Blogalicious Weekend 2010

Blogalicious Weekend is in full effect here in Miami! Yes, I am at another blogging conference and I am already having a lot of fun and it’s only day 1! I am so very lucky to be here. I am sending out a tremendously huge Thank You to General Mills and Que Rica Vida for their generous sponsorship. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be here. I also want to encourage my Spanish speaking friends with an iPad to check out the Que Rica Vida app. There are tons of delicious recipes. Lane Bryant also gets a huge hug and thanks for sponsoring two of my outfits. You will definitely see pics of my outfits soon. I’m trying to figure out this iPad.

Last night a group of us bloggers were put up in a suite at the W Hotel on the beach. It was very trendy, yet chic! I didn’t want to leave. Now, we are attending all the sessions and panels here at the Ritz Carlton. An amazing day so far. Maybe I’ll get the chance to sneak in some shopping. I will def keep you all up to date. Hopefully, I can post some outfit pics later.

If you’re a blogger, I would really recommend attending these conferences if you can. It’s a great way to network and learn from these amazing bloggers. I wish you were all here to enjoy this.

Sending you hugs and kisses from South Beach!

Jean Paul Gaultier Adds Curves to the Catwalk

Jean Paul Gaultier paraded a few different shapes and sizes down his Paris Spring 2011 runway. Although there is a debate at the moment whether Crystal Renn should be considered plus size anymore, she did look stunning. Renn has walked for him before in a 2005 show and recently in his ads. The fabulous Beth Ditto and Marquita Pring rounded out the curves on the JPG rock n’ roll catwalk (no pun intended). You might recognize Pring from the V Magazine “Size Issue.” I think Gaultier is making an impression, but will other designers ever follow suit?

What do you think?

Splish Splash!

It’s finally raining in L.A.! Yay! I think I’m one of the few that actually love this kind of weather here in Southern California. I have this urge to go and jump in some puddles! But, I probably won’t without a proper pair of rain boots. Just take a look at some of the chic rain gear I found. Now, if you only I could find a decent plus size rain coat. Any tips?

Whitney Thompson wants Us to Speak Out!

My favorite America’s Next Top Model winner, Whitney Thompson was all smiles and motivation as she participated in the The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) 2nd Annual NYC NEDA Walk. With over 700 people in attendance, they raised approximately $140,000!!

Thompson, a NEDA Ambassador, addressed the crowd about body image before the walk began. “I want everyone to know that they don’t have to conform to the images they see in the media. Real beauty is something that cannot be found in a magazine or on TV,” said Thompson. “I encourage all of you to speak out, write letters and insist that these publications work harder to promote a positive body image.”

NEDA will also be hosting their annual conference on October 8-10 in New York City.

And don’t forget the amazing Whitney Thompson will also be hosting the Love Your Body Day in West Hollywood, California on October 22-24. I’ll be there!!

About NEDA: The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by eating disorders. We campaign for prevention, improved access to quality treatment, and increased research funding to better understand and treat eating disorders. We work with partners and volunteers to develop programs and tools to help everyone who seeks assistance.

Carmakoma’s “Carpe Diem” Collection

It’s all about the “Carpe diem” collection at carmakoma. Just take a peek at a few images from their fall/winter lookbook. Loving this collection.

I know this lookbook might be a little late, but hey better late then never…right?

According to the carmakoma web site “The woman in carmakoma’s new collection is ready to face the world. She welcomes any surprise the day might offer and does not hesitate to seize the moment and stand up for what she believes in.”

This Danish designer brand “emphasizes the characteristics and qualities of the confident woman in a novel, luxurious look.” I like the sound of that!

Marie Denee, The Curvy Fashionista, is also a member.

Today, the Two Point Oh LA Fall 2010 Lookbook was released. It’s a collection of fall looks like Bohemian Rhapsody, Coming Down with Mono, Flirting with the Fifties, Man I Feel Like a Woman and Nomadic Notions (the only plus size look).

I got these amazing faux leather boots at Torrid. Unfortunately, it’s been too hot to wear them. But, as soon as it cools down, you’ll see an outfit post. Promise!

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month & T-shirt Giveaway!

Wear your pink ribbons proud! October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it’s time to pay attention! Your breasts will thank you for it!

The truth is breast cancer affects all of us. No matter what your race is. Early detection and awareness is your best bet. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women. Breast cancer is the number one cause of cancer death in Hispanic women. It is the second most common cause of cancer death in white, black, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaska Native women. ”

The goal of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is “to promote breast cancer awareness, share information on the disease, and provide greater access to screening services.”

Unfortunately, most of us know someone who’s been affected by this horrible disease. My aunt lost her battle to breast cancer when I was 19-years-old, to this day I do monthly self-exams. I don’t want to become a statistic; I understand that early detection can be life saving. Make the pledge to save your own life and win a tee from Save the ta-tas®! See below!

With the help of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, I created an “Early Detection Plan.” It will remind me to do a breast self-exams, and attend my clinical breast exams and mammograms. I can be reminded via email, calendar, text messages, and RSS feeds. In this busy world, it is just this easy!

Here’s a chart from the National Breast Cancer Foundation on how to perform a breast self-exam.

Torrid and Save the ta-tas® have even come together to “help raise funds for cancer research while helping women laugh along the way and fight a serious disease.”

“The Save the Ta-tas Foundation and ta-tas® Brand was created by clothing designer Julia Fikse as a way to fight breast cancer using laughter and fun as a way to fight a serious disease. Her playful line of t-shirts and accessories include messages such as “save the ta-tas” and “friends don’t let friends lose ta-tas.”

This weekend, Thursday September 30th – Saturday October 2nd, each Torrid store will have a Breast Cancer Awareness event. You can contact your local Torrid for details.

They also have a special offer going on to help drive donations on September 30th – October 11th. If you donate $5 or more to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (through Torrid) you will get $15 off any pair of jeans! It’s called “Breast Cancer Can Kiss My Booty.” Love it!

And when you buy select Breast Cancer merchandise, 10% of that will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. You can even make a donation in any amount to NBCF the entire month of October at Torrid.

Take the pledge and win this Save the ta-tas® “Punk Tee”!
Courtesy of Save the ta-tas®.

All you have to do is leave a comment below, promising me you’ll honor those affected by breast cancer by pledging to perform monthly breast self-exams.

  • Make sure you leave a valid email or twitter i.d. This contest is open internationally. The winner will be chosen November 1st. using
GIVEAWAY CLOSED Review: The Sexy Halloween Costume

Although there’s a mini-heat wave hitting Los Angeles, I am still thinking of all things fall; and yes that includes Halloween. I love Halloween! Every year I try to be creative and dress up as something different, but as most of us curvy girls know, it’s hard to find a costume that truly fits and is sexy at the same time. Read more
