Do you ever feel like you need a little help in the fashion department? Well, when I met Tim Gunn, he was more than happy to share some styling tips and fashion advice. He’s such a down to earth guy. I know I keep saying that, but it’s such a breath of fresh air when celebrities are nice. Anyways…one of the things he shared with us were his wardrobe essentials. I actually took video of it and wanted to share it with you guys. I even included my own plus size picks below.
A blazer is always a must for me. I chose this red Sophisticated High-Cut Blazer from Forever 21 because I love the style of the cut and the bold color. And I’m a fan of the non-traditional collar and lapel. It can be worn to work or for a night out.
A TRENCH COAT
I’m sad to say I don’t own a trench, but if I did it would probably be this DKNY Wool-Blend Belted Trench in camel. Like Tim say’s, you don’t have to go with the basic trench color or material. I love how this is almost a mustard color.
A DAY DRESS
You can never go wrong with a day dress. This casual dress style is a favorite of mine, because it comes in so many different styles, colors, and prints. I’m usually a fan of the maxi, but this Rainy Day Rendezvous Dress from ModCloth has my attention.
A BASIC BLACK DRESS
Talk about versatility, I don’t think you can outdo the basic black dress. The options of accessorizing this style of dress are endless. I know the Garnet Dress from Igigi can be worn day or night in a million ways!
A DRESS PANT
Never underestimate the need for a dress pant. You never know when you’ll need to wear a pair. Maybe for an interview or career related event, when you don’t feel like wearing a skirt or dress. I wouldn’t mind trying out the Sejour ‘Ela’ Straight Leg Pants.
A CASHMERE SWEATER
I love the feel of a cashmere sweater on my skin. It’s so amazingly soft. Tim makes a point to tell us that they don’t pill like other sweaters can and they aren’t as expensive as they used to be. Land’s End’s Year Round Cashmere Balletneck Sweater comes in 11 colors!
A SWEATSUIT ALTERNATIVE
I don’t own a sweatsuit and probably haven’t even worn one since I was a kid. So, I would definitely need an alternative to one. I choose this Pink Lotus Pleated Tunic Hoodie and a pair of yoga leggings. It’s a fun play on a regular ol’ hoodie.
There are so many styles of skirts out there—for each and every body (shape). I’m not kidding! I’ve had my eye on this ASOS CURVE Midi Skirt With Pleats. I don’t know why I just don’t buy it already. I’m such a slacker.
A GOOD PAIR OF JEANS
As someone who has a lot of denim…bad, good, and just awful, I can say I agree with Tim on this one. Please invest in a quality pair of jeans. I don’t even care about name brands. I just want a pair that’s going to last through the thigh chafing and not stretch out after an hour of wearing them. I do have a pair of these Lucky Brand Ginger Skinny jeans and I really really love them.
A CLASSIC SHIRT
Oh classic shirt…you’re so crisp and clean. You go with practically anything and can be worn a number of ways. This Caslon Cotton Blouse would make a great addition to my wardrobe.
