Curvy Girl Travels Tips for a Romantic Weekend

Sometimes, we just need a romantic weekend. Whether it’s to rekindle the fire, start-up up a romance, celebrate a special occasion, or just because. I was invited out by the Hofsas House Hotel in Carmel, California to spend a complimentary weekend by the sea. Only a 5 1/2 hour drive north of Los Angeles, the hubby and I decided to take a break from our lives and the opportunity to explore the village of Carmel-by-the-Sea. We had such an amazing and relaxing time, just the two of us. It was so nice, that I wanted to share a few of my tips for a romantic weekend.

Spend it with Someone You Love

In my opinion, a truly romantic weekend is better when it’s with someone you love. Hey, I’m not here to judge, just don’t blame me when the person you “kinda like” gets on your nerves after only a few hours alone together. I spent this weekend with my hubby of almost eight years (together for 13 years). It was so nice and refreshing to be able to reconnect. We ended up realizing that we need more weekends like this. Annnnnd if you just want a romantic weekend alone…well…do it! Alone time is awesome too!!

Location, Location, Location

Carmel is just gorgeous.—seriously. named it #3 on it’s list of the World’s Best Cities for Romance. Like I had previously mentioned, we stayed at the Hofsas House Hotel. This family-owned inn only has 38 uniquely decorated rooms.  It’s cozy with it’s vintage touches like the antique-inspired furniture and cast iron fireplace. It’s not your modern hotel—but that’s OK. Because, they are super friendly, helpful, and informative.

They offer free parking, free continental breakfast, a heated pool, sauna, an amazing view of the ocean, free wifi, and more. We were even greeted in our room with their wine and cheese package. They even set up our dinner at local restaurant The Grill on Ocean Avenue. OMG…delicious. It was only a five minute walk from the hotel too! If you’re a wine lover, you have to ask them about their 2 for 1 Wine Walk Passport…can you say wine tastings?

Plan Activities You Both Love

When planning your romantic weekend, make sure you get a chance to do things you both love. I love museums and historical points-of-interest. The hubby, is more int0 the relaxing moments, like going to the beach. So, we did both. We drove out to the Carmel Mission AKA San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo Mission (a five minute drive from the hotel). It was so stunning and beautiful—I loved it.  After the mission,  we grabbed lunch, a blanket, and walked down the hill to Carmel beach (25 minute walk). The weather wasn’t perfect, but we enjoyed every moment together.

Don’t Be Afraid to Just Wander

I know it’s hard sometimes to just let go and wander. Our lives are filled with to-do lists and must-sees. But, if you’re ever in a walking town or a quaint village like Carmel-by-the-Sea, don’t be afraid to just stroll. Take a few hours in the morning or afternoon to explore, take photos, and genuinely enjoy each other’s company. Hand-in-hand, we stumbled into a few hidden walkways, bookstores, gift shops, and art galleries. We took our time and didn’t feel rushed. It was unplanned and perfect.
