styles and trends change? A girl needs options. And if they are on sale and they’re cute, that’s a double bonus! I can’t pass them up.

Hopefully one day he’ll understand why I love shoes. Until then, let the shoe shopping continue…

Do You Dare? Part II

“Do you Dare?” is back shoe junkies!

I love shoes…you all know that. But, sometimes we come across some questionable styles and patterns. Are they trend setting or a big mistake on the designers part?

Some might say they are a work of art, while others will call them tragic!

The Levon Platform $198 (left) comes from Free People and could be classified as creative and daring??

We know designers are quirky, but are their designs worthy enough to put on your feet?

So, what do you say? Do you dare to wear these shoes below? Or are they too boring for you?

Introducing Sejour by Nordstrom

Just when I thought I couldn’t love Nordstrom anymore than I already do, they are in the midst of unveiling their own plus-size line.

“Nordstrom recognizes that plus-size women deserve more on-trend, in-store and online choices, and is pleased to announce its new plus-size brand with modern styling called Sejour. Sejour will be available exclusively in the Encore department beginning the first through second weeks of November. The brand will launch in two phases with the first roll-out in November, and culminate in the spring with our entire selection of styles.” -Nordstrom Press Release

Along with a couple of other bloggers, I was contacted by Nordstrom to review some of their new pieces. I am beyond honored to be involved in their new fashion venture.

The thing I love the most about Sejour is the fact that they are going to feature looks that are great for layering. This includes great fabric manipulation and fun textures like sequins, beading, and embellishments for the season.

Their pieces will go from weekend to work, evening to holiday, sizes 14W-24W, and 1X-3X, primarily in a curvy fit. The pricing will range from $28-$200. As you can see in the “Blogalicious 2010: What I wore” post I made sure to try the Rayon leggings and Drape Front Embellished Top right away. There are a few other pieces that I will review for you soon.

Make sure you keep an out for this new line headed to the Nordstrom Encore department nearest you!

An Aussie in London
Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

Who is your favorite fashion designer and why?

When I look at clothes, I pay most of my attention to plus-size wear and as far as high-end designers are concerned, I like Elena Miro for the curvy-girl wear and also – the amazing Anna Scholz. Both designers clearly understand the nature of curves. My favourite places to shop are the Australian store, City Chic and Dutch store, Carmakoma.

Non-curvy – just designer-wise, I love Wheels and Dollbaby for the flirtatious design and style. I also always like to see the catwalk collections for YSL, Tom Ford, Vivienne Westwood and Alannah Hill. For men – I love Hugo Boss Suits.
What is the one fashion accessory/item you can’t live without?

My Wittner Slouch Boots in style “Sin City”. I love them. Wittner is an Australian brand and they have the prettiest shoes. I also have an abundance of handbags, but go through serious phases where I will just use one for ages – before I switch to another that I will use for ages… and so on!
If you were allowed to create a beauty product, what would it be and what would you name it?

I would try to make some sort of combined mousturiser and primer that nourishes the skin but also makes it radiant and make-up ready. It would contain a good SPF factor too (I am obsessed with moisturiser)… I don’t know what I might call it, perhaps – some sort of play on the word Luminous.
If you only had 10 minutes to pack for a fashion extravaganza in your favorite city, what would you bring and where would it be?

I think we’re headed to New York baby! The clothes would include: my fashion uniform – which comprises my City Chic denim skirt, black leggings, black singlet top and then a range of boleros/shrugs and cardigans to style with accessories. I’d then also have to bring a couple of print dresses, my Carmakoma Madonna skirt, slouch boots, kitten heels and then my favourite dress… currently (and always subject to change) a black and white number bought in Australia.

Do you live by a fashion philosophy or quote? What is it?

There are a couple that I coined and love:

“Take your time, explore your style, embrace your curves” is what I would advise…

“I have great curves and I know how to wear them…” is what I live by!

Amanda Allison

Who is your favorite fashion designer and why?

Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton. He captures everything great about the Parisian woman – glamour, power, and playfulness. And, the bags? Don’t even get me started on the bags.

What is one fashion accessory/item you can’t live without?

My LV handbags are a must-have. Please don’t make me choose just one of them.

If you were allowed to create a beauty product, what would it be and what would you name it?

“Fully Functioning Concealer” would be the best concealer known to woman, perfect for camouflaging dark undereye circles and treating acne and blemishes.

If you only had 10 minutes to pack for a fashion extravaganza in your favorite city, what would you bring and where would it be?

Paris is my favorite city so packing all the right pieces in such little time would be crucial. I would pack v-neck tees in a rainbow of colors, two cardigans, dark wash jeggings, dark grey trousers, opaque black leggings, a high-waisted white and black dress, a few statement necklaces and bracelets, pale pink nail polish, flats, pumps,my makeup kit, and a few of my favorite headbands!

Do you live by a fashion philosophy or quote? What is it?

“I’m a brand, baby, and every day I’m my own best advertisement.” – Kimora Lee Simmons

Sticky Sweet Danish

Who is your favorite fashion designer and why?

I actually don’t have a favorite, I like to mix things up. And I don’t think that clothes have to be expensive to look good. But no doubt Balmain has great influence this season.

What is the one fashion accessory/item you can’t live without? I can’t live without bags.

Tiny ones for going clubbing, huge ones for shopping and everything in between! I’m a bag lady, LOL. At the moment I love black, studs, florals and pastel ones.

If you were allowed to create a beauty product, what would it be and what would you name it?

I think it would be a body butter. I looove body butters. It would be very floral and fresh scented, not too heavy and I’d call it Butter Me Up… or something. I totally just made that up, I’ve never really thought about it before, haha!

If you only had 10 minutes to pack for a fashion extravaganza in your favorite city, what would you bring and where would it be?

I’d bring my phone, my camera, a bottle of water and a snack. This could take all day! And oh, I’d be going to London.

Do you live by a fashion philosophy or quote? What is it?

Don’t be a slave to fashion. Make fashion work for you!
