Q. What does being a curvy model mean to you?
First let me say, I am truly honored to be apart of the curvy movement. Since I became a curvy model I have joined a sisterhood of women who are curvy and confident! Being a curvy model means a lot to me. I want women to know that it being beautiful isn’t a size that is printed on a tag inside your jeans. Beauty comes from within. There is a verse in the bible that says, “As a women thinketh so is she…” As a women thinketh? Wow! I model because I want women to know that being curvy IS beautiful and if I have to courage to model so can they. Its not about others thinking you are beautiful but, what you think of yourself. Its humbling when women write and tell me they’ve seen one of my layouts and were inspired to model. When I hear stories like that it makes me all the more proud of being a curvy model.
Q. What or whom inspires you the most?
The women in my family have inspired me the most. Being of African, Latin, French, and Indian decent I have grown up around women with curvaceous bodies who aren’t afraid to flaunt them. And its the women in my family that I think about when I’m doing a photo shoot or a runway show. And its them who I hold my head up high when I’m walking in a show. 🙂
Q. Where are your favorite places to shop?
My favorite places to shop are Forever 21, Torrid, American Rag, Curvy Girl Clothing, and several vintage stores around the LA area. I love to mix and match modern styles with vintage flares. It’s important that I have a style all of my own.
Q. What is your fashion weakness?
OMG! My fashion weakness are coats, jackets, purses, and shoes. With these items I can create any kind of style I want. When i go shopping I usually end up buying shoes and working from the ground up!
Q. What advice would you give to any new or aspiring “curvy” models?
My advice to the aspiring curvy model is don’t worry about the standards in the plus industry, there just standards! If you feel that you have what it takes to model and you are serious about modeling. Set the your own standard! Do your research and look to see what kind of pictures curvy models in the industry are shooting, find a good photographer, shoot, shoot, and then shoot some more, build your book and get yourself out there. You never know what may come of it!
