Travel Our Very Own Winter Wonderland

As a California girl, you’d think I’d only love sunny beaches and palm trees. Don’t get me wrong, I do love my warm weather. But, sometimes a girl needs to experience a little snow and ice. Which I really haven’t done since my days of living in North Dakota and Germany. That’s why, when my best friend offered me her home in Maine for 9 days, I couldn’t say no—even in the middle of January.

Before you ask, no I don’t ski, snowboard, snowmobile or any other activity that requires playing in the snow. I do love to lounge though. And that is exactly what my husband and I did. Our entire week was unplanned and anything we did was spur of the moment. Normally, that would drive a person like me insane. But, I decided to soak it all in instead.

Have you ever just gone on vacation and done nothing? If you haven’t, I highly suggest you try it. It’s so amazingly refreshing to do nothing and relax in your very own winter wonderland. And we had the chance to truly enjoy each other’s company. We did get out and do a few things. Like a day in Portland, a visit to the town of Freeport, and the Colby College Museum of Art (post coming soon). Along with visiting some friends in the area.

I would love to give a big shout out and thanks to Kia for letting me test out the 2017 Kia Sorento in the snow. Believe me when I tell you that the all-wheel drive (AWD) came in handy. As you’ll see in my photos below, we had a lot of snow to drive in. And I swear I don’t want this to sound like a Kia commercial, but OMG the heated steering wheel and seats were major life (and butt) savers! It’s was in the teens on most days.

Maine is a joy in the summer. But the soul of Maine is more apparent in the winter. -Paul Theroux

Despite the chilly temps and being knee deep in snow, we had one of the best vacations we’ve ever had. Maine is incredibly beautiful and worth every drop of snow.
