This is my first post of 2016! We all know I don’t make new year’s resolutions. It’s just not my thing. I try to live my life day to day. Every morning I wake up, I have another chance to accomplish any goal I put in front of myself. But, there is one thing I have been doing every January for the past six years, it’s celebrating my blog’s birthday (AKA blogaversary)! Since 2010, I have been sharing my journey with you guys and I don’t regret one word I’ve written here.
And just like this blog, I feel like I have evolved over the years. I am definitely not the same person I was when I first started Curves and Chaos. Not only has my style changed, but so has my attitude about who I am and the body I live in. I am more confident now than ever. Yet, I am human and I recognize when I am not happy with what is going on in my life. This is something that was really hard for me in the past. I was unhappy and I stayed in that darkness for longer than necessary. I feel like my life experiences and the people I surround myself with have really helped me along the way. This includes you—the beautiful people who read my blog and allow me a space to share my life.
Over the past six years, I have met some very amazing people and visited some wonderful places because of this blog. To say I am grateful might just be a little bit of an understatement. I have learned so much about myself and the nature of others—this includes the negative. Like I said, I am exceptionally grateful for all of it. Without it, where would I be?
When I first started this blog, I had no idea about the plus size fashion blogging community or the fashion industry. All I knew was that I didn’t know where to find cute clothes in my size. I also knew that if I felt this way, so did other women. I wasn’t copying any other bloggers, because I didn’t really know any of them at that time. I started by researching our shopping options (which were only a few) and sharing that with anyone who would read it. It wasn’t until a few months in when I discovered other plus size bloggers. You can read those Blogger Q & A’s here.
This is when I truly discovered I was not alone. Since then, there has been a boom of style bloggers. Some of those I interviewed for my blog in 2010 are still around, others aren’t. I sometimes wonder why they quit blogging. Then I think of why I’m still around six years later. It’s simple, I do what I love. If I didn’t have the passion for writing here, I’d move on. But, for now the fire is still burning. I have my reasons and that’s all I need.
The plus size fashion industry has also changed a lot since then. I’ve mentioned before that’s there’s still a lot of work to do, but I feel like we have many more options and amazing designers than ever before. I look forward to what the next six years will bring. For now, I will continue to write about my style journey and any thing going on in my life.
I know I’ve said thank you to you guys hundreds of times now, but I want you to know that I truly mean it. And as always, I show my appreciation in the only way I know how—with a giveaway of course! I’m going to give one lucky reader a $100 gift card to the plus size online retailer/designer/boutique of their choice (if they offer online gift cards of course). Enter below and good luck!
