5 Easy Ways to Take Care of Your Skin / Guest Post

Taking care of your skin is easier than you might think. Ever since I began following a skincare routine (and stuck to it), I’ve noticed a great change that makes the extra effort totally worth it. Today, I’m sharing five easy ways to take care of your skin.

#1 Cleanse your skin morning and night.

I never thought washing my face with a cleanser in the morning would make a huge difference, but it does. Your complexion will look and feel much better if you take the time to get rid of not only makeup but also dead cells and impurities in general. In my case, I tend to break out, and when I fall off the wagon and skip my morning ritual, I pay for it days later. If you have dry skin, try a creamy cleanser and you’ll also notice an improvement.

#2 Wear sunscreen every day, rain or shine.

We forget how harmful the sun’s rays can be to our skin all year long, but if you want to delay the signs of premature aging, wrinkles and help prevent skin cancer, sunscreen is not optional. There are so many different types of sun protection that there is no excuse to not protect your skin.

#3 Know your skin.

If you are acne prone, don’t over-moisturize or use occlusive beauty products. If you have sensitive skin, steer clear of products with known irritants, such as fragrances and certain preservatives. Always read labels and instead of following the latest trends, stop to think if all the hype will really help your skin.

#4 Invest in a cleansing brush.

Just like electric toothbrushes do a better job of brushing your teeth, a facial brush will be noticeably more efficient when washing your face and removing all traces of makeup. Not only will your skin be cleaner, it will feel much smoother because a good cleansing brush will also gently exfoliate your skin and improve its texture.

#5 Keep it simple.

Don’t think that you need a routine that involves 8 different products. Usually you can get away with cleansing and a treatment or moisturizer. Remember to always apply the treatment on clean skin, so it can be more effective. And in the morning it’s totally okay to use a multitasking product such as a BB or CC cream to hydrate your skin but protect it from the sun at the same time. It even can replace foundation if you’re having a great skin day or at the very least, be used as a primer as well under your foundation.

    Great tips Jeannette! I’ll add a 10 minute steaming followed by a deep cleansing mud mask, followed by a good exfoliation, ideally once a week.
