First Steps to a Healthy Future
As a plus size blogger, there are a many things I hear from readers. One of the things that irritates me the most is when I’m being told that I support obesity because I write about plus size fashion. Now, let’s get one thing straight, that is the most idiotic thing someone can say to me. I support dressing the body you have now…regardless of shape or size. No matter what you look like, you still need to wear clothes!
And in an ironic twist…I was recently invited to a Nike soccer event and was reminded of how out of shape I am. No matter how confident I am in my body, if I want to live a long life I need to change my lifestyle. I haven’t worked out in almost a year. During the soccer event, we were trying out the equipment and I couldn’t even handle the warm-up! The warm-up!
If you didn’t know I was very athletic in high school. I played volleyball, softball, and soccer. And when I was in the military, I loved running. Then the back problems started and so did the weight gain.
Today, this is the heaviest I’ve ever been and normally I wouldn’t care, but I can’t even walk up a few flight of stairs without being winded. Oh and did I mention I have high cholesterol? Yeah…that’s not good.
This Nike event really opened my eyes. I was so angry at myself, because I couldn’t go out and finish the drills. It was very frustrating.
So, why am I telling you all this? Because, I’m on a journey to a healthier lifestyle and I plan on sharing it with you. NO I’m not trying to lose 100 lbs and fit into a size 6. I just want to be able to run again without feeling like I’m going to pass out.
Yes, I’m afraid I’m going to lose too much weight. But, I feel like I know my body well enough. I’m going to work on lowering my cholesterol, keeping my curves, and go back to running. I know it’s not going to be easy, and I won’t get the support from all of you, but that’s OK. This next part of the journey is for me and my future.
