DIY Plus-Size Halloween Costume / Mary Poppins

Oh Halloween…you’ve really snuck up on us haven’t you? I promise myself every year that I’m not going to wait until the last-minute when it comes to my costume. Yeah, I always fail at that. So, when that I happens, I either run to my local Halloween costume store and hope they carry plus-sizes or just put one together myself. Sometimes, I think the DIY (do-it-yourself) option is a lot better. That’s why I’m going to bring you a few DIY plus-size Halloween costume ideas.

804425My goal here isn’t to stop you from buying a Halloween costume from a retailer. I love shopping for costumes. There are some really amazing ones out there. I just know that sometimes the “plus-size” options run small, can be too revealing, they’re pretty pricey, or the quality is just not what it should be. And I also know that some of you like creating your own costumes. You crafty people!

Starting today, I’m hoping to bring you a range of DIY plus-size Halloween costume ideas. From sweet, playful, a little naughty, and ghoulish! The first one in this series was inspired by this Mary Poppins Plus Adult Costume at ($69.99).  We all know Mary Poppins, the magical English nanny. I figure this costume should be pretty easy to recreate on your own and you can definitely personalize it with your own stylish touches.

This costume is more on the modest side. I think that’s what I love most about it. And you probably already own a few of these items. If you don’t, why not visit our favorite thrift store? You’ll save money that way.

Here’s how I’d put together this Halloween look:

1.Apt. 9® Double-Breasted Fit & Flare Wool-Blend Peacoat 2. Land’s End 3/4-sleeve Performance Twill Shirt 3. Croft & Barrow® 3-D Flower Felt Cloche Hat 4. Pierre Cardin 100% Silk Solid Bow Tie 5. Torrid Skinny Jean with Embellished Pockets 6. Merona Pashmina 7. Totes Umbrella 8. Sole Society Hilary Pointed Toe Flat 9. Luxury Divas Men’s White Stretchy Cotton Gloves W/Snap

  • Such a good costume. I went to the play last year and decided that I HAD to be Mary Poppins for Halloween this year. Unfortunately it just didn’t work out… because Winifred Sanderson from Hocus Pocus swooped in and stole my heart. But I’m definitely keeping this costume on the back burner for next year.
I never buy those pre-packaged costumes. It takes the fun out of it.

I agree!! Can’t wait to see your costume!! Let me know if you share it online 🙂 @Lessofless:disqus
