A few weeks ago, I wrote a Beauty Buzz feature and hosted a giveaway for KleanSpa. Here’s the original post. In case you were wondering KleanSpa products can be found in salons and stores throughout the nation. If you love creating your own scents and live in the Los Angeles area, then I would recommend attending their monthly Blending Bash. At the Bash, you will personally work with Jennifer (the owner) to create your own signature fragrance.
I attended one last month and it was so much fun! I went with Nik and Denise at the Burbank location which is inside an amazing boutique called MindfulNest. I think most of the night we spent shopping, drinking champagne, and choosing the oils for our scents. I created Chaotic Fruit, which consists of watermelon, pina colada, mango, and cucumber melon.. It smells so yummy.
Here’s a little video I took:
Where do I even start? First of all, I want to thank Lane Bryant for the VIP pass to The Curvy Revolution. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have had such an amazing experience.
On the final day of the convention, I finally ran into NettaP, one of my favorite bloggers. Love that girl!
Then after getting lost, I attended a Lane Bryant panel session with the VP of Marketing, Jay Dunn. It was a very informative look into the world of Lane Bryant. Mr. Dunn made sure to remind us that it’s not about age, but about your attitude. I love that philosophy especially when it comes to fashion. He gave us a few insights on keeping LB on trend, their models, and what is in store for them in the future.
After the session, I went to dinner with my girls and then I ran back to my hotel to get ready for the runway finale. I bought this grey draped dress with an embellished belt from Forever 21+. My earrings and ring were from Aldo Accessories, and I wore my black patent leather Jessica Simpson platform pumps.
As I found a seat, I pulled out my camera, only to realize I left my batteries charging in my hotel room. I was so MAD! Unfortunately, I only had my cell phone to take photos. So, until LB releases their images, your stuck with cruddy cell phone images.
Although the first half of the finale was awesome, I was really looking forward to Lane Bryant’s finale. I found a seat next to Sara of Bombshell Beauty (who is awesome btw). We all sat there anxiously waiting for it to start. Little did we know, the stunning Ashley Graham would open the show. Take a look of the really poor quality video I took with my phone (below).
After the runway show, I finally met Aimee and Erica from Madison Plus and I snapped a photo with Ashley Graham.
Then we made our way to the after party. I had a powerful conversation with Jay Dunn about LB using models who are size 16 and up. I hope my pleading made some kind of impression. I also had a chance to meet and chat with Robert Rutkauskas, senior Lane Bryant designer. I then introduced myself to a few of the LB models, including Lizzie Miller. The night is one I will remember for a very long time!
I will say this…beyond the “behind the scenes” drama (that is not worth putting on my blog) I was really glad to have met the Lane Bryant team and the City Chic team. And the time spent with my girls is worth so much more. Thank you to all who made this an amazing weekend!
Day 2 of The Curvy Revolution was all about meeting the vendors at the Expo. I know there are so many amazing products and brands out there for the curvy woman.
I even had the opportunity to get a free bra fitting by Lane Bryant. I found out I’ve been wearing the wrong bra size! What? No wonder I’ve always been uncomfortable wearing under wire bras. Now, I know my correct size and my “girls” will be a lot happier. Maybe I’ll even buy the new Sateen Convertible Plunge Bra. Go get your free fitting today!!
Here’s what I wore:
Sweater: TJ Maxx
Tunic: Abrstract Print Twist Neck Tunic (courtesy of Lane Bryant)
Leggings: Sejour (Nordstrom)
Bracelets: Courtesy of Lane Bryant
I got a lot of compliments on the tunic. I love the colors and once again the soft material. Chic and comfy! I know I’ll get a lot of wear out of it. I also wore my favorite leggings by Sejour, they are amazing. Now, let me tell you about the boots. They are very nice to look at but NOT AT ALL made for comfort. I wore them all day and I did a lot of walking; today my legs are aching and my feet hurt. I definitely need some cushioning in there.
Back to the vendors…I met a lot of inspiring curvy women yesterday. I bought a vintage top from Kori at BuxomVintage.com, she has an amazing selection of vintage pieces. Amanda Bennett of BennettsBoots.com came all the way from Australia to show her amazing line of wide calf boots. FYI…they are made from the same leather Prada uses. You’ll see them on Curves and Chaos pretty soon.
I picked up a few samples of PSST (Put Shorts Straight Today). I was so in love with this product. It’s a very simple and convenient way to stop your shorts from bunching up between your legs. I love it!!
The women from Curvy Divas Rock were so cute! I bought one of their tees (below) and I can’t wait to wear it. Because duhhhh…we do rock! I honestly loved meeting each and every person yesterday, it show the passion they have for the curvy community. Very very inspiring!!
I made the trek from Los Angeles to Las Vegas all by myself! Woohoo! I’m here for The Curvy Revolution and I am beyond excited! I am about to pass out from all the excitement and fun. So here’s a quick recap of what I wore.
Dress: Print Kimono Tunic (courtesy of Lane Bryant)
Nylons: Target-Merona brand
Shoes: Forever 21
Jewelry: Lane Bryant and Nordstrom
This tunic, which I made into a dress, is silky soft and comfortable. And it has pockets! I kept the jewelry minimal because of the print of the dress.
Join me on Sunday from 1-2 p.m. for a Twitter Party sponsored by JAFRA. Follow the hash tag #JAFRAColor to join in! There will be beauty prizes!
After the events of the night, I had a chance to catch up with my girls: models Fluvia, Griselangel, Allison, Courtney, Maddy from Plus Model Magazine, and stylist Reah. We had too much fun on our first night. I can’t wait to see what day #2 has for us.
If you’ve been hiding under a rock and don’t know what The Curvy Revolution is…
“The Curvy Revolution (TCR) is the premier, largest, and most dynamic convention for plus size women, produced by the nation’s largest plus size organization Full Figures. This convention is an interactive experience designed to celebrate, inform, and inspire plus size women.”
A BIG THANK YOU goes out to Lane Bryant for sponsoring my pass and some of the clothing I’ll be wearing this weekend! Follow me all weekend on twitter @CurvesandChaos with the hashtag #lbtcr.
If you’re going…I’ll see you there!
It might be New York Fashion week and I do love fashion, but do you know what I love more? Full Figured Fashion Week! And it’s set to all go down again in New York on June 16-18, 2011!
I was lucky enough to be selected as a member of The Curvy Collective in Los Angeles last year for Full Figured Fashion Week(end). It was an amazing experience!
Every time I see founder Gwen DeVoe post something about FFFWeek on Facebook, I get more and more excited! As a matter of fact, they are currently searching for The (New) Face of Full-Figured Fashion Week for 2011. You might remember the stunning Rosie Mercado representing in 2010.
There are over 30 beautiful women vying for the spot! I can’t wait to see who wins!
Celebrating their 55th year anniversary, JAFRA is holding their annual conference in style at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas!
JAFRA, an international cosmetics company known for their popular Royal Jelly line, not only creates quality skin care products, but they also offer career opportunities.
Day 1 brought consultants from all over the United States together for a motivating, educational, and empowering session. I was lucky enough to experience it all. It was so inspiring to be around all of these women who whole-heartedly support each other in what could be a very competitive market.
JAFRA President Connie Tang was on hand to share her passion for what she does. She also spoke about the Accelerate Your Success program, which presents a brand new Mercedes Benz to successful managers. There were 32 winners for 2010!
They also introduced their reinvented “color” line. Developed with the help of celebrity makeup artists Sergio Lopez Rivera and Aliesh Pierce, the colors are “for every woman, for every age, and every skin tone.” From natural to dramatic the looks are practically endless.
Day 1 ended with motivational speaker J.R. Martinez. While serving in the U.S. Army, he was severely burned after his humvee ran over a land mine during the Iraq war. Today, he travels the country sharing his story of resilience and optimism. It was a day to remember.
Day 2 will not only consist of live tweeting from the JAFRA workshops, but I’ll also be hosting a Twitter Party today from 2 p.m.-3 p.m. PST. Don’t forget to use the #JAFRA2011 hash tag, there will be a chance to win a JAFRA bag filled with products that were just launched valued at $250! Follow me on Twitter @BlogsbyLatinas to join in.
I am in a shoe obsessed mood right now, so bear with me. I can thank Chinese Laundry for that. Last night, I spent a few hours over at the Chinese Laundry Golden Globes after party held at the W hotel in Hollywood.
The night was filled with laughter and fun (wink wink) with a few gal pals. There were even a few interesting sightings. It was held in “The Living Room” inside the W, which was massive.
You can check out the photos on their Facebook page here.
I wore this top by L8ter clothing via Macy’s, tights from Target, and jewelry, skirt, and shoes from Forever 21.
This F21 necklace is becoming one of my favorite pieces. So, you just might see it in a few of my upcoming outfits.
My night as a CoverGirl was a very exciting night! Now, you get to see my makeover process during the “Primping Party.” I was having technical difficulties after the party and I couldn’t post the video until now.
My hair was styled by Besma of the Frederic Fekkai Salon and my makeup was done by Toby Fleischman. I felt so glamorous!

COVERGIRL encompasses beauty and glamour on the inside and out! And as they celebrate their 50th Anniversary, they want you to know that “Every woman is a COVERGIRL!”
I found out exactly what it means to be a true COVERGIRL. All thanks to an exclusive invite to their star studded 50th Anniversary party at BOA in Los Angeles! And there’s no better way to get red carpet ready, other than an exclusive “primping party” at The London hotel.
With a glass of champagne in hand, Besma from Frederic Fekkai Salon styled my hair with products from the Fekkai luxury product line. She was awesome! I had the chance to chat with a fellow bloggers and enjoy the amazing view from the suite’s patio; all while hosting my first ever Twitter Party!
I made my way over to the amazing make up artist Toby Fleischman. Not only was she crazy talented, she was so nice! She used the new NatureLuxe Silk Foundation, COVERGIRL and Olay Simply Ageless Corrector, COVERGIRL and Olay Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush, LashBlast Fusion Mascara, Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadow, and new COVERGIRL Lip Perfection Lipstick on me. I was in love with my look of the night! I honestly didn’t even feel like I was wearing makeup. It was all so light, but it had great coverage and the lipstick was “perfection.”

This year, beauty giant COVERGIRL cosmetics commemorates its 50th anniversary and that every woman is a COVERGIRL!
Last night, I had the extreme honor of being an honorary COVERGIRL by attending an exclusive “Primping Party” and Hollywood Red Carpet party! Don’t worry my full recap is coming soon! But, I did want to share the looks that COVERGIRL’s Queen Latifah, Taylor Swift, Drew Barrymore, Ellen DeGeneres, and Dania Ramirez were rocking on the red carpet as told by their makeup artists for the night.
Queen Latifah – by Celebrity Makeup Artist D’Andre Michael
Queen Latifah’s wardrobe for the show varied between Black, Hot Pink and Turquoise Blue so I wanted to give here a look that accentuated the eyes.
I started by using COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Compact Foundation<http://www.
covergirl.com/beauty-products/ face-makeup/foundation-makeup/ queen-natural-hue-compact- foundation> in Golden Honey and set it with COVEGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Minerals Pressed Powder<http://www.covergirl. com/beauty-products/face- makeup/powder-makeup/queen- natural-hue-pressed-powder> in Brown Bronze 1.
For the eyes, I started by applying COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast<http://www.
covergirl.com/beauty-products/ eye-makeup/eyeshadow/smoky- shadow-blast> in Onyx Smoke (black color) on eyelid and under the lower lash. Doing this allows you to blend your darker shadows into a softer color. I then used COVERGIRL Queen Collection 1-Kit Eyeshadow<http://www. covergirl.com/beauty-products/ eye-makeup/eyeshadow/queen-1- kit> in Black Tie over the Onyx Smoke and blended it above the crease of the lid. I did this to intensify the color and set the Smoky ShadowBlast. I lined the inner bottom eyelid for depth with COVERGIRL LiquiLineBlast<http://www. covergirl.com/beauty-products/ eye-makeup/eye-liner/ liquilineblast-eyeliner> in Black Fire. To finish the eyes I applied 2 coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume Waterproof Mascara<http://www.covergirl. com/beauty-products/eye- makeup/mascara/lashblast- volume-blasting-mascara> in Very Black.
For Queen’s lips, I offset the smokey eye with a lavender lip gloss. Try COVERGIRL ShineBlast<http://www.
covergirl.com/beauty-products/ lip-makeup/lipgloss/ shineblast-lipgloss> in Dazzle. By doing lighter colored lips, this allows her eyes would stand out.
I accentuated Queen’s cheeks with a light powder blush to add a hint of color and tone. To complete Queen’s overall look I brushed COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer<http://www.covergirl.
com/beauty-products/face- makeup/bronzer/queen-natural- hue-bronzer> in Brown Bronze for a soft and subtle glow.
Taylor Swift- by Celebrity Makeup Artist Lorrie Turk
We decided to go for a fresh, pretty beauty look for Taylor for the People’s Choice Awards and the COVERGIRL 50th Anniversary Party. She opted for a slight departure from her signature bright red lip for more of an orangy-red, which added a pop of color to complement the light color of the dress.
I prepped her face with COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Serum Primer<http://www.covergirl.
com/beauty-products/face- makeup/foundation-makeup/ simply-ageless-serum-primer> and applied COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Silk Foundation<http://www. covergirl.com/beauty-products/ face-makeup/foundation-makeup/ natureluxe-foundation> in Alabaster with a brush and blended with a sponge. You can also apply the foundation by mixing it in your palm and applying directly with your fingers. The foundation gave Taylor a polished finish.
On her eyes, I used COVERGIRL LiquiLineBlast<http://www.
covergirl.com/beauty-products/ eye-makeup/eye-liner/ liquilineblast-eyeliner> in Black Fire to create the minimal winged liner. We didn’t want to make the eyes too dramatic since we were focusing on a bright lip. I finished the eyes by curling her lashes and applying COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume<http://www.covergirl. com/beauty-products/eye- makeup/mascara/lashblast- volume-blasting-mascara> in Black.
Taylor’s lips were the standout of the look. I first used COVERGIRL Lip Perfection Lip Liner<http://www.covergirl.
com/beauty-products/lip- makeup/lip-liner/lip- perfection-lip-liner> in Passion to line her lips and also help the color stay through the night. I then finished the lip by applying COVERGIRL Lip Perfection Lipstick<http://www.covergirl. com/beauty-products/lip- makeup/lip-color/lip- perfection-lipstick> in Flame.
Drew Barrymore- by Celebrity Makeup Artist Debra Ferullo
Inspiration: It all started obviously with her dress. It was a gorgeous orange color that reminded us of the French Riviera so I wanted to create a fresh, dewy look.
On Drew’s skin I created a luxurious polished finish with COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Silk Foundation<http://www.
covergirl.com/beauty-products/ face-makeup/foundation-makeup/ natureluxe-foundation> and then warmed up her cheeks by applying COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush<http://www.covergirl. com/beauty-products/face- makeup/blush/simply-ageless- sculpting-blush> in Lush Berry for a natural sun-kissed glow.
For her eyes, we wanted to create some depth, but nothing too strong, so I created a wash of bronzes and plums using COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast<http://www.
covergirl.com/beauty-products/ eye-makeup/eyeshadow/smoky- shadow-blast> in Bronze Fire all the way up to the browbone and under the eye and COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast<http://www. covergirl.com/beauty-products/ eye-makeup/eyeshadow/smoky- shadow-blast> in Purple Plume. I then lined her eyes with COVERGIRL LiquiLineBlast<http://www. covergirl.com/beauty-products/ eye-makeup/eye-liner/ liquilineblast-eyeliner> in Brown Blaze and smudged it with my finger to create depth but without harsh lines. I finished the eyes with 2 coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume<http://www.covergirl. com/beauty-products/eye- makeup/mascara/lashblast- volume-blasting-mascara> Mascara.
Lastly I applied COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Gloss Balm<http://www.covergirl.com/
beauty-products/lip-makeup/ lipgloss/natureluxe-gloss-balm> in Anemone on her lips to complete the fresh look.
Ellen Degeneres- by Celebrity Makeup Artist Heather Currie
Since this party was representing 50 years of COVERGIRL, I wanted Ellen to have a classic, clean, and beautiful look. At the same time, because she has such vibrant eyes, I wanted to do something sexy and smoky to add a little glamour.
I began the process by prepping her skin with COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Serum Primer<http://www.covergirl.
com/beauty-products/face- makeup/foundation-makeup/ simply-ageless-serum-primer>. I like to use the primer because it hydrates the skin and helps the foundation to last longer.
Next I used the COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Foundation<http://www.
covergirl.com/beauty-products/ face-makeup/foundation-makeup/ simply-ageless-foundation>. Ellen is a little tan right now so I used the foundation in Warm Beige, but normally I use Buff Beige on her.
I like to use the sponge that comes with the foundation, and I prefer to use it wet. Just make sure that all of the excess water is squeezed out of the sponge. After the foundation I applied the Simply Ageless Concealer<http://www.
covergirl.com/beauty-products/ face-makeup/concealer/simply- ageless-concealer> in light/medium. I used a brush, but it works just as well to apply with fingers. I basically put a little concealer under her eyes, and a tiny bit in the T-zone area to reduce any redness.
For Ellen’s eyes, I started by lining the eye with COVERGIRL LiquiLineBlast<http://www.
covergirl.com/beauty-products/ eye-makeup/eye-liner/ liquilineblast-eyeliner> in Brown Blaze. I used my finger and smudged the line so that it wouldn’t appear hard. I then used an eye shadow brush and continued to smudge the liner area with COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers<http://www. covergirl.com/beauty-products/ eye-makeup/eyeshadow/eye- enhancers-1-kit> in Brown Smolder. I wanted Ellen’s look to seem more edgy so I added some of the COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast<http://www. covergirl.com/beauty-products/ eye-makeup/eyeshadow/smoky- shadow-blast> in Silver Sky on top of the shadow. Adding the metallic cream gave the eye a bit more dimension and a bit of glamorous sheen. I then added a very thin line of the COVERGIRL Line Exact<http://www.covergirl. com/beauty-products/eye- makeup/eye-liner/line-exact- liquid-liner> in Brown. I did this to give the lash line more intensity. The last step for the eyes was to curl her lashes and I applied two coats of the COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume<http://www.covergirl. com/beauty-products/eye- makeup/mascara/lashblast- volume-blasting-mascara> Mascara. Since Ellen is blonde, and typically prefers a more natural look, I opted for brown mascara.
To give Ellen’s skin that fresh glow I added some of the COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush<http://www.covergirl.
com/beauty-products/face- makeup/blush/simply-ageless- sculpting-blush> in Royal Plum to the apple area of her cheeks. I prefer to use a synthetic brush for this, but the fingers can work just as well.
I then used a bit of the COVERGIRL Clean Pressed Powder for Normal Skin<http://www.covergirl.com/
beauty-products/face-makeup/ powder-makeup/clean-pressed- powder-normal-skin> in Natural Beige, and just swept it lightly over her skin. Because I wanted her skin to appear natural, I focused the powder more in the T-zone area. We want the shine to appear more on the cheekbones and on the sides of her face.
Because the eyes were more of a focus for this look, I wanted to keep the lips more natural and subdued. I used COVERGIRL Lip Perfection Lip Liner<http://www.covergirl.
com/beauty-products/lip- makeup/lip-liner/lip- perfection-lip-liner> in Seduce, but I didn’t line the lip with it, I lightly applied the pencil to most of the lip area. I like to do that because it holds the gloss and lip color longer, and gives it a primer affect. Then I applied COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Gloss Balm<http://www.covergirl.com/ beauty-products/lip-makeup/ lipgloss/natureluxe-gloss-balm > in Clove to add a light luxurious sheer color and finish the look.
Dania Ramirez- by Celebrity Makeup Artist Matthew VanLeeuwen
Dania’s makeup inspiration was a twist on a classic beauty look. She called me earlier that day to tell me she was in love with her dress and thought she wanted a red lip, which I totally agreed with once I saw her outfit. We stuck with a fairly clean, pale lid and sculpted brows, but I also wanted to add a little gold to the eyes in honor of COVERGIRL’s 50th Anniversary.
To start, I prepped the skin with a light moisturizer and then applied COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Serum Primer<http://www.covergirl.
com/beauty-products/face- makeup/foundation-makeup/ simply-ageless-serum-primer>. I then used COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Foundation<http://www. covergirl.com/beauty-products/ face-makeup/foundation-makeup/ natureluxe-foundation> in Nutmeg which gave her perfectly polished skin with a luxurious finish. On her eyes, I applied COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast<http://www. covergirl.com/beauty-products/ eye-makeup/eyeshadow/smoky- shadow-blast> in Citrus Flair, using the green color on the lid and the bronze color in the crease and then darkened the outside of the eye with COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast<http://www. covergirl.com/beauty-products/ eye-makeup/eyeshadow/smoky- shadow-blast> in Bronze Fire. I created a minimal line to define the eye with COVERGIRL LiquiLineBlast<http://www. covergirl.com/beauty-products/ eye-makeup/eye-liner/ liquilineblast-eyeliner> in Black Fire and finished with a few coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Length<http://www.covergirl. com/beauty-products/eye- makeup/mascara/lashblast- length-mascara> Mascara in Black. On her lips, I created a strong, glamorous red lip with COVERGIRL Lip Perfection Lipstick<http://www.covergirl. com/beauty-products/lip- makeup/lip-color/lip- perfection-lipstick> in Hot.
Lastly, I applied COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Blush<http://www.covergirl.
com/beauty-products/face- makeup/blush/simply-ageless- sculpting-blush> in Plush Peach on the apples of her cheeks to balance out the look. It is really important to create a natural looking balance on the skin especially when working with a bright red lip. I finished it off by setting her face with a light dusting of COVERGIRL Clean Pressed<http://www.covergirl. com/beauty-products/face- makeup/powder-makeup/clean- pressed-powder-normal-skin> Powder in Tawny.
