I love the recent arrival of the U.K. and Australian plus size fashion retailers coming to the U.S. I had the opportunity to review a few pieces from Simply Be a few months ago and I really loved the style and quality of the clothes. Tonight I just kinda peeked my head over there and I was reminded once again why I love them! If anyone cares, I want all of these pieces.
I swear these holidays are going to make me broke! All I want is a little sparkle this holiday season. Is that too much to ask? Maybe a little bling to brighten things up? You know I’m a lover of Juicy Couture and Betsey Johnson rings, but look what else I found, Kenneth Cole rings all under $40! I don’t which set of rings I want more! Which ones are your favorite? Can you see yourself wearing any of these with your holiday looks?
Inspired by my friend Nik’s post “Keeping the romance alive during the holiday season” I went online in search of my own way to turn up the heat during the holidays. Let your curves do all the talking with your special someone. I am a sucker for anything red and I am definitely loving #2! Which one do you love?

I am a true lover of shopping. Not just spending money, although that’s fun too. But, I am completely happy “just looking” in a mall filled to the brim with fashion, beauty products, shoes, and accessories. Even without buying a thing. I’m not talking about window shopping. I need to actually feel the merchandise and check out its quality. And not just plus size stores either; I make my way into any retail space. Until a few weeks ago.
I was at a Los Angeles area shopping mall and was stopped dead in my tracks before I even stepped foot into this high end boutique. It’s like I just froze. I couldn’t walk in.
Maybe it was the sales associates who eyed me up and down as I peered into the store. I know I haven’t felt this way since I was a teen. I was visiting my uncle who worked at Barneys New York in Beverly Hills. There was this sense of knowing that you just don’t belong in there. I have always prided myself of being a confident curvy woman. But, how could I be intimidated? What was I worried about? Not being able to afford anything in there or just the fact that I don’t fit into their clothes?
Then I started to think. Maybe I’m just worried about being judged by those in the store. Whether it was the discriminating sales associates or the platinum credit card carrying customer, no one wants to be judged. But, after all these years of curvy shopping…why now? Am I the only one who has felt this way?
I haven’t been back since, but I know that the only way to get over it is to just walk in and act like I own the place. I’m not going to let this “shopping while fat” get to me. I have as much right as anyone else to be in that store. Maybe my confidence did take a little dip that day, for whatever reason. But, I know in my heart that I can’t I let someone elses prejudices stop me from being who I am.
Remember to “Stay curvaliscious, confident, and courageous.”

I adore the holidays! The Christmas season has to be my favorite time of the year! I love spending time with friends and family and that’s exactly what I did last night. I attended the First Annual Snowball thrown by Two Point OH! LA. What an amazing group for fashion, beauty, and style bloggers in Los Angeles! I totally recommend joining if you live here.
The event benefited the Downtown’s Women Center and there were so many awesome sponsors. It was held at the Pacific Electric Lofts penthouse ballroom, which was stunning by the way. I walked away with two amazing swag bags! There was DIY lounge, beauty lounge, and a photobooth. It was so much fun! A little too much fun (wink wink).
Here are the gift bags I came home with.
After Saturday night’s Snowball event, I realized I don’t have a proper evening bag. With the holidays here, I need something that will be easy to carry, big enough for my cell phone, I.D., money, my compact, and my lip stick. I also want something that is unique. That brings us to this post. I love “unique” items, although I never have the guts to pull anything like it off. As I was searching today, I found a few “unique” evening bags that I’d love to share with you. Honest opinions please…would you carry any of these to your next holiday party?
Clearly I am having some type of shoe obsession! I don’t know what it is, but I need shoes! Raise your hand if you’re with me? And doesn’t there always seems to be an occasion that requires the purchase of new shoes. Maybe it’s the Two Point OH LA Snowball on Saturday that has me wanting a holiday inspired shoe like the ones below. A fatshionista is never satisfied, especially around the holidays. Read more
Yet, another beauty confession…I’m not anything close to a make up artist or beauty fanatic. But, I am a chick who does like make up, but doesn’t like to pay the hefty price for department store brands. I’ve purchased them before, but realized how expensive that can get. I’ve been an over-the-counter girl ever since. Lately, I’ve tried steppiing out of my comfort zone when it comes to colors. That’s why I was really excited when Wet N Wild agreed to send me a few of their products for the goodie bags I put together for an event.
Product Info: Wet N Wild COLOR ICON™ Eyeshadow Palette, retails $4.99. Colors: Greed, Pride, Lust, and Vanity.
Product Claim: Glamour-eyes from day to night! Each complementary shade can be mixed-and-matched for a variety of day-to-night looks. These palettes of 3 matte and 3 highly-pigmented effect shades are sure to please the shade sassy minimalist and enthusiast alike.
What I found out: Move over drugstore brands! This isn’t your run-of-the-mill 99¢ makeup anymore. Wet N Wild is definitely stepping up their game. The colors are not only amazing, but they actually have staying power. I’ve paid more for lesser quality stuff. The Lust palette is the one I’ve been using and it’s awesome. I definitely do not like the little application brushes that came with it, but who really uses those anyways? I’ve used this a couple of times and I have gotten compliments on the colors.
Would I buy it again? Yes and Yes!
**Read my disclosure policy. I was not paid to do this post, although the item was gifted. The above is my true and honest opinion.
You know I find inspiration everywhere don’t you? Even if that means on the red carpet at the Sydney, Australia premiere of Love and Other Drugs. Doesn’t Anne Hathaway, look stunning in this gold Oscar de la Renta mini? It’s from his Spring 2011 collection and if anyone can find me a plus sized knock off, I would love them FOREVER!
The Curves and Chaos 2010 Survey continues with part 4. This is a more in depth look at what us curvy shoppers think about the plus size fashion industry. I’d love to hear what you think about the results below.
In your honest opinion, name ONLY ONE clothing manufacturer that you think knows the plus-size woman’s body.
- Lane Bryant
- ASOS Curve
In your honest opinion, name ONLY ONE plus-size clothing manufacturer that you think needs improvement in their plus sizes.

- Forever 21
- Old Navy
If there was one thing you could recommend to clothing designers about plus-size clothing, what would it be?
“We want to stand out because of our vibrant personalities and confidence, not by wearing clothes that don’t follow the current trend. Plus-sized does not mean minus-style. A size 12 or 14 model who is 5″10 is not the average plus-sized woman; carry a broader range of petite.”
“Remember, just like regular sized women, not all plus-sized women are shaped the same way.”
“We love trendy clothing too and great fit! Some plus women have a SHAPE, we are CURVY. Please make more tops and dresses fitted slightly more in top area with more generous stretch to hip areas. WE NEED MORE AFFORDABLE VARIETY OF WIDE WIDTH SHOES. FULL FIGURE GALS LOVE TRENDS TOO!ALSO, USE MORE REAL PLUS SIZE GALS IN ADS!!!”
“We love fashion too, keep that in mind when you are trying to sell us ugly floral patterns and bedazzled crap. We want everything the skinny girls can wear but in OUR sizes, its that simple.”
“That plus size women have just as many shape variations as non plus size women and need a variety of choices too. So many times designers assume that plus size women carry weight in just the hips, or just the bust, etc. It varies.”
“Don’t be afraid to use a real plus size woman in the clothing ads or online shops. It is much more helpful for shoppers to actually see what a piece of fabric looks like when it hits a curve or even a roll and allows us to judge if it is in fact good for our own body type. This to me would be logical for both ends, as I will know it will look good and will order it, therefore lessening the amount of returns to your company. The world is ready to see big women, let them be seen!”
